Sinner out from Roma ! Bad news Sad I should admit but Cerundolo has played today at high level.
Rublev out, Alcaraz out, Tiafoe out.... A lot of surprise during this tournament.
Lets see tonight Musetti against Tsitsipas Roll Eyes

Thats dissapointing for Sinner, Cerundolo could probably classed as a clay court specialist
so that was a tough one for Sinner. Italian hopes are all now on Musetti.

Of the top 10 seeds left in the tournament we have Djokovic, Medvedev, Ruud, Tsitsipas,
Rune. Its really looking good for Djokovic at this stage.

Coric is the next test for him and then we can discuss again. Smiley

Well Marozsan has taken the first set and the second set is still on serve.... It looks like his
high profile win yesterday hasnt phased him.

Yes I kind of agree, its way to early to make an assumption on Marozsan.
Lets see what he does against Coric, different opponent and different set of challenges,
also he has to be able to mentally prepare again for a new match and forget the massive
upset he created.

ATM I would liken this to the win Raducanu had in 2019 on the WTA when she won
the US Open and her opponent in that final Fernandez, they havent really built
on that final appearance.

Its exciting IMO that something different like this has happened, I think though
Alcaraz was ambushed in a way, he was taken by surprise and couldnt react quickly
enough and probably massively underestimated his opponent.

Games like these can happen. It is not like we have never seen before that Federer, Djokovic or Nadal got beaten in the first or second round against an unknown player. It does happen very rarely, but it does and often times we see that player who eliminated one of the strong players to get eliminated himself the next round. Every time I think that is hard to be explained, but it probably has more to do with a performance low of the better player than with a performance high of the weaker player. It needs a confirmation from Maroszan from here on. If he beats some more players now in this tournament who are way ahead in the ranking, that could be a sign that he is onto something. But he is already 23, he is not the normal youngster and I even haven't read that name before in tennis. Coric is the next test for him and then we can discuss again. Smiley

It's a shame I had to miss the Marozsan vs Alcaraz bet on the clay court ATP singles in Rome (Italy) just because the Odds were so low.
Even though this is a good opportunity to get a number of benefits.
This fight will be dominated by Alcaraz so he will easily become the winner.
Marozsan is really no match for Alcaraz, so whoever bets on Alcaraz for this match, you can get a win.

In surprising turn of events. Alcaraz has lost the first set against Marozsan and that too a convincing 6-3. I still doubt Marozsan will be able to win the match though. He was almost out of the tournament, the last round itself but got lucky with the opponent playing very poorly through out the match, especially at the end.

Edit: Marozsan beat Alcaraz 2-0. You should be glad you didn't bet because of the low odds.  Grin
New Star have emerged with the win against Alcaraz. It was completely unexpected, and we were able to see good number of matches in recent tournaments won by the underdogs. This time the second set was expected to be a win from Alcaraz, but the competence from Marozsan is really great and the tough play at the tie breaker turned the match. Second set was very close that Marozsan won it 77-64. Marozsan have reached the highest of 128th rank and winning against No.1 is a big day for him.

I think it's too early to say that a new star is born or something like that. All greatest players lose and sometimes they lose completely unexpectedly to some low-ranked player. It's very likely this Marozsan guy will lose in the next round like 0:6, 1:6 which is typical for new players on tour. Win against top10 guy then lose to some top100 player. Been there, done that. I watched Sinner v Shevchenko yesterday and that match was also too tight for Sinner's liking. Shevchenko took it to the 3rd set and actually had a chance defeat Sinner.

I watched the match and it was so unexpected that a player with as many titles as Alcaraz should lose to Marozsan.
This was the first time I saw a tennis match where the result was unexpected because usually anyone who has the chance to win can definitely win the match but this time it was really extraordinary.
Marozsan must feel happy and proud because he managed to defeat Alcaraz.

That was really unexpected but it happens every now and then. Especially at the beginning of a career. Alcaraz is still young and he will certainly lose a few more times. That is not bad either. Because it will give him more experience and show him that he is not invincible either. Now many will be curious to see how Marozsan will play against Coric.

My comment was not about the fact that female athletes earn less than men or whether women are less capable than men. That is a completely different topic, although we should also discuss whether it is okay for women and men to be paid differently for the same job.
However, my comment was referring to specific examples from this tennis tournament, such as the fact that the women are not allowed to speak after their match is over, which is a common practice after every tennis final and this is something that only lasts a few minutes and should not be a problem for the organizers.
Another example is the ball girls who wear shorter clothes than the ball boys, which points to the fact that these girls are deliberately sexualized and in some way became sexual objects for the purpose of attracting more male audiences to the tennis tournament.
If you think that's okay, I want to ask all of you who have daughters, would you let them do the ball girl job half-naked in front of a bunch of men? Wouldn't you be embarrassed?
Is the only way girls can do this job is to be half-naked, unlike boys who do this job normally clothed?

The world is not all sunshine and rainbows. A to have been great if everyone had the mores and ethics like you. But sadly that's not the case. And we cannot leave life depending on what could have and would have. The fact of the matter is women cannot do anything better in the outside world compared to a man. And the main reason why women are hired is because everyone wants diversity and women are not as disagreeable as men when it comes to discussing the salary.

