The Sri Lankan team managed to bat well on the first day, losing only three wickets. I think they will prepare to bat better on the second day, Dinesh Chandimal was in great batting form today, scored a great century with his bat and scored a huge score of 116 runs. Sri Lanka scored 306 runs on the first day, but if they batted on the second day, they would have scored 450 runs. And since the Sri Lankan team is preparing for a great batting from the beginning, I think that the New Zealand team may have less chance of winning this match with Sri Lanka.

BCB is richer than NZC? I am not sure about that. But apart from this, there are a few points that I would consider:

1. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka doesn't even have a decent 4-day domestic competition. They have a Club-based structure, that focuses heavily on the cities of Dhaka and Colombo respectively. On the other hand, New Zealand 4-day competition is around for more than a century and is well renowned for its quality.

2. Stats can be misleading. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka may look better than they are in reality. They prepare dust bowls against SENA nations and thereby win matches. Pakistan rarely uses this strategy.

3. In case of Pakistan, there is a region-based 4-day domestic competition. But PCB management changes every 2-3 years and this results in changes to the format and thereby instability.

Is Sri Lanka better than Pakistan? It is debatable. But overall, given level playing field (i.e no home advantage, no injuries to major players, matches organized by neutral boards.etc), I would say that Pakistan is far better.

Since Sri Lanka had a good start, we can assume that Sri Lanka may either win this match or if New Zealand shows the same strength in batting, then maybe we see a close match that results in a draw. The chances for New Zealand to win seem low. Considering all these factors, I have placed a bet on Sri Lanka in this match. I got only 1.07 odds for this but still i think this is a safe bet and therefore acceptable.

After the win against New Zealand in the first match, Sri Lanka players are now very confident in the second match. The first match was very competitive. New Zealand's batsmen could have won if they played a little better in the second innings. But the performance of New Zealand's batsmen was poor in the second innings. So Sri Lanka managed to win the match.

In the second match, New Zealand's bowlers are not able to make any advantage. Sri Lanka lost the wicket of their opener Pathum Nissanka very quickly. But then every batsman in Sri Lanka's top order batted very well. Chandimal was dismissed for 116 runs. Mathews remains unbeaten with 78 runs and Mendis with 51 runs. The Sri Lankan team has already accumulated a huge total of 306 runs with the loss of only 3 wickets. It seems that the New Zealand team will lose this match by a big margin. Sri Lanka are taking advantage of their home ground very well.

If financial strength is a concern then Proteas and Kiwis should stop playing test format. It might surprise many but BCB is richer than CSA and NZC (Even SLC, ZC and CWI are richer than NZC).

* Sri Lanka produces better results when compared to Pakistan and are marginally ahead in performance. Lately, their stocks are going up because of good performances

* Windies and Bangladesh are equally shit, although the emergence of fast bowling in Bangladesh camp creates some hope and in recent times their stocks have been in an uptrend but need consistency and good leadership.

* Similarly Pakistan stocks are all time low on all fronts. Worst home season results due to braindead policies of PCB, Depleted and tiring seam attack due to fitness and lack of work management, Virtually nothing to show in the Spin department and camps within players which is not a healthy environment for any team sport. They rarely turn up for competition in SENA, unless it's English conditions.
 

Well.. it doesn't surprise me when teams like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh use the home advantage to win matches against SENA nations. The problem with teams such as New Zealand is that they don't have quality spinners or adaptable pace bowlers who are capable of bowling in hostile sub-continental conditions. Sri Lanka seems to have made some sort of a recovery in recent years. After their golden generation retired, they were in turmoil for some time. But now, slowly the younger players are filling the vacuum.

With Sri Lanka's wicket falling for the team's second run, it looked like the match might be under pressure for Sri Lanka, but later Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal formed a partnership that changed the momentum of the match. However, the bowlers of New Zealand could not benefit at all in today's innings, but today was completely in favor of Sri Lanka. Is New Zealand on the way to a whitewash in the two-match Test series?  If Sri Lanka can score big then whitewash is only a matter of time.

