Well Afghanistan's Test performance is not that bad at all. Recently the won against Bangladesh: https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/19449/game/1197138/bangladesh-vs-afghanistan-only-test-afg-in-bangladesh-2019

Some may say that Bangladesh is not very good at test but record book is not going to count like that. The record book will say Afghanistan won.

Test Cricket requires a lot of patience and calm head which I think is a bit lacking in this young Afghanistan team as of now and this is pretty natural as they haven't been playing a lot of first class cricket at this level.

The Afghan players don't play the 4-day format very often. A large number of them have signed for various T20 leagues around the world (such as GT20, CPL, BPL, BBL.etc), and most of the time they will be concentrating on that format. They have a 4-day domestic tournament (2019 Ahmad Shah Abdali Cup), but I don't think that their top players have enough spare time to take part.

Nepal has a small chance of defeating teams such as Bangladesh and Zimbabwe (in T20s). But I don't think that they'll be able to beat Afghanistan. The Afghans are a level higher up, when compared to the other teams mentioned here. And unfortunately Nepal will not be a part of the 2020 ICC T20 World Cup, as they failed to qualify (lost to Singapore in the Asian qualifiers).
I think your post is baseless, how do you think Afghan is up and Nepal will not be able to beat them? Nepal will be able to beat Zimbabwe, for your info Zimbabwe beat Afghan some days ago, you think it as a rare case? Well, in that case, Afghan beat Bangladesh is also the same. Bangladesh also beat Afghan in the 2nd match.

According to the ICC T20 rankings, Afghanistan is among the top-8 T20 sides (they are currently ranked #7), and therefore they qualify for a direct slot to the T20 world cup. They don't need to play the qualifier tournament. On the other hand, Bangladesh is ranked 10th and Zimbabwe is at the 14th position. They don't get a direct entry to the world cup. The ranking suggests that Afghanistan is a far better side when compared to both these teams, at least as far as the T20 format is considered. And Nepal is currently ranked 11th, just below Bangladesh, but above Zimbabwe. Also, Zimbabwe is unable to field its star players such as Kyle Jarvis and Brendan Taylor, as they don't have enough funds after their termination from the ICC.
I think Zimbawe's main problem is the intervention of their politics in cricket which is making them a bad team despite of having some good players. Afghanistan on the other hand has some great bowling attack which has helped them climbed upto spot 7. Bangladesh due to their overconfidence are moving down the road.
Any team can be beaten if there is an extra ordinary performance and it is rare we see those often.
It will be rarely happened which was the case in the last series, however, Afghan played well, it can no be denied. They have developed a lot since the previous. But still they are not as strong team as Bangladesh, I think. We were unfortunate that we lost the test.

Most of the small teams are making themselves strong with the performance. Years back these teams weren't known to the world, now they've secured their places firmly. There is nothing as this team can't defeat the other, it is all about the performance by that time. Another thing even if a single player makes a massive performance it could change the entire match.

Among those teams mentioned, Zimbabwe is the one that was in the lead during the early days of cricket. Later when few popular faces got retired the team started to fall off. Now it is the time for them to rebuild as more small teams were giving hard competence.

The possibility of Nepal beating Zimbabwe are slim as Zimbabwe players have played against top countries and i have not seen Nepal playing any top teams, if a player comes up with an outstanding performance then any team can be defeated even top teams and we have seen many upsets in the past, Ireland defeating England chasing 300 plus was one such case a long time back and they were not able to continue that performance consistently. Any team can be beaten if there is an extra ordinary performance and it is rare we see those often.

There is a T20 tri-series ongoing in Singapore, in which Zimbabwe and Nepal are participating in addition to the hosts. In the first T20 match today, Zimbabwe defeated Nepal by 5 wickets.
Do we have a betting line for these games, have not seen any matches of Nepal but i can guess there is no way they are going to defeat Zimbabwe as they can even pose a challenge to teams like Afghanistan and Bangladesh even though they are weak in terms of the giants in the cricketing world. I am waiting for their next match to wage a bet to try my luck Smiley.

