I am all in for this T-20 league initiative and might invest my time on it only because of old era legends but my fear is what if some players get out of their breathe in the middle of the game
It will be fun if players get tired and exhausted and i would like to see how Inzamam-ul-Haq would have played now  Cheesy

I would like to know when is the tournament starting and whether any sports book will be taking these bets.
The tournament is scheduled next year from February 2 to 16 and it features six teams.
India Legends, Australia Legends, South Africa Legends, Sri Lanka Legends and West Indies Legends.

I am waiting to see the match and i am sure it will be fun and will watch one match live in the stadium Smiley.

I don’t know how I missed this news but I’m very excited for this tournament to begin, and I don’t think these players will find it difficult to play as they’ll begin training well in advance for it. There’re so many exciting duels to watch out for like Bret Lee vs Tendulkar, Muralidharan vs Lara this will be a super hit tournament. @eaLiTy indeed you’ll enjoy a lot if you’ll be able to go, anyone else from here planning to go?.

I am all in for this T-20 league initiative and might invest my time on it only because of old era legends but my fear is what if some players get out of their breathe in the middle of the game  Grin few players might face difficulty during the game except kallis, Rhodes, Zaheer, Nehra, Clark, Sachin, Bond, Ponting, Sangakara etc.
These players are physically fit even now, how about players like Matthew Hayden, Gilchrist will they be playing in this tournament, how to know the list of players playing in this tournament. If ABD will be playing in this tournament he will single - handedly win all the matches as he is still the best player in the world and in top form even now Cheesy. I would like to know when is the tournament starting and whether any sports book will be taking these bets.

I would personally watch such matches since I am a fan of these legends. Old is gold buddy. There aren't many popular tournaments starting soon anyway(Based on what I know) which is why this will serve as a good dose of entertainment.
It will be a real entertainment to watch these players playing once again,

In two other ongoing matches, Netherlands made 166/4 against Kenya and Hong Kong made 153/5 against Ireland. I expect the European teams to win, but nothing is certain now. The gap between the teams have got very narrow.
Even i have the same opinion, Netherlands will win the match and in the other match i am expecting Ireland to win. Usually it is hard to predict T20 matches and i am expecting for another prediction pool.

The top 6 teams from this tournament will qualify to the first phase of the 2020 T20 world cup (where they will be joined by the two lowest ranking test nations - Sri Lanka and Bangladesh).
If i understand correctly Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are already qualified for the tournament and top 6 teams in the qualifier will have the opportunity to enter the world cup.

The ICC Men's T20 World Cup Qualifier is currently underway at the United Arab Emirates and we had a major upset with the very first match itself. Singapore defeated Scotland (one of the tournament favorites) by 2 runs today. In reply to the Singapore total of 168/6, Scotland could only manage 166/9 in 20 overs. Scotland was expected to top Group A and now that looks uncertain.

You are missing the point. It is quite obvious that they will never perform like how they performed in their prime, but the priority here is fun and entertainment and helping raise donations which is a great goal.
I think you misunderstood what i meant and you are missing a vital point from what i said, we think the same about retired players as they might not perform the same like they used to in the past because of age and with age reflex will not be that great but since the tournament is for retired cricketers there will be an entertaining aspect and i will be watching the highlights and if i find it interesting i might be watching from the next match onwards as i cannot spare a long time watching sports all day long. So this tournament is for charity purpose if so it is a great goal and i had no idea about it, i was thinking about commercializing cricket to the maximum even with tournaments with retired cricketers.

Earlier, it was not hard for people to take one or two days off from work and go to the stadiums to watch the test matches. Because it used to be played once in a while. But now many of the cricketers are seen in action round the clock, either in the international cricket or in T20 leagues. I am not saying that it is a bad thing. It has definitely helped the revenues and popularity of the game. All I am saying is that times have changed and the ICC should not push the test format on the throats of the cricket fans.
Time is an issue now and the frequency of the matches are also a major factor for the declining viewership for Test matches but even still Ashes series does have a major audience draw may be because of the history between the teams and the competitiveness and i have no doubt any India Pakistan Test matches can gain massive support and audience because of the fierce rivalry, there was a time when majority of the matches end up in a draw and that is also a reason for the decline in viewership but now we are seeing results in the matches which is a good start.   .

