It is not about Coric in general, but about the idea that some lower level tennis players now have the chance to actually play for the title, and everybody knows that if the the best of the best would have been around, they wouldn't have had a chance. Even as someone who is watching the sport, it feels not right. I would prefer to see Alcaraz get beaten by a real opponent, not by a weak player like Zverev.

Rune is definitely the real deal, I would like to see him play Djokovic in a GS and over five
sets, Maybe we will see it at RG this year?

So first semi final qualifiers is Rune v Ruud, thats a very interesting match up which
could go either way also.

The second semi final on paper should be Medvedev v Tsitsipas but both Hanfmann
and Coric are having a great tournament so far.

Well its not the first time that Rune beat Djokovic this year Roll Eyes so its not a surprise at all. Of course its something disappointing see the first player of the seed going out but ...Its a sport and everything can happens.

Wheather in Roma is a kind of disaster during these days. Its really fare away from a classic Italian May.
It can be considered as the real protagonista of these days and a serious issue for all planned matches.

Rune seems to be a real deal. Has beaten Djoker twice now. Even though, I would say that Djoker hasn't looked 100% in the last few weeks but is still a top level athlete even when not 100% fit. Hope to see Djoker fit for the French open. speaking of the French, Nadal will have a press conference tomorrow to discuss about the upcoming Grand Slam. Casper Ruud finally doing decent on a tournament above 250. He beat Cerundolo in straight sets. Cerundolo had gotten the better of Ruud in Barcelona, earlier this year.

Casper Ruud - Francisco Cerundolo

I'm watching the game right now, well at least I'm watching it while I make time to watch the European champions league game, but it's been really annoying to watch because my internet is suddenly slow when I watch this game, sometimes the player catches on ball and when he goes to hit it with the racket the game crashes because the internet is slow, when he picks up the ball it's already on the opponent's side, then it works fine for a while, and when I think that finally I won't have any problems, it crashes again, but anyway I'm watching anyway and so far I see that the game is very balanced, Ruud will have problems in this game

Francisco Cerundolo who is surprising to a certain extent, he occupies position number 30, he beat all his opponents in this tournament, with Jannik Sinner in the list of players he defeated, the most surprising is that Cerundolo is at a disadvantage but then manages to to recover and win the game, I think that this is without a doubt a fact that Ruud has to take into account in order not to be another player who will lose to Cerundolo, we will see that he will come out victorious in this game, I still think that Ruud has greater chances of winning this game

Rune taking first set against Novak but it is looking like a different story in the second set being down 4-5 but it has been delayed now.
Italy is having very difficult conditions for these players during the week.
I remember having a bet on Zverev and Tsitsipas but both were called off for the evening and had to be resumed the next day.

Rune actually ended up winning against Novak Djokovic. It was a little surprising to me. I thought Djokovic is going to go a long way in this tournament. Now I wonder how the tournament is going to look from now on. Rune is the first one to qualify to the semi finals of this competition. Medvedev and Tsitsipas should be able to qualify as well for the semi-finals

In the women's singles two have moved to the semifinals, Kudemtrova and Kalinina. Two more quarter finals left in which one is being played between Swiatek and Rybakina and the other is between Badosa and Ostapenko. In the Miami and Indiana Wells open Rybakina reached the finals and unable to lift the trophy. Swiatek on the other side won the Stuttgart Open and these two played in the semifinals of Indiana Wells and Rybakina won 6-2 6-2. This interests me on the upcoming match between the two as it looks promising year for both.

They also met in the round of 16 at AO and Rybakina won that one 6:4, 6:4. Last time it got ugly for Swiatek as she looked completely helpless against Elena in Indian Wells. But today is an opportunity to turn the tide for Iga.

This match is going to 3 sets, it really could go either way, I recon the winner of this
will take the overall title or possibly Ruud depending on either Djokovic or Rune winning
Rune had won the first set 6-2 and Djokovic leads the second set 5-4. By the time match have been suspended due to heavy rain. It looks like Djokovic have brought the set into his control. He started to play freely. As the match got suspended we can't be sure of the winner. Someone could be lucky, most of the time winning prediction have favoured the underdog in such situation of match rescheduling.

Yeah, I was watching that match last year with Zverev taking that injury. It was a very bad one since he was crying out in pain due to his ankle getting rolled.
Think it took him months to recover from that one.

I really hope it's so. It was very fun to watch the Hungarian torture Carlitos with those dropshots... Grin

Medvedev v Zverev was a classy match. Medvedev pissed off the Italian crowd once again but somehow managed to defeat Zverev in straight sets. It looks like the German experiences some psychological issues, like a barrier which cannot be overcome at the moment.

Anyway, in WTA we're bound to see a very exciting quarterfinal Swiatek v Rybakina. Taking into account this is the 3rd or 4th time these ladies are meeting this year and Rybakina won all previous encounters we are about to witness a real thriller. Badosa - Ostapenko is also going to be big. No bets this time as these ladies (Badosa and Ostapenko) can be extremely unpredictable.

Marozsan beating Alcaraz was refreshing, but I feared that he indeed would not be able to keep up that level in the next game. There are those days when even weaker tennis players hit every single ball such that the stars have to shake their heads because they can't defend against someone way down the ATP ranking. It happens sometimes, but now the streak came to an end for Marozsan. It is still good to see some surprises from time to time as it keeps the tension and the excitement for the sport higher.

