Cons: EU based, no US assembly available. Extremely long turnaround (send the chips in, wait for assembly, wait for the arrival, what it unit comes damaged, etc?)
Pros: Very reliable miner.
Bro,
Are you talking about amt Grin

2good nice review as always Wink
Thanks
I'm talking about technobit. They produce very reliable miners, but there is always room for what if situation.

Nice review, happy to see it coming with the Sunon 2000rpm fan.

I've had both 2000rpm and 4500rpm fans on my Hex16B's and the noise on the 4500rpm one in unbearable and complete overkill for cooling.

Bitfury are the best chips, just a shame they didn't go to 40nm. Kinda lost most of it's competitive edge over Avalon.

I'd be interested in longer boards with more chips on and PCI-E power. I've yet to find anyone who sells packs of molex cables for modular PSUs.

Since i lived in indonesia, then if the unit DOA, i will just cry & cry LOL.
No chance for RMA since the shipping cost is very expensive, 150EUR.

But all of my 3 order(HEX16A, HEX16C, HEX8) is well package & they work just fine.

Nice review. With all of the BS going on in marto's announcement thread, I was wondering whether pre-ordering my one was a good idea. It was. It was dispatched on the 8th April and I had it on the 10th. Brilliant.

I am getting 60Gh/s out of mine consistently with it hooked up to the TPLink MR2030 running the 0.3.1 firmware. Just note that the default core mV on the TPLink is set at 900 for the HEX16B series, to get the 60 GH/s it will need to be set to 1000mV.

Now I just need to shove it into a case with a PSU so I can leave it on for more than 15 hours a day (it is currently siphoning power from my noisy as hell gaming pc, and sleep is impossible, think thats my easter weekend project)

Like the NanoFury I purchased previously from Technobit, I am impressed. It performs, was reasonably priced, was well packaged, and arrived speedily. 5 out of 5.

And yes, I know that sounded like ebay feedback Tongue

The Bulgarian company Technobit is producing bitcoin miners for 8 months now and for that time they delivered a lot of products, IMO the best one of them till now was the BitFury Based HEX16B So I'm anxious to see if it's successor is as good as the first version, this mainly depends on the BitFury chip itself.

Here is it, the updated HEX16B miner from Technobit. The miner looks identical with the previous version, no surprise here.

Performance:
At the Technobit's site the board is listed by the name HEX16B, but I nicknamed this one as HEX16B2 since it's using the new BitFury rev.2 chips. Revision 1 chip has 756 cores, while rev.2 chip has 864 rolled hash cores and improved performance and lower power consumption. This means that we should expect around 14% higher hashrate for almost the same consumption.

The first version of the board is hashing with 44Gh here we get almost 62, so we have around 40% better results in terms of hashrate but this is with higher settings. If we throw the same 540/900 setting at the new version the hashrate is 53GH or 20% improvement - not bad at all, good job BitFury

Here is a chart with various settings tested, together with the power drawn by the board.

As seen form the chart the efficiency is very good for a 55nm chip, even slightly better than the HEX8A1 Coincraft boards. These results suggest a longer use of the unit with the continuous difficulty increase.

Cooling:
The fan is the same 3000rpm Sunon:
Sunon EE92251S1-0000-A99
Dimensions:    92x92x25 mm
Power: 2.0 W
Speed: 3000 rpm
Air Flow: 51.5 CFM
Noise: 34 dB

It is silent enough, but if you plan to change it the Arctic Cooling F9 I would recommend lower settings for example 550/920 - summer is coming Wink

Pricing:
As always investment in bitcoin equipment is risky. With the latest bad news in the Bitcoin world the BTC price is relatively low, which makes buying a new mining equipment even riskier. but let's see what can you order/buy from various mining manufactures. Techobit are selling the device for 159 Euros and shipping within 48h

Once again the Ants are the best in term of price per GH, but the HEX16B2 is very close and with better efficiency.

Software:
Finaly there is a Windows version of cgminer that supports the HEX boards, more info how to run it here: CGMINER Windows build for TECHNOBIT's Boards
You can still use Technobit's special HEXMiner, the driver is in the inf folder. The setup is similar to HEX16A so you can check nemercry's video tutorial for Windows.

As with the previous HEX board I highly recommend that you get one cheap TP-Link TL-MR3020 and flash it with the firmware from Technobit's website. You can also order it directly from them at slightly higher price, but pre-flashed and ready to rock. Of course if you have a linux host it will best to just compile cgminer with the latest patch from Technobit or download my 0.2.2 build for Ubuntu x64 cgminer4_0.2.2

Here is how to compile the 0.2.2 version of the patch
Code:
git clone https://github.com/ckolivas/cgminer.git
cd cgminer
wget https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8082585/cg/2786526d9f1acb7bd903ece3c822c2c9203aa0b7.patch
git checkout 2786526d9f1acb7bd903ece3c822c2c9203aa0b7
patch -p1 < 2786526d9f1acb7bd903ece3c822c2c9203aa0b7.patch
./autogen.sh --enable-hexminerb
make

Start cgminer with the following line:
Code:
sudo ./cgminer -c ./cgminer.conf
where cgminer.conf is in the same folder and with your regular settings.

Pros:
  • EU Based
  • Good Efficiency
  • Availability
  • Software voltage control

Cons:
  • No thermal sensor
  • Only 60Gh per device

Conclusion:
This is a great successor of the board, the efficiency of the is competitive, and with the low price for the device itself this is a perfect choice for newcomers and testers not willing to risk thousands of euros for a pre order. Looking forward to test the new Avalon 3 based board from Technobit
