Yesterday, DK was interacting with fans on Twitter, and when asked about the biggest threat for India in the upcoming BGT. He said, Nathan Lyon and Steve Smith.

I agree on Steve Smith, but not on Nathan Lyon. IMO, Lyon is a substandard spinner, nowhere near Shane Warne, Jason Krejza or even Adam Zampa. And he is not going to trouble the Indian batsmen, given their experience against spin. For Indian batsmen, the biggest threat will come in the form of pace - Cummins, Boland, Starc and Hazlewood. Apart from Boland, all of these players have good experience in Indian pitches, thanks to the IPL. And with the batting department, I think everyone is underestimating Marnus Labushcagne.

BTW, Indian selectors still seems to be confused about whom to select as replacement for Pant and Iyer. They can pick either Suryakumar Yadav or Shubman Gill, and keep KL Rahul on the other end. Or they can pick both of them, and then drop Rahul. In that case, Rohit Sharma will open the batting along with Shubman Gill. KS Bharat is included in the squad, but I will be surprised if he makes his debut and considered ahead of Ishan Kishan. Among the bowlers, only Ashwin and Shami are confirmed. Selectors may go with Axar for the first match.
KL Rahul and Gill seem more like fixed in the playing XI but IMO confusion would be about who should play at the opening slot and Number 5. KL Rahul is not in good touch but i would still prefer him over SKY.

Nathan has an impressive record in tests he has already taken 436 wickets in 115 matches. In India, he has taken 34 wickets in just 7 matches. In my opinion, he is a big threat to Indian batters. Steve Smith has been good against Indian bowlers. Out of 6 test matches played in India, he has scored 660 runs which includes 3 centuries and a half-century.
Nathon Lyon is good but not that threatening in India, sure he'll take at least 1 fifer here n there but largely Indian batters shouldn't face many difficulties facing him. He averages 30 on a rank turner, which is not a good stat for any spinner.

The partnership between Brandon Mavuta and Gary Ballance rescued Zimbabwe from a possible defeat. When Mavuta came to bat, Zimbabwe was in a horrible state (192/7). They still needed 56 runs to avoid the follow on. But the partnership between these two took Zimbabwe to a comfortable position and added 135 runs. So far it has been a good match for Brandon Mavuta. He took five wickets in the first innings, and then added valuable runs in the second innings (playing in his third test match). And West Indies should blame themselves, if they can't defeat a team like Zimbabwe.

I don't see any option but to draw the match. West Indies batsmen have batted well. However, apart from the two openers, the performance of the rest of the West Indies batsmen was not good. On the other hand, the performance of Zimbabwe's batsmen was outstanding. Zimbabwe's batsmen were not at all disturbed by West Indies' performance. They also played very well.

Zimbabwe scored 379 runs. I didn't think they would make such a big collection. Excellent batting by Innocent Kaia, Bary Ballance, and Mavuta helped Zimbabwe score 379 runs. If the two West Indies openers don't play well in the second innings, I think they will face a bad batting disaster. Let's enjoy the match.
Good batting from the Zimbabwean batsmen helps them for having draw in this game because mostly were not expecting batting like this but Gary Ballance and Brandon Mavuta had match saving partnership, and now we are going to enter in fifth days play with no chance for the result but here we have just one thing can Braithwaite and Chanderpaul do the magic again and have chance for the another century which give them good encouragement specially Chanderpaul Jr who is son of legendary West Indian middle order batsman and now have his first double century in his third test match after having decent start of his career against Australia in Australia.

West Indian bowling is also having no depth which able to help team for the having better result they need to work on this as well because it's also important for the test format if they want alive in this format with decent results right now they are down and out of the race and struggling for their survival in this format.

Zimbabwe lose all wickets between 200-250 runs, and bat again. And if so they will surely be defeated. But if Zimbabwe manages to score more than 350 in their first innings then the match is more likely to be a draw.
Zimbabwe would have gotten all out within 200 runs, but their 7th and 8th wicket partnership has helped them to score above 350 runs. The 8th wicket partnership was blessing for them, Gary Ballance and Brandon Mavuta had added 135 runs in that wicket. West Indies has started their second innings with 68 runs lead only. Now I can't see any other possibilities of this match except draw. Betting odds is 1.04× for the draw now.
I think the current performance of both team will end the match with draw , westindies player score phenomenal centuries and build a huge target while at start of Zimbabwe batting I taught they will unable to score even 200 because the batters can't safe him from quick dismissal, but late Gary Ballance score a big bunch of runs but unfortunately can't chase the target completely, I think Zimbabwe team are quite weak as compared to West indies in the absence of his star player sikander Raza and Blessing Muzarabani, if they were in the team may be the result will different

