Ambani the mota bhai must be loving all the action. Last night 2.1 crore live viewers were tuned in on the JIO app, the highest in this season. Paisa hi Paisa meme for Mota bhai.
The craze for IPL only increasing day by day. JIO is making a killing despite making IPL free to watch. Tickets are not available easily, lower tier tickets (700 INR) are going in the black market for over 5k INR, and so on.
Ambani will end up making profits even if the matches are telecasted for free. They have the digital rights from 2023 to 2027, and the Indian OTT market is growing at close to 15% per year. And there is no guarantee that Jio Cinema will continue with its free subscription plan for the next few years. If everything goes well, then they may introduce a subscription fee of ₹999 or ₹1,999 per annum, which will net them thousands of crores in revenue every year. My only concern is about the monopoly that is being enjoyed by Jio.
I remember those days when folks like us used to pay 250rs for 1 GB of data for mobile.
I'll give you my personal example. I've already mentioned a few times that i personally use an enormous amount of data per month. Ironically today i had to cut my internet line due to the construction work on my property and construction activities would go on for a couple of more days and I wanted connectivity immediately due to some work so i quickly recharged my JIO number ( mind you recharging my number after 3-4 years gap) and it cost me only 219 rs for 3 GB Per day for 14 days.
If consumers are getting benefits then these sorts of competitions are welcomed, other parties should up their game and compete with the jio. I noticed Mittal's recent bitching on Ambani's strategy, tbh former was the main beneficiary of high data price and that monopoly was destroyed by the latter.