Nepal had a great opportunity to upset the Africans, and had them at 4/37. But as usual with the smaller teams, they allowed the Zimbabweans to rebuild the innings. For Nepal, Sandeep Lamichhane took 3/15. Tomorrow Singapore is playing against Nepal.

Also they have only one big player in the team who is Rashid khan. If you remove him out of the team, the team is just ordinary which have no chance to win even against small teams. They should make themselves better before thinking of playing more series with better teams. Think of the Srilanka team in 1996 which had so many good players that they even won the world cup.

It is true that Rashid Khan is a good player but there is some good player besides Rashid in the Afghan team. Such as Hazratullah Zazai, Mohammad Nabi, and some new spinners. If you notice the last BPL series then you will find that Hazratullah Zazai played very well and the Mohammad Nabi also played IPL as an all-rounder.

Right! I'm totally agree with you here. There have some good players in Afghanistan team who has a bright career. I would like to input the name of Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb. Both of them are world class spin blower and batsman @Mohammad Nabi.

Afghanistan are not only dependent on Rashid anymore, as you’ll have correctly mentioned other players have also developed to make their team stronger. I feel they should play more international tournaments as that will give them valuable experience, which will further help them defeat big teams in the future.

Yes now their are some new players which has emerged and helping the team not to just be depended on Rashid Khan . In a way it is good if considered from the team’s point of view .  Last years IPL it was Rashid Khan performance which helped the team to come so ahead in the tournament .

I always thought he is older LOL
Yeah, Afghanistan team is very young and they need exposure. Whenever they get it they need to use it to prove themselves. In the next 5 to 10 years we may see a totally different Afghanistan who will regularly give fight and win against current A graded teams like Australia, England and India.

These players are relatively lucky... A decade ago, they would have never got any chance to compete against the players from test nations. But the emergence of T20 leagues have given many of these little known players this opportunity. Large number of Afghan players are active in leagues such as CPL, BBL, BPL and Global T20. Even players from Nepal, Hong Kong, Namibia, Canada and USA are playing in these leagues. Unfortunately the Euro T20 Slam was cancelled this year. Else many more players would have got a chance.

There are also some names apart from Rashid Khan which makes a difference from ordinary teams like Zazai, Najibullah Zadran , Noor Ali Zadran. Even the young player Zahir Khan is starting to show some signs of becoming good player. I don't think Afghanistan is different just because of one player. They all in whole are capable of defeating big teams.

Things are just getting started for them. Just wait for them to make a mark.

The name of the Indian bowler is Zaheer Khan. On the other hand, Zahir Khan is a 20-year old spinner from Afghanistan who has represented the Jamaica Tallawahs during the 2019 season of the Caribbean Premier League. Prior to this, he took part in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Okay when I was reading about Zahir Khan I had Zaheer Khan in mind. I saw his era and a fan of his performance.

About this Zahir Khan, this is the first time I actually noticed his name and talk about him. Seems like he made good name for himself.

~snip~

But just check the age of their star players. Don't forget that Rashid is just 21 years old. Most of the team is composed of teenagers and those in their early 20s. They have a very bright future ahead.

I can't agree with your views. They are not overly dependent on Rashid Khan. His performance during the recently concluded tri series in Bangladesh was brilliant, but that doesn't mean that the other players didn't played well. Afghanistan is a well balanced team and especially in the spin department they have plenty of options. Mujeeb Ur Rahman Zadran is just 18 years old, but he has emerged as a world class spinner capable of troubling the best batsmen in the world.

The only department where they seems to be struggling is with the middle order and lower middle order batting. In many of the matches, their openers (Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz) were able to give them good starts, but the middle order collapsed and in the end they lost the matches due to it. This is an area where they need reinforcement.

But just check the age of their star players. Don't forget that Rashid is just 21 years old. Most of the team is composed of teenagers and those in their early 20s. They have a very bright future ahead.

There has been some ban on the Afghanistan team by  a terrorists group named "Taliban". Once they lifted the ban, their national team was formed in 2001. They got their test status in June 2017. The team only became famous in the recent world cup and mainly because of the performance of Rashid Khan. Afghanistan cricket journey is very new and they have talent to become one of the best team as the time progresses.
