This will become a regular occurrence in the future. T20 leagues are sprouting up all over the world. First we had the IPL, which blocked around 2 months of the international calendar every year. Then Australia came up with the BBL and the ECB created the Vitality Blast. Later, the WICB came up with the CPL, and the Bangladeshis came up with the BPL. South Africa and Pakistan followed with the MSL and PSL respectively. Even Hong Kong, Nepal, Afghanistan and Canada have their own T20 leagues now.
I feel like many cricketers retired from international cricket to prolong their career to play in these leagues world wide as they pay a much bigger pay scale and they gets more time to spend with their family, we cannot blame them for their choice in life, i felt if there was no league like these we would have seen players like AB de Villiers playing for their national team much longer.

It is beneficial for everyone. The T20 format brings in the crowd, the sponsors and the revenue (from sponsorship, as well as from the sale of the broadcasting and streaming rights). The matches last for 3 to 3.5 hours, which is more tolerable compared to 8-8.5 hours needed for an ODI match. Therefore it suit the fans as well.

That said, the retirement of AB de Villiers had nothing to do with the T20 leagues. He had a well publicized altercation with the management during the semi-final of the 2015 CWC and it was the main reason why he ended his career a few years back.

https://www.cricket.com.au/news/south-africa-mike-horn-world-cup-race-quota-vernon-philander-kyle-abbott/2015-04-16

Quote
Beaten at the semi-final stage by New Zealand in a thriller, controversy erupted after the team that beat Sri Lanka in the quarter-final stage was changed to include fast bowler Vernon Philander ahead of the in-form Kyle Abbott. Philander's selection raised the number of 'players of colour' – a term which encompasses black Africans, mixed-race people and those of Asian descent – to four, the same quota number that was previously implemented until it was abolished in 2007. A report in South Africa's Sunday Times the day after the World Cup final said Philander's selection came at the direction of the Cricket South Africa board

https://www.indiatoday.in/sports/cricket/story/ab-de-villiers-2015-world-cup-semifinal-defeat-autobiography-338539-2016-09-01

This is from his autobiography:

Quote
So what had happened? Had Vernon, who was officially classified as coloured, been selected ahead of Kyle, who was officially white, to ensure there were four players of colour in the semifinal? Or had the decision been made for purely cricketing reasons?

de Villiers was the captain back then, and this scandal had a very negative impact upon him.

Let's see how they do in the next match. This time I am going with Sri Lanka by the way unless I see any change in the squad.
Since you are predicting Sri Lanka to win this match i am going with Pakistan to win the third T20  Cheesy. I am expecting a change in the team for the third T20 and with the complete domination by Sri Lanka in the first two matches and the huge pressure from the Pakistan team management and the crowd will put pressure on the players to perform better in the third match and might win the third T20.
Most chances Pakistan will win third Twenty/20 because Sri Lanka is already in driving seat and now they will try to bring some player those was not in first 2 matches they already safe so third Twenty/20 is not important for them and Pakistan is also going to try something new as they are badly down and out under new management.

He's Chief Selector and Coach so he's the only reason Akmal and Shahjad are in the squad. i don't follow PCL so not sure if both of them are top performer or not.

If my memory serves me well... They both got some runs on their back in PSL. That could explain their selection but oh boy Pakistan got thrashed in the T20s, that too by an 8th ranked team Grin . No wonder why 'Unpredictable' word suits them soo much.

Quote
"It's unfortunate in our circuit, there is no other batsman in T20s who had performed better than them. Players who have performed in domestic surely deserve a chance, and that's why we offered them.

I call this BS. There weren't any runner ups to these 'old' farts? If that was the case why not just shut down the PSL as it is clearly not serving its purpose of 'Grooming' new talent. I love it when people Fuck up and don't want to take the blame. Misbah Fucked up with that selection and he needs to eat all the criticism he gets... smdh.

Quote
"Losing is never good, especially against a team that is without their major players, and it's an eye-opener," Misbah said. "We can see deficiencies in every department: bowling, batting and particularly the way we got out against spin, and also our death bowling.

"There was a clear difference between the two teams. Despite being inexperienced, they were disciplined and did everything right, while we completely failed to implement our plan
."

That's What Misbah has to say about Akmal and Ahmed Shahzad's selection. surprise to see this statement coming from the Selector who happen to be a head coach too. don't know what message they are sending to young cricketers.

Let's hope both senior players justify their place in the squad with contribution.

Quote
"Both these players have performed well wherever they've played in the last one year. Ahmed's performance in PSL was remarkable enough for a chance, while Umar, whichever format he played, was among the good ones,"he said. "It's unfortunate in our circuit, there is no other batsman in T20s who had performed better than them. Players who have performed in domestic surely deserve a chance, and that's why we offered them.