Sehwag and Sachin were great players in the past and age is a real thing and i do not see them perform on that level but since this tournament is for retired players i would watch the match highlights.

"Retired" no longer means retired. Playing one or two exhibition matches every two or three years is OK. But here they are planning a whole series that is going to stretch for a few weeks. Looks like the financial glitter of the T20 game proved too hard to resist for many of these oldies. Now I don't know who is going to watch these 50-year olds playing cricket.

What is wrong if some old players want to play cricket and if there is an audience and sponsorship then i do not see anything bad in it, cricket was their profession and if they can play again after their retirement from top level international cricket and if they are healthy let them play the game rather than sitting around and spoiling their health doing nothing. If there are no audience for the tournament and no financial gains then they might not continue this as a huge tournament, it is as simple as that.

Come on, it's certain that there will be no huge people to watch this, but you know millions of people are fan of Sachin, Sehwag. They will certainly watch.
It will not be much amazing matches but it will get more pleasure to their fan.

Why do you think that shorter formats are bad for Cricket? Majority of the sports in this world that are really popular are short format games(Soccer etc). T-20 cricket breathed new life into the sport and majority including me absolutely love it.

Test matches are entertaining in their own way, but majority will always prefer shorter format games in comparison due to the time involved, entertainment factor etc. Most of these T-20 tournaments like IPL etc pay more than regular tournaments for these reasons primarily.

During the 80s and the 90s, there were only 8-9 teams playing international cricket and the national teams were only playing around 15-20 ODIs and less than 10 tests every year. But now every we are having international matches, and on top of that we have the numerous T20 leagues such as the IPL, BBL, and even the CPL from West Indies.

Earlier, it was not hard for people to take one or two days off from work and go to the stadiums to watch the test matches. Because it used to be played once in a while. Big fan of the Sehwag, Sachin Indian team. Great to see them back to the ground once again for showing how great they were. It will be a blessing for the new generation to see them playing.

Edit : About 100 ball Cricket
I don't welcome short format matches, it will certainly destroy the real cricket aka test format. ICC is now running test championship to encourage test format.
Come on these are retired players coming back to play cricket and they were not doing anything for a long time and 100 ball game is a fair game for retired players. Time is a factor in a competitive world and people does not have the time to spend so much time to watch a sport and hence short formats are necessary to keep the fans.

Any former Pakistani players included in this tournament ?
Since this tournament will happen in India, that's why i am asking this question ?
Unfortunately no Retired cricketer from England, Pakistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand or Zimbabwe. Participants cricketers are from 5 test playing nations. India, South Africa, Australia, Sri Lanka and West Indies.

Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Muttiah Muralitharan set to feature in new T20 tournament

Now we are going to see all (5 Test playing nations) retired players in T-20 tournament, Which is schedule in India next year. Road Safety World Series. So far 110 retired players confirmed their participation, my guess is financial setup-auction rituals are similar to IPL if there are any.

The Hundred: Chris Gayle, Steve Smith and David Warner among top-priced players for draft

100 Ball Cricket, I am excited for this one!

Well i am Test cricket Fan as well and i prefer Test cricket over shorter Format any day. @Haunebu and @bryant.coleman already pointed out good points in favor of shorter format and we have to be realistic with the ground realities, we can't deny the fact that majority loves or prefer Shorter format and then there is a financial aspect. the more money any Board or ICC have in their piggy banks, then they can give extra boost to Test Format.

When compared to T20 and ODI matches, relatively few people watch the test matches. They are no longer suitable, as people don't have free time to watch matches that can stretch for up to 40 hours. Even T20 matches are a bit too long, when compared to football or volleyball matches. The ICC can try their best, but they will find support for test matches only in the most hardcore regions (India, parts of England.etc).

Now coming to the new format launched by the ECB, I think that there is not much difference between it and the T20 format (100 balls vs 120 balls). I would still go with the T10 format, which was invented by some of the Pakistani expats in Abu Dhabi. An average T10 match is almost having the same duration as that of a NBA or EPL match.
