IPL 2021 is finally set to start today people. It's just been a couple of months since the last edition and I can still remember MI lifting the trophy vividly. My wild prediction is that SRH or RCB will lift the trophy this year.

As long as COVID-19 doesn't screw things up, this will probably be one of the most entertaining editions of the IPL so far.

I bet on MI in their opening encounter against RCB primarily due to their in-form players. Excited to watch Maxwell's performances in RCB. Am also curious about whether Arjun Tendulkar gets to play in the main squad or not.
But this time both team are playing away from their home ground so this could be more interesting to watch, Chennai pitch normally assist spin bowling but in the recent matches we had seen it as more flat pitch so we can assume that this match also can be played on such pitch. So the opening match will be a high scoring game in my opinion but RCB got got Chahal who can be more effective on such pitches while MI loaded with full of talents in their batting lineup.
Expecting competitive wicket (spin) for the 1st game, would be great if its average scoring game but if its road then 200+ score is on the cards for sure and both teams got some fine power hitters in the middle order (Pandaya, Pollard, AB, Maxwell). My money on RCB.

Must be a surprising prediction in my opinion; based on recent auction to add new foreign players, you predict like this? I do not have much knowledge on who are the highly talented players and which team they will be joining. My simple prediction for this 2021 edition is, MI is going to win to complete the first IPL hat-trick.

I bet on MI in their opening encounter against RCB primarily due to their in-form players.
Where you are betting? I checked where I usually do place bets (freebitco.in and sportsbet.io) but unable to find this IPL opening match; or am I missing something while filtering?

Yeah, high scoring fire works are on the cart; I am too curious on watch MI batting line to blast up one more time; they are marvelous to watch. I am sorry I expect Chahal may not produce any big impact against MI on Chennai pitch.

BCCI reported that everything is Normal in Wankhede stadium and the IPL is set to begin Tomorrow so there is no doubt that IPL will begin or not as owr the schedule and the first game is going to start at Chennai but it may end without any postpone?Huh....

Already multiple positive cases have been reported from inside the bubbles (and the IPL hasn't even started). Previously there was a suggestion to vaccinate the players and other staff before the tournament start, but that didn't went through after a lot of people opposed giving them the priority. I am quite skeptical about how things are going to turn out. Anyway, the first match is scheduled to take place in Chennai, and the situation seems to be under control there.

The list is incomplete, because the BCCI is trying its best to suppress the news about new positive results.
It seems that the situation is not that good and i had no idea that the players are testing positive left and right even before a single ball is bowled is a worrying situation as we might see more players testing positive and the BCCI will be forced to halt the entire tournament altogether just like PSL and if they have forced a lock down then how come players will get an exemption to travel during these restrictions.

^^^ Last time they conducted the tournament in the UAE and it was a grand success. The cities in UAE are not very crowded and therefore they were able to handle the COVID 19 situation in an effective way. But this time that is not going to be the case. They have opted for crowded cities such as Mumbai, and that too when the pandemic situation in India is at its peak. Yesterday there were 126,000 new cases, which is a new daily record ever since the pandemic started spreading in India.

IPL 2021 starts tomorrow, and fortunately the opening match is supposed to take place in Chennai. The situation in Mumbai is getting worse with every passing day, and I heard that Bangalore is also in very bad condition. BCCI should consider the possibility of scheduling the entire tournament in Chennai. The city has enough first-class cricket grounds to host all the games. If needed, some of the matches can be played at Hyderabad as well.

@Sithara007 as far as I know India on a whole is suffering massive covid outbreak suddenly, and it makes me wonder was IPL really necessary to be held in India in the current situation. Also what happens if the entire team suddenly gets covid how will IPL handle it, and to be honest I’m really excited and worried about how this tournament will start and end.

There is trouble even before the IPL is started. A COVID 19 positive case has been reported from the biosecure bubble of Mumbai Indians. Former Indian international Kiran More (who is currently part of the coaching staff for MI) has tested positive for COVID. I don't know how someone can have a positive test inside the bubble. Because individuals are placed inside the bubble after multiple negative tests.
Everyone will have to test the coronavirus again. If someone in the team is not positive, the team's matches will be postponed. In India, corona is now taking horrible forms. I think for Coronavirus some matches will be posponed. This season's IPL may not end on time.

