What a game. I mean it was not very exciting to watch, but nole just showed everyone how it's done. Let's see if he can match Nadal's 17 GC this year!

I first mentioned this last year that Djokovic could be the player to surpass Nadal and Federer in Grand Slam titles won and right now my prediction is looking very good. If Nadal doesn't win the French Open this year then yes I believe Djokovic can match Nadal's 17 GS titles this year as if Djokovic can stay fit and healthy then he will be hard to beat at Wimbledon and the US Open. He may even win the French Open with the form he is in right now.

@Kemarit and I have been saying this for a while now about Djokovic as his form in the back end of last season looked like the Djokovic of old. He now becomes the outright Australia Open winner on 7 titles and also surpasses Pete Sampras on the all time GS winners. We are all very lucky to see the top 3 players all of time play at the same time and I'm not sure if we'll see this again.

Now Djokovic is 2 championships away from Nadals all time of 17 major final wins and 20 for Federer.
Well after Federer and Nadal currently if there is anyone who deserves to win over 20 major titles then it's Djokovic. He is the quickest and smartest player around.

Looks like Nole is taking over the match, I just glanced on the live score, so he already took the first 2 sets against Nadal. As I have said, I will go for Nole, but I didn't expect him to be up 2-0. Anyways, Nadal still had a lot of chance in the 3rd set, but he seems to be getting tired or started to tire out. Let's go for a 5 set classic thriller.
It's over Nadal could not make it. Djokovic won the third set and own the match. Nadal lost because Djokovic was too cleaver and fast for him. I was looking forward to a marathon match though.

Congrats Djokovic for the title.

Right, I was expecting Nadal to at least make a comeback run and force a 4th or even a 5th and deciding game but it looks like Nole is really unstoppable at this point. He seems to be very nervous as well, I don't know maybe he is really tired and didn't offer more resistance to Nole.

Congrats to both Osaka and Djokovic for winning the 2019 trophy both of them deserves to win and a good start for them as well.
I was certain Djokovic was going to win but in straight sets the odds werent that great either. Think they were just over 3.5x and to risk any amount on a finals would of been careless to do since their opponent would be putting up a fight to even win one of the sets. But Nadal didnt have any solution in doing this for some reason.
As the announcer said "There are no excuses!" for Nadal this time.
He was simply out matched and out played. Well done Nole! Wink

That was like the best physical match I have ever seen till now . It would be great to see another match like that ( but I doubt it given both their ages and energy now ) but I am sure it is going to be a great match . So what do you guys think? 4 setter or 5?
Tomorrow is the day we will decide everything hehe

I would like to see a 5 setter match. More entertainments. It's been really long time since I have seen a very lengthy tennis match. Who are you going to pick by the way?
5 setter hehe
I had high expectation for the match but seeing the match ended in three sets was frustrating.

Anyway it was an well deserved win for Djokovic. Let him enjoy it.

It is just me that the Women's side was more exciting to watch in this years finale in the AO? Osaka's win was a thriller as compared to Novak's crushing Nadal in the Men's side? Anyways, Novak proves why he is the number one player today.

Was a bit surprised at how easily Djoko took this final. I was expecting a close match and probably five sets but Djoko managed to take early break in every set and never looked to be troubled on his serve.

I just hope both will be 100% fit at the time of RG so we can get some epic matches.

I remember this match between Djokovic and Nadal very well as I stayed up until 2am which is when the match finished. This was one of the best matches of all time as the momentum swung around a lot during the match, at times it looked like Nadal would win as Djokovic looked down and out but some how he fought back and the same for Nadal. I'm expecting this AO final to be another epic battle between two of the greatest players of all time and for me I'm think Djokovic will be the one to win as he has the edge on Nadal for a while now and also Djokovic is suited by Nadal's left handed playing style, that is why we see Djokovic play so well against Nadal while almost all other struggle. I can't wait for this but in the mean time we have the Women's final tonight which should be a good match as well. I think Osaka will win as she is so strong however Kvitova is playing some good tennis right now and being a 2 time Grand Slam winner, she can't be counted out.

This was indeed an amazing game. Loved every bit of it. I was already for Nole back then and I am really happy he got his shit together and is playing correctly again.

Nole all the way Smiley

Just witness a thriller in which Novak Djokovic  stood out to be a winner. It makes me remember of the few classic matches which were being played between Nadal and Freder.  Novak Djokovic  also catered the Nadal shots well and as the game progressed Djokovic became more stronger. Also I feel a sense of tiredness in the last 2 rounds by Nadal.