Impressive performance by the Sri Lankan team on home ground. New Zealand has been suffering with loss for some time now but Sri Lanka too was a lost cause a year ago. People claimed Sri Lanka might lose their test status if they failed to perform but the combination of old players and newer ones from domestic cricket of Sri Lanka had yielded a good team this time. They have been doing well against every team they played this year. They have had an impressive first day. The first thing they'll do tomorrow is score quick and get to 500 as soon as possible and preferably declare their inning. Even if they are all out, it would be a competitive score if they scored over 400.

Sri Lanka is looking very strong at the moment. They are 306/3 at the end of first day's play with Angelo Mathews and Kamindu Mendis at the crease. New Zealand has failed to overcome their weakness in sub-continental conditions. William O’Rourke and Ajaz Patel performed decently in the first match, but they failed this time. A lot was expected from Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips as well, but they also failed to take wickets. Maybe the New Zealand captain need to use Rachin Ravindra more frequently in these spin-friendly conditions.

Chandimal scored 116 runs off 208 balls, the highest run scorer for his side and worked hard for the team. At the moment Sri Lanka team scored 306 runs in 90 overs for three wickets, this performance of Sri Lanka team today hurt the New Zealand team the most. Because the Sri Lankan team will perform better in the second innings because if they can definitely score good runs then there will be a good chance of winning the second match. 
The bowlers of the New Zealand team are not able to reduce the run rate, Glenn Phillips is the only one who has performed well on the bowling side. Moreover, the available bowlers are not able to put any pressure on the Sri Lankan batsmen due to which the Sri Lankan team is ready to score more runs.

Kurunaratne was run out unnecessarily, getting run out where no run was needed. However the first day in Sri Lanka was for Sri Lanka which ended the first day on 306 runs but if Sri Lanka can play the two sessions tomorrow they will easily cross 500+ runs.
Galle International Stadium is originally a batting pitch for this test?  The way Sri Lanka are scoring runs seems to be a completely batting assisted pitch. However, if Sri Lanka's score reaches 500 runs, Sri Lanka will be very close to winning the second Test with ease.  However, this Test will definitely be a challenge for New Zealand as they lost the first Test, which is why New Zealand will want a draw or a win in this Test.

I think Sri Lanka players are looking to win the game this time too and they did a wonderful play in the first day, they lost just three wickets and stand a big target of 306. I think if Sri Lanka uses 20 overs more (tomorrow) then they could make 360 or may quickly chase to this. Now, I am expecting the same effort or performance from their bowlers.



Recap of today's innings, Sri Lanka has not made a good start as Pathum Nissanka was out after making 1 run in 3 balls. Then after 38 or 39th over, we saw another fall of Sri Lanka wicket of Dimuth Karunaratne  and at that time, they were on 124. It looked like New Zealand bowlers were in good form at that time but then Dinesh Chandimal played stunning innings of 116.

Day 1 ended, Sri Lanka scored 306 runs for the loss of 3 wickets on day 1. Sri Lanka's batting line-up has been very good. All the batsmen performed well except Sri Lanka's opening batsmen. Sri Lanka's opening batting Pathum Nissanka got out in the 1st over, with Sri Lanka's wicket falling in the 1st over I thought Sri Lanka would be under pressure but Dinesh Chandimal and Dimuth Karunaratne performed brilliantly to take the team to a good position. Dinesh Chandimal batted well and was dismissed for 116 runs. Dimuth Karunaratne fell short of his half-century, getting out for 46 runs. Angelo Mathews remains unbeaten on 78 runs, Kamindu Mendis remains unbeaten on 51 runs. New Zealand's bowlers were aggressive at the start, but could not bowl well later on. New Zealand bowlers need to bowl well and Sri Lanka will try to get all out quickly tomorrow.