I don’t think that DRS is necessary for a team like Zimbabwe, because they could use that money to improve their existing facilities and groom their player’s so they can perform well at the international level. Furthermore WI played well and have put up a decent total on the board, but if they can’t get quick wickets now then then this game will end up in a draw and I believe that Zimbabwean player’s will be hoping to escape with a point from this match.
We have long history of good cricket without this technology and DRS but recently due to few controversies this all is also must for the game but due to poor management of ICC it's not affordable for the all boards which is also big issue right now they need to think about this and have to talk with all parties about the implementation of this technology for the all teams which will surely increase the quality of the game.

But, as test format is having decline in quality in different countries this need also better things even his future is not good with this all and due to time limit of the one test match and now as we have draws matches these are also not beneficial for the game and the fans of cricket.

This first test series between Zimbabwe and west indies will end in a draw and for that thanks to Zimbabwe Gary Ballance 137 runs innings and Brandon 56 runs which saved them from losing this match . If they didn't maintain this partnership West Indies could have easily won this test match.

The two West Indies openers are playing brilliantly. West Indies collected 221 runs without losing any wicket. Two batsmen scored over 100. I don't think Zimbabwean bowlers will bowl that badly. The series is sure to be a draw. West Indies may collect big, but chances of victory are slim.
The performance of the two West Indies openers impressed me. Chanderpaul remains unbeaten with 101 runs. And his strike rate is 34.7. And Brathwaite scored 116 runs unbeaten. Brathwaite's strike rate is 47.15. The two West Indies openers are batting very responsibly. Also, Zimbabwe's bowling is very weak. However, the match was delayed due to rain. Even though two days have already ended, not even an inning has ended.
Chanderpaul and Braithwaite playing real test cricket. In recent days with more T20 matches played, players started to play test cricket matches same as T-20 matches. Already two days over and this match gonna end in draw. Within few days the much expected India vs Australia Border - Gavaskar Trophy to begin. Four test matches between the two will be enjoyable days for the cricket fans.

My guess was to declare after collecting more than 560. But West Indies declared the innings after losing 6 wickets for 447 runs. Apart from the two openers, none of the West Indies batsmen can play well. The collection of the two openers was 389 runs. However, the performance of the Zimbabwean players is quite good. The pitch is completely batting friendly. Zimbabwe scored 113 runs for the loss of two wickets. But my guess is that Zimbabwe can score 250 runs at most. And West Indies will win the match.
There is no life in this pitch just because of this we have grand slam innings from the West Indian openers, and they are able to score 447, but now their bowlers are experienced and can do better than Zimbabwean bowlers if they are able to take early wickets then surely we can expect result in this match because now we have around 190 overs left in next two days plays and match situation can go into West Indian favour even it's just prediction but still can happen because Zimbabwe batsmen are not experienced like West Indian batsmen, and they can take good advantage of this all so now all depend on tomorrow first session how things will help and how these both teams will perform in this match which is surely waste of time and energy because no one on ground and nothing positive thing happening about this all just West Indians improving their record.

The pitch condition is very bad. The bowlers are not able to do any favors. Zimbabwe's batsmen are performing better than I expected. They have already collected 286 runs. I thought Zimbabwe would score a maximum of 250 runs. However, Zimbabwe lost 7 wickets and collected 290 runs. They are only 157 runs behind.

Gary Ballance and Mavuta at the crease have been outstanding, Gary on 93 not out and Mavuta on 44 not out. If the West Indies bowlers fail to break this pair, Zimbabwe will collect 400 runs today. Looking forward to a fight like this from Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe's batsmen are batting responsibly despite West Indies making a huge first-innings collection.

I believe that if Zimbabwe can actually keep wickets in hand, this match has a very high probability of being a draw. But I do not think that Zimbabwe will be able to actually hold on to the wickets. They have already lost three. That means three of the top order are already gone. That also means three of the best batsman that they have are gone. So good luck to Zimbabwe.
There is no chance for Zimbabwe to win this match. The betting odds is in favour of draw now. But I think West Indies will win the match. Zimbabwean batting lineup isn't strong enough. I think their batting lineup will collapse in the first session of day four. Anyway, I was expecting that West Indies will score more than 550 runs in the first innings. But they have declared their innings as they were losing the wickets quickly.
Absolutely the two opening pair batter of westindies were quite good they build a Strong partnership by scoring huge runs, but after Thier dismissal no westindian batter hold on a pitch for long, and for that reason they declare the inning. Now Zimbabwen batter as expectations didn't build a partnership rather than only one opening batter who score half century, now they lose 7 wickets in 94 overs while scoring 240, the hope for them who can chase the target if he stay long is G.ballance who's score 58 and still not out.