To answer your question, if I had a daughter (which I may or may not have) I wouldn't have let her be in a situation where she might embarrass ourself because of her short dress. Of course, the girl should be wearing long clothes. Actually, I would say girls should wear longer clothes compared to men because there is the way it should be. But let's be realistic. Almost all of these organizations are going to somehow sexualise women just to have more viewers. For now, the best action is to keep your daughter away from these. But the last time I checked the mothers are actually fighting for their daughters to be naked.

no matter how strong and favored is a team or a player... a surprise is always possible. and with one set already lost 1.01 is too low Sad if the odds had been slightly higher 1.05 or 1.10 I'm sure many would have bet in favor of the Spanish.
too bad we can't see other Alcaraz matches live here in Rome Sad

Well this Marozsan is making a bit of a name for himself, he has taking the first set against
Alcaraz 6-3. Its doubtful if he can win the next 2 sets, that would be the shock of the year really.
Just checking his stats on the ATP site, this is his biggest tournament being an ATP1000 one,
he has previously played on the Challenger circuit.
Unfortunately, Alcaraz was unable to make this game longer, the second set through the tiebreak was able to outperform 4-1 but this Hungarian player was capable of taking all the points and closing the game into his victory, and this is really surprising because Alcaraze will always be a favorite in clay, I'm sure no one thought that he would be knocked out earlier I neither because he faced players outside the top 100, and proving that Alcaraz could still be defeated despite the clay.

On the Italian front Cecchinato was beaten by Hanfmann and Musetti plays Tiafoe
and Sonego plays Tsitsipas later today, I think Musetti has a good chance to get past
Francis.
I’m looking forward to this match, because it seems to be going fairly balanced, of the two Italians who will play I think Mussetti has the better chance of winning and advance to next round, also some other matches like Medvedev vs. Miralles will probably run interesting and maybe Medvedev will get a little trouble in the beginning because the Spanish tennis player always performs better in clay or Medvedev surprising with defeat.

Rublev is currently leading after managing to pass the first set through a fairly tight match through tie break, and it seems he will be able to make this game just two sets and beat Fokina, to meet Hanfmann in the next round.

The reality is sexist. I would simply think that this comes down to the organizations being able to get a lot more money as a form of revenue from the men's competition compared to the women's. So they also tend to show men better treatment. Is it okay to treat men and women equally when when are the ones doing the bulk of the earning?
And last time I checked women wanted to have the freedom of wearing anything they want. There is even something called "free the nipple" movement going on. Why is it when women benefit from sexism they don't say anything but whenever it doesn't benefit them they start to complain?
In this case, it is not about something that the women voluntarily agreed to, but about the decision of the organizers, and no one asked the women for their opinion.
After the final matches, only the girls were not allowed to give the usual speech although they wanted to speak. Maybe the organizers thought that the women had nothing smart to say and that it was a waste of time?
As for the ball girls, do you think they had a choice whether they wanted to look sexy and wear short sleeved tops and short skirts or they also had no choice?
If the girls could decide for themselves that they wanted to look sexy and wear shorter skirts, and that was their choice, then I have no problem with that, but I kind of doubt that they could decide the length of their tops and skirts.
So what is the purpose of those girls at the tennis match? To do the same job as the boys and help the tennis players during the match or to wear as skimpy clothes as possible, look sexy and attract the male crowd to the tennis match?
In that case, it might be better for the organizers to simply hire strippers to strip naked on the tennis court, if that's the only purpose of the girls at the match.
If the purpose of ball girls is the same as ball boys, to help tennis players during a match, then they should have equal rights and wear exactly the same clothes.
Otherwise, in my opinion, this case is about sexism and the humiliation and exploitation of women.

So what is the purpose of giving the girls the same treatment as the boys when we all know that they are not even as entertaining as the boys and also not going to bring in the amount of money that the boys can?

I am not saying that the girls should be deprived of any rights. We all know that women are not as physically capable as men even though women are certainly better at some other aspects of life when compared to men. But when you are not as capable as man you should not expect the same treatment as men as well.

Everyone is saying that what the organizers did is sexist. But sexism is the reason why there is a women counterpart of every sport right now.

As I said, women only complain when sexism doesn't benefit them. If they feel so violated and humiliated why don't they get better and bring more revenue compared to men?

Alcaraz has won the opening match in Rome and is thus again the new number 1 in the world for men. It was also a matter of time before that would happen. It's actually pretty good that he's in first place again, because in November he wasn't able to play tennis for a few months and other players were able to catch up with him. Djokovic remains a great. I think Djokovic plays a little less on clay, but he is also one of the favorites at the French Open. I'm starting to lose confidence that Nadal will participate in that tournament. Age and injuries are not a happy combination.

I think Nadal is done already, or if he will able to play in his favorite tournament, if he is not 100% and still feeling some pain from his injuries and obviously the wear and tear throughout his career, I doubt that he can win that win.

It will still be Alcaraz and Djokovic who will be the early favorite in clay.

And then the rest trying to do a catch up, Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Ruud.

@Kemarit Alcaraz is the new generation’s champion and if he can take care of his fitness then he can go on to break all the records set by Djokovic because he has lots of potential in him. Also Nadal is keeping mum about his participation at the French Open and I’ll be truly disappointed if he doesn’t play there one last time because that’s the tournament I first saw him play many year’s back and I immediately switched from being a Federer fan to being a Nadal fan Grin.

Barcelona now has a 0-4 lead at Espanyol. It's really starting to look more like a training game now, to be honest. Always nice to put down such scores, especially if you already know that you are champion of Spain. Somehow it is a pity that Messi did not go back to Barcelona and decided to opt for the big money. Busquets is also leaving, but I think Barcelona have built a new team in a good way this year. Last year you already saw some flurries of the level, but players like Gabi and Pedir have also developed stormy.

Perhaps Nadal is preparing optimally for the tournament in Paris. He may then play a tournament and prepare optimally until then. That man made tennis great in Spain. There was a picture of Nadal on every building at the time. Perhaps Nadal is somewhere happy and relieved that Alcaraz is here now, that should be Nadal's successor. I'd rather have a compatriot succeeding to the throne than an old rival? I think Nadal and Alcaraz would love to play against each other again, and maybe they'll train together these days. Who else can Alcaraz learn from than Nadal?