After the wicket of Pathum Nissanka I thought that Sri Lanka might not do very well in today's match but that perception changed when Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal put up good scores. Currently Sri Lanka have completed 300 runs for 3 wickets and they are definitely in a good position in this team situation. I hope this score can be much bigger. Looks like both Angelo Mathews and Kamindu Mendis are heading for another big partnership. If they can settle down tomorrow, surely Sri Lanka will be able to score big ‍and in such a situation, Sri Lanka will be far ahead in this test as well. Sri Lanka played very well in the last Test match and they are expected to maintain that consistency in the 2nd Test.

It was really a pity for  P Nissanka that he could not score for his team and got out on the third ball.  But now Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal are also out and Sri Lanka team is currently 250 runs but Dinesh Chandimal has done a very good performance he has completed his century and scored 116 runs, and now is batting on the pitch .  They are Angelo Mathews and Kamindu Mendis. Angelo Mathews also completed his half century and so far he is batting well and Wahab has scored 16 runs so far and I hope Kamindu Mendis will perform well because it is enough in every match.  Looks like they are performing well.  It is certain that Sri Lanka team  is going to give a very good target on the first day, I see Sri Lanka team  giving 400 plus corn target.

This logic does not make any sense. It depends on the opponents and the ground condition. No matter how well the team is, if the wicket is bowling-friendly, it is possible that both teams will lose all their wickets just in one day. But if the wicket is batting friendly, even weaker team will be able to play two or three days and the possible result could be draw.

If Bangladeshi batters cannot play a single session, then it won't take three days to end the match. But, if Bangladesh manage to play well and can bat two days in the first innings, then you never know what is going to happen. You cannot actually say that result will come in three days for all the matches.

Yes, you are right day one of second test match session 2 is continue and Sri lanka current score is 194 runs in a loss of just 2 wickets. New Zealand after picking first early wicket in 2 runs then their bowlers didn't pick any futher wickets. Tim Southee bowl well so far picked the first crucial wicket of Pathum Nissanka at 1 run. The second wicket partnership between Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimalis is 122 runs played an important role to score this total in second session of the day. Dinesh Chandimal playing scored a well deserved century and Angelo Mathews is also playing at 35 runs. This partnership will reached Sri Lanka inning into the next level. New Zealand needs to break this partnership then they will ge back in this match

Pathum Nishanka got out in the first over today, but left a lot behind in terms of runs. However, although the Sri Lankan team was worried at the beginning, Chandimal and Mathews, who have formed a partnership for a long time, have performed well. Sri Lanka scored 153 runs for 2 wickets in 46 overs, winning the first Test match by a considerable margin.
But coming to this second test match today Sri Lanka team batting performance is very good but if Sri Lanka team can perform batting performance like this then surely New Zealand team can give target of four hundred plus more runs. But relatively New Zealand team is not able to create pressure from the bowling side, because the weak performance from the bowling side will later put the New Zealand team under pressure.

Yes it was correct that there is a lot of lack of experience and performance among the players of the Bangladesh team. Moreover, all the players in this team have low mental confidence. No matter which country in the world they play against India, they can never say for sure that they will win. Just as India has the best batsman, they also have the best bowling team. We may all know that Indians have the highest batting range among the cricket playing nations of the world. The last match of the Test series between Bangladesh and India will start tomorrow.

Maybe this match is not at all easy for Bangladesh but still Bangladesh should forget the failure of the first test match and restore confidence in themselves and perform properly. Many Bangladeshi cricket fans want the Bangladesh team to perform with confidence in the Test series against Pakistan as well as against India. Even if Bangladesh can't win the match, at least draw the match is also honorable for Bangladesh.

They will most definitely score 300+ runs now unless they suffer a batting collapse out of nowhere thanks to Karunaratne and Chandimal batting really well together while the Kiwi bowlers look hopeless.

Rourke is the only bowler that could trouble the Lankans which is why they need to watch out for him. Sri Lanka has started out really well in the second test.