BGT starts tomorrow! Pretty much excited about it. I was trying to find out which Indian captain had more success in wining the BGT and the answer was simple Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Actually I would rate Sourav Ganguly ahead of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, because he had to face the best ever Australian team in extremely hostile conditions. The batsmen (Ganguly, Tendulkar, Dravid and Laxman) had to face legendary bowlers such as Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee, Shane Warne and Jason Gillespie. It was under Ganguly that Indian started winning matches abroad. By the time of Dhoni, the Australian team had considerably weakened, and by the time of Rohit-Kohli it had become a shadow of its former self.

Anyway, this is one of the most exciting test series in the cricket calendar. And Rishabh Pant will be missed. Here is the reason:

Yay, only if we had a couple of seamers, similar to the current lot. Only then we could have won more away wins not only in Australia but other SENA countries too. Batting and Spin department was always good for us.

Dhoni's number went up because I guess he captained only 1 series in Australia and the result was 4-0. We were belted by Aussie throughout the series.

Its good to see Zimbabwe back in test format. I was reading that there is no DRS in this series, its mainly due to lack of international cricket in Zimbabwe. With time as more international cricket will be played in Zimbabwe we will see wold class facilities.
To avail DRS facility, they need to shell out $60,000 per Test match and i really believe that the Zimbabwe Cricket board does not want to spent that much amount to avail those facility as they wont be getting that kind of revenue for a game and their financial condition is not that great either.

Even in this match, there were some close decisions that the umpire has not given out and hopefully we will not see further blunders.

DRS facility is very recently introduced in cricket before that cricket decisions are mostly dependent on field third umpire. It is good to see Zimbabwe playing test matches once again and with time they will definatly get reveue to avail DRS facility. For the moment we must be happy that once a strong test team is back in test format after a gap of decade.
Tagenarine Chanderpaul must be happiest guy as he has scored double century in this test match. Kraigg Brathwaite would be disappointed to miss his double century by just 18 runs.

His third test yielded a double century. It must be in the genes. A century is scored by Tagenarine Chanderpaul, following in the footsteps of his father. There will be many more to come. A chance for young players to grow and mature in West Indies cricket would be great. There seems to be a tendency for the West Indies cricket board to choose players when their careers are almost midway through or just about to end. It is unacceptable to engage in such practices in sports. All talented players should have access to opportunities in cricket, just as they do in all sports.

In West Indies, most of the players give preference to T20 format, because this is where the money lies. And as a result their performance in test cricket has gone down. And that hasn't translated to better performance in ODI/T20I as well. It is almost confirmed that West Indies will not get direct entry to this year's ODI World Cup. They need to take part in the qualifier tournament, along with teams such as Scotland and Namibia. Such a sad state for a team that won the initial two editions of the ODI World Cup (1975 and 1979).

Tagenarine Chanderpaul is different from the other players. From the start of his career, he gave test cricket a higher priority compared to limited overs format. He has the potential to become someone like Steve Smith or Joe Root, if he performs consistently. But unfortunately, in terms of money he will not be able to achieve much unless he focus on the limited overs variant as well.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul has got such a good start to his test career. At this point, he has scored 367 runs from 3 tests, at an average of 91.75 (obviously inflated by the performance against Zimbabwe). He is just 26 years old and therefore has a chance to become a test legend like his father. But then, West Indies cricket is always a messy place, with their race and religion based selection policies (they were the first to do that, even before South Africa). Talented players such as Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ravindranath Rampaul were at the receiving end of these policies. And as long as it remains, West Indies cricket will continue with its downslide.

Sports should never be judged on the basis of caste or religion. These things are very common in India, Bangladesh, South Africa, and West Indies. But the South African team has come out of this problem. However, such problems can still be seen in the West Indies.
On the other hand, the problem of Bangladesh and India is somewhat different. They screen players based on religion. I have seen in several news that Mohammad Siraj in the Indian team has been a victim of trolls a few days back. Also, if a Muslim player does not play well, he is trolled badly. I have seen the same thing in Bangladesh. If Liton Das or Soumya Sarkar don't play well, they get trolled badly. And these trolls are made only because they are a minority.