"If they weren't able to perform what can be done? Obviously I am answerable, but to build up a team you need to do some experiments to get the answers. When you play someone in international cricket with a couple of games, you understand the utility of a player. We need to show some patience and wait for the next series to find answers."

IMO, changing (T20) captain at this stage will only further ruin the overall team performance. Sarfaraz has been one of the most successful T20 captains for the last few years, and we've got a T20 World Cup coming up next year. I believe that Misbah's decision of selecting Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shahzad (along with Faheem Ashraf) is the core reason for this series failure. Moreover, I've noticed that the presence of Umar Akmal not only damages the team by his own pathetic performance but also damages the team by completely evolving the behavior of Babar Azam (maybe because these two are cousins?). Roll Eyes

Still they need to make some big changes if they need to perform better in coming tournaments.

BTW, it is surprising that West Indies is ranked so low, despite the fact that they have some of the best T20 players in the world.
West Indies have players who performs well in domestic T20 leagues and they have a star studded power hitters and can fit into any team but the problem is that they never performed as a team and majority of these star players will not be available for selection West Indies if they are engaged in a T20 league.
In short these players give more importance to the high paying T20 leagues than their national team.
I don't blame them for same. Their national board is full of political interferences. In general i do recommend a person who plays for his National and gives preference on his National duty than playing in t20 leagues. But west Indian scenario is all together different. Their board actually is not one country but cumulation of many small countries so their board suffers political conflicts player too are refrained from playing domestic leagues despite of no international fixtures. Moreover the major issue is very less monetary recognition to players. Also they aren't respected that much. All this has really turned players against the board. Board too out of arrogance has ruined the whole cricket future there.

Good choice, the odds for SL winning the final T20 is still good even though they don't give 5x or 6x now. But I'm planning to bet on Pak if they bat first and if any site gave a 2xodds. As of now, the odds are less than 1.5  Undecided

With T20 only if the opening order give a  good start the end will be successful, because each runs missed will increase the run requirement per over. This will create pressure for the last order batsmen. This can be fulfilled only if the scoring is done above the requirement by the opening order players.

Not in T20 format but all sorts of formats. Opening partnership and middle order needs to perform if a team wants to win a match.

~Edited Cute Image~

We have seen enough of him in WC and now here in T20.  Need a new Captain now.
I doubt that if anyone else is ready for captaincy.

Well.. this is true. And this issue is not just affecting West Indies, but also many of the teams such as South Africa and New Zealand as well. During the India vs West Indies series, Sunil Narine, Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard were unavailable for most of the matches due to their commitments with the GT20 league. You can't blame them, as cricket is a career option after all and they need to take care of their finances.

Somehow Sri Lanka has won the T20 series which none could've expected because of ODI series winning by Pakistan as well as Pakistan sitting on the top of the Men's T20 table.
It was not a lucky coincidence that Srilanka won both the matches, they trashed Pakistan in both the matches and the star of the series is Umar Akmal with two golden ducks  Cheesy.
Nuwan Pradeep bowled really well in both the matches and he made all the difference by picking early wickets after Srilanka posted a good score, so it was a complete dominance from Srilanka.

Pakistan is still on top of the table, with 283 points. And even better, they have a good difference when compared to the second ranked side (England at 266 point). Their no.1 slot is safe even of they fail in the next 3-4 matches. What's more interesting is the fact that Sri Lanka still trails Afghanistan (229 vs 235). The two consecutive victories have helped them to overtake West Indies, who are now pushed down to no.9.

But these rankings are of little use now. The qualification process for the 2020 T20 World Cup considers ranking on January 1, 2019. At that time, Sri Lanka were ranked no.10 and West Indies were at no.9. And this means that these two teams will not get direct entry to Super 12 Round, while Afghanistan will qualify for that (as a result of their higher ranking).

BTW, it is surprising that West Indies is ranked so low, despite the fact that they have some of the best T20 players in the world.

why PCB went back to old players when their previous T-20 squad was winning the games for them?
Of-course this is PCB :-P

We will see.

I mean I am seriously disappointed and frustrated with the performance. First one I thought was an accident but this one! No doubt that there are no accident. The team is not what we thought.

In this match seven players have scored a single digit while Amir was on the pitch with five runs. If this is the case how it is possible to chase 182 which is a good score in T20. With T20 only if the opening order give a  good start the end will be successful, because each runs missed will increase the run requirement per over. Bhanuka Rajapaksa's batting helped Sri-Lanka to get a fighting score. On the other hand, Wanindu Hasaranga comes to ball and He took three wickets in one over and make a surprise for all. Nuwan Pradeep also balled very well. Overall, it is a great win for Sri-Lanka against Pakistan today, even as well as the series too for the first time. Congratulations to Sri-Lanka.