Now that's what you call a FINALE . What a great match , congrats to the new star of tennis , Osaka . Well done Kvitova , its never easy to come back like you did . Osaka has a good overall game and I just hope she continues to play like this .
Nadal v Djoker today , lets do it Nadal.

Yeah, the ladies has set the tone for a final Australian Open finals, Osaka vs Kvitova was one hell of a match. Its sad to see Kvitova fall short, but nevertheless we can call her the comeback girl.

So now its time for the big boys to show their stuff, I'm leaning towards Nole today, it there's anyone who can match Nadal's athleticism in the court, it could be Nole. I'm not expecting Nole to just steamroll Nadal, I wanted to see a five setter make or break game.

Nadal couldnt do it against an injured Federer as I remember when he came back from the medical timeout he was amazing and had his second wind to win the match.
I believe Nole will have an easy one against Nadal as he is a foxy player that turns it up another level in the finals and this time he wants to keep his number 1 spot on the circuit.
Noleeeee! Grin

What a great match the Women's final was, it was close all the way through out the match and either player could of won however the younger Osaka was able to come through in the end which I suspected. I have been watching her for a while now and I really believe that she is someone who can get close to Serena Williams in Grand Slam titles won. Yes I'm calling it early that Osaka could be the one as she has the mentality and strength to get through tough matches. She showed it in this final after she overcomes a mid match fade to win in the third set. I think we have a special player here and its good to see the young talent start to rise to the top on the Women's side and now we just need to see it on the Men's side.

Indeed was a great match. As what their prime minister said, it is the birth of a new world in tennis. She did her best to win the autralian open and winning a back to back prestigeous championships. Now ranking as number 1 in the women's category surely gives pride to herself and her home country.

Congrats to Osaka for winning the championship in the women's side. It was a tough matter as she almost collapse in the 2nd set, she has 3 game point if I'm not mistaken and Kvitova rally. But Osaka composes herself and now she is rank #1.

A lot is stake at the Womens side as well. The winner could be the number 1 player, if Osaka wins she will be the first Asian to be on top, and she will also be the second player after 18 years (Capriati being the 1st), to win a second grand-slam title in the event immediately following their first.

Kvitova on the other hand will cap his remarkable run after a potentially career-threatening knife attack in 2016 (severe cut to all four fingers on her left and playing hand). Remind us of the Monica Seles back stabbing incident by a crazy Stefi Graf fan in 1993.

Everyone brace yourself for the Australian Open 2019 finals between Nadal and Djokovic.

Djokovic destroys Lucas Poullie 6-2, 6-2, 6-0 setting up a finals shutdown with Rafael Nadal. It will be really hard to pick who's going to win the tournament this year as both of them are in the top of their game specially Nadal. As vella85 and me said before, those young prospect like Tsitsipas and Poullie usually melts down at this kind of big tournaments. Both of them reached the semis but it seems the lack of experienced really shows as the two performed way below of what is expected from them.

Predictions for the finals? Who you got?

Both players that reached the finals are both veterans, so it hard to predict who will win but most likely the one with a good body condition will win. I think Djokovic will win the finals because I think Nadal can't keep up with the pace that Djokovic will give to him.

Good point, and if I'm not mistaken, the last time they face each other is during Wimbledon 2018 semis wherein Djokovic outlasted Nadal in a dramatic fashion. That was the time that Djokovic started his magical run to regain the top spot. But this time its Nadal who is in top form, so I'm expecting another 5 hours match with a lot of momentum shift. I wanna hear other opinions as well.  Grin
5 hours long match! Well it's nice to see. I can't remember when was the last time I have seen a long match. I am interested to see a list of long matches in the tennis history.
I remember watching one of the longest last year with Isner (thought it was Baustia Augt for a minute) which was in a tiebreak and was 16 match points to win it in the fifth set or something like this.
But #5 was none other then Novak Djokovic and Rafal Nadal in 2012 Australian open which took 5 hours and 53 minutes.
https://www.sportskeeda.com/tennis/longest-tennis-grand-slam-matches-off-all-time-history
"Both the players were so tired after the final during the post-match presentation that they were given chairs to sit on. The Spaniard Nadal was up a break in the final set but Djokovic clawed his way back to level the score at 4-4. He broke Nadal in the 5-5 and then served out the match to win the final set 7-5.

Result: Novak Djokovic def. Rafael Nadal 5–7, 6–4, 6–2, 6–7(5–7), 7–5 "

When we come to women's side although Osaka looks calm , confident and stronger than Kvitova , I want Kvitova to win .