Today there is another daily record, with more than 115,000 testing positive for the virus. In Mumbai alone more than 10,000 positive cases were reported today. In other metro cities also, the number of new cases are just exploding. More than 4,000 in Bangalore, while Delhi has reported 5,000 plus. I won't be that surprised, in case the IPL is postponed. The situation in India is really getting bad. Reminds me of the first wave that we had in September 2020 (even then, the daily numbers never crossed 100,000).

If the numbers continue to increase like this then I would think the IPL season will be postponed. Its going to be another year like last year in all sports until the vaccine roll out is spread far and wide around the world. Until then I think we'll see many sports delayed, even with these bubbles players are still catching the virus and officials so it might be best to postponed until its under control.
The incidence of coronavirus is increasing. Even though the Indian government has the vaccine, everyone needs to be aware of the coronavirus. And at the moment it seems that maybe the venue has to be changed, otherwise a lot of matches will be delayed due to the virus. And of course, like last year, everyone has to follow the rules of hygiene. There is no alternative.

Yeah its not looking good in India right now, it seems as though this is getting worse and spreading a lot faster then ever before and not only in India but also Brazil. Its a big concern not only for cricket matches to go ahead but for all of us because most thought that once the vaccines start to roll out that it would start to slow down the virus but with these new strains it could get way out of control. I really do believe that the best thing for the BCCI should postponed the tournament until this gets back under control but its highly unlikely.

Another player from RCB squad tested positive so who will join with Padikkal who already tested as positive so now most of the bio bubble burst means we are going to see what happened on PSL or BCCI is still strong that they can conduct all matches on time as per the schedule in India itself?

So many people testing positive despite the strict protocols. I really don't know whether the IPL can go ahead like this. There is a very good chance that it will get cancelled. Today we had another new daily record in India, with more than 120,000 positive cases. Mainstream media sites such as EspnCricinfo are trying their best to hide the news about positive results from the bubbles. But every day more and more people are testing positive from inside these bubble facilities.

Here is a partial list of players and staff who have tested positive so far:
1. Axar Patel
2. Devdutt Padikkal
3. Nitish Rana
4. Daniel Sams
5. Kiran More

The list is incomplete, because the BCCI is trying its best to suppress the news about new positive results.

Already there was some kind of restrictions there in Maharastra and Mumbai city but still BCCI can influence the state government, here is what BCCi said about lockdown in Mumbai : IPL matches in Mumbai to go ahead despite Maharashtra lockdown

So lockdown many not affect the matches in anyway but the issue is people inside the biobubble tested as positive which means the entire team needs to take the tests again to play the matches.

I really don't understand why these idiots are so adamant about conducting the matches in Mumbai. It is not like they don't have quality facilities in other cities such as Hyderabad. Mumbai and the neighboring cities are like epicenters of the second wave of CoVID in India. And we already have one positive result from the Mumbai Indians biosecure bubble (Kiran More), which confirms that their precautions are not enough to 100% guarantee the safety of the players.

They are not idiots they are basically helpless now. Every city is now slowly becoming a contaminant zone. For example, Raipur is under full lockdown from 9 to 19th of this month. Who thought Raipur will become an epic center. It is true Maharastra is contributing the most at the moment but other cities are not that far and by the end of April every city in India will be struggling with this pandemic.

There are rumors that lockdown will be reimposed in the state of Maharashtra. If that happens, there is no chance that the IPL matches will be allowed to take place in Mumbai. Even from the beginning I was saying that the decision to schedule some of the matches in Mumbai was a big blunder. I think BCCI still has enough time, to shift these matches to cities such as Chennai or Hyderabad, which are doing relatively better.

You are right, BCCI should change the venue of the match now. I saw some news, the second wave of coronavirus in the state of Maharashtra is appearing in terrible form. In this case, I am skeptical about whether the Maharashtra state government will allow IPL. And should the game be played in Mumbai with the high risk of coronavirus even if the state government will be allowed? Now is the right time to change the venues.

I do not think that the vaccines available right now will not make things better as there are new strains that are making it hard for everyone and there are multiple reports that some of these new strains has no affect to the vaccines. So it is not an easy route as we speak and i wont be surprised if we see the tournament postponed and as long as the players are in a bubble then they will be fine and the problem is that you never know when you are getting contracted Grin.