That is what I think as well about Zverev. It is as if he can't find his former self at all. He acts as if he is a different person. Losing against Medvedev is not embarrassing or anything, but starting into the match like that is a sign of inferior preparation or a lack of readiness. He is still young but for now his career is taking a negative turn.

Well as I suspected playing Coric posed a different set of challenges that Marozsan wasnt
able to overcome. It was a good run though to get to the round of 16!

Zverev IMO is suffering from a lack of confidence, ever since he got injured last year.

Coric is the next test for him and then we can discuss again. Smiley
Well Marozsan has taken the first set and the second set is still on serve.... It looks like his
high profile win yesterday hasnt phased him.

Have a bet on the Djokovic vs Rune match so just hope it doesn't end in the same fashion for Novak.
Like to see how far he can go all the way up to Roland Garros.

Sinner out from Roma ! Bad news Sad I should admit but Cerundolo has played today at high level.
Rublev out, Alcaraz out, Tiafoe out.... A lot of surprise during this tournament.
Lets see tonight Musetti against Tsitsipas Roll Eyes
Thats dissapointing for Sinner, Cerundolo could probably classed as a clay court specialist
so that was a tough one for Sinner. Italian hopes are all now on Musetti.
Of the top 10 seeds left in the tournament we have Djokovic, Medvedev, Ruud, Tsitsipas,

Thought Zverev had set 2 already so switched off. Didn't know Medvedev finished him in straight sets. A shame but might as well.
Since I had them over 21.5 games on my Sinner bet when he was down a set. So that one already lost since it was the match before Danill.
Marozsan has been the giant killer of the tournament taking out Carlito the way he did.

Have a bet on the Djokovic vs Rune match so just hope it doesn't end in the same fashion for Novak.

...And there are no more Italians...After Fognini / Sonego /Sinner ...all gone with the defeat of Musetti yesterday night. Despite he plays really strong and he was on advantage in the second set there was no chance against Tsitsipas. Of course a crowd screaming like a football match it was not enough...

Zverev still have problems finding his form. He has now lost to Medvedev for the third time. Previously in Indian Wells and Monaco. It seems that Zverev becoming his favourite opponent.
Interestingly is that other Germans are better at the moment. Struff had reached the final in Madrid and played a good match against Alcaraz. And at the current tournament in Rome, Hanfmann won against Rublev and will play against Medvedev in the quarter-finals.

Yes I kind of agree, its way to early to make an assumption on Marozsan.
Lets see what he does against Coric, different opponent and different set of challenges,
also he has to be able to mentally prepare again for a new match and forget the massive
upset he created.

ATM I would liken this to the win Raducanu had in 2019 on the WTA when she won
the US Open and her opponent in that final Fernandez, they havent really built
on that final appearance.

Its exciting IMO that something different like this has happened, I think though
Alcaraz was ambushed in a way, he was taken by surprise and couldnt react quickly
enough and probably massively underestimated his opponent.

Games like these can happen. It is not like we have never seen before that Federer, Djokovic or Nadal got beaten in the first or second round against an unknown player. It does happen very rarely, but it does and often times we see that player who eliminated one of the strong players to get eliminated himself the next round. Every time I think that is hard to be explained, but it probably has more to do with a performance low of the better player than with a performance high of the weaker player. It needs a confirmation from Maroszan from here on. If he beats some more players now in this tournament who are way ahead in the ranking, that could be a sign that he is onto something. But he is already 23, he is not the normal youngster and I even haven't read that name before in tennis. Coric is the next test for him and then we can discuss again. Smiley

It's a shame I had to miss the Marozsan vs Alcaraz bet on the clay court ATP singles in Rome (Italy) just because the Odds were so low.
Even though this is a good opportunity to get a number of benefits.
This fight will be dominated by Alcaraz so he will easily become the winner.
Marozsan is really no match for Alcaraz, so whoever bets on Alcaraz for this match, you can get a win.

In surprising turn of events. Alcaraz has lost the first set against Marozsan and that too a convincing 6-3. I still doubt Marozsan will be able to win the match though. He was almost out of the tournament, the last round itself but got lucky with the opponent playing very poorly through out the match, especially at the end.

Edit: Marozsan beat Alcaraz 2-0. You should be glad you didn't bet because of the low odds.  Grin
New Star have emerged with the win against Alcaraz. It was completely unexpected, and we were able to see good number of matches in recent tournaments won by the underdogs. This time the second set was expected to be a win from Alcaraz, but the competence from Marozsan is really great and the tough play at the tie breaker turned the match. Second set was very close that Marozsan won it 77-64. Marozsan have reached the highest of 128th rank and winning against No.1 is a big day for him.

I think it's too early to say that a new star is born or something like that. All greatest players lose and sometimes they lose completely unexpectedly to some low-ranked player. It's very likely this Marozsan guy will lose in the next round like 0:6, 1:6 which is typical for new players on tour. Win against top10 guy then lose to some top100 player. Been there, done that. I watched Sinner v Shevchenko yesterday and that match was also too tight for Sinner's liking. Shevchenko took it to the 3rd set and actually had a chance defeat Sinner.

Yes I kind of agree, its way to early to make an assumption on Marozsan.
Lets see what he does against Coric, different opponent and different set of challenges,
