This is why he is known as Sir Jadeja. First he showed how good he can bowl and now after his half century he again proved India will need him in both test and ODI format. Axar Patel again doing his best as a batter. The confidence this guy has on himself shows with the amount of balls he has taken to score 37 runs. I think he is eyeing a half century and most probably he would get it. I still believe 150 is a good target but anything beyond it is a bonus.

Although the Australian batsmen did not play well, the performance of the Indian batsmen was outstanding. They have already collected 312 runs after losing 7 wickets. Able to take a lead of 135 runs. Probably India will be able to take a lead of 170-180 runs very easily. And the entire match is now under India's control.
Rohit Sharma got off to a brilliant start with 120 runs. Now the partnership of Jadeja and Axar Patel is leading India to big collections. Jadeja scored 60 runs unbeaten and Patel scored 49 runs.

I reckon a target of 150 would be good enough for India.
With depressing KL, Kohli and SKY in middle. I don't want to see 100+ runs chase in the 4th inning.

India needs a minimum of 100 runs lead, 130 would be preferable and anything over 150 runs lead is game over for Australia.

~snip~
Although they played well, but even then India's performance in the match was not as expected.
Individually some players failed but as a team, India is doing okay be it bowling or batting.

Indian middle order made a match bit interesting for a while but this new partnership should calm the nerve in the Indian dressing room.

Safe to say Iyer will replace SKY in the next match, given he's completely fit and if not then Gill should get a game in the middle order.

Also won't be a bad idea if they push KL, Kohli and SKY down to lower order and replace them with Ash-Jaddu-Axar or even with Bharat.   Grin
Although they played well, but even then India's performance in the match was not as expected. I thought they could do the same here as they scored high against New Zealand.
But among India's top order batsmen in this match, none other than Rohit Sharma could perform well and Virat Kohli was out with only 12 runs. But for the last-order batsmen, India is able to increase their score a little in the match and now Ravindra Jadeja has completed his half-century.  All things considered, for the poor performance of Australia's  in first innings , they may have to lose this Test match.

As usual Indian middle order has been the same for all the formats. The opener or the lower middle order always comes to the rescue whenever the team needs it. Shreyas Iyer is fit and most probably SKY would be replaced by him in the next test match. At the moment the match is looking interesting.

Rohit out after a long stand. I was hoping him to score 150 but the pitch is looking pretty bad. It is not at all easy for a batter to play comfortably on this pitch. I reckon a target of 150 would be good enough for India.

In the 1st Test match between these two teams India vs Australia, India has put in a great performance to bat today. India scored 223 runs in 77 overs. And India has lost 5 wickets so far. But India batsman Rohit Sharma scored the highest runs in the match. He scored 117 runs off 204 balls.  KL Rahul did not bat well in this match. It is really difficult for India fans to accept that a good batsman like Virat Kohli will perform poorly in every match.

This is completely unexpected. Todd Murphy gets his 4th test wicket on debut, as he ousts Virat Kohli for just 12 runs. So far Rohit Sharma has stood like a pillar on one end, and he is rapidly approaching his century. But none of the other batsmen have been able to give him any support so far. Suryakumar Yadav has come out to bat, and this is his test debut as well. BTW, the captaincy from Pat Cummins have been below par so far. Scott Boland has bowled well (9-4-7-0), but Cummins seems to be reluctant to give him extended spells. Instead he is sticking with Lyon from the other end.

Todd Murphy is having a good outing so far and he has picked up his third wicket in the form of Cheteshwar Pujara. He has figures of 15-2-35-3 at this point, while Nathan Lyon has 20-4-66-0 to his name. The two relatively inexperienced bowlers (Todd Murphy and Scott Boland) have so far stood out among the Australian attack and this is the first time that they are playing against India. On the other hand, the Indian batsmen are handling Cummins and Lyon with relative ease. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli at the crease. Australia need some quick wickets now.
Some quick wickets is must for Australia at this point to be on the safer side. Based on the performance from Rohit Sharma it looks like he's playing only the confident shots. On the other side Virat have slowly begun his scoring, and by the end of the day atleast we should see score above 300 runs. Todd Murphy is playing good, same as the Indian spinners spin bowling is giving hands to Australia team.

Before the start of this first test match between India and Australia, i had a gut feeling that India will preform better than Australian and the only reason was that the match was being played at Indian soil.
India always have the advantage when playing at home but to fold Australia for 177 runs when they won the toss and then elected to bat first and then for India to dismiss on to a low score is not common. Ravindra Jadeja was not in the picture due to injury and bang he is back with a 5 wicket haul and with Ashwin in the mix they are the best spin combo in the world and the best all rounders in the game today.
It is unlikely that India will end their innings with very few runs. Australia's first innings collection is only 177 runs. And India lost their first wicket by 76 runs. India's collection at the end of the first day is 77/1. Rohit Sharma is batting with responsibility and remains unbeaten with 56 runs. The squad also has talented players like Pujara, Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav. My guess is India will be able to collect at least 220 runs. But if India is able to take a lead of more than 100 then India's chances of winning this match will increase.

It is a good start for team India. While the Australian team stumbled in the beginning, the opening pair of the Indian team played very well. Australia lost the wickets of their two openers for just 2 runs. But India's opening pair collected 76 runs. They have performed very well. Now if India's experienced middle order is able to perform a bit better and not face any batting disaster then India can easily collect 300 runs. It seems that India will win this match.
I think pitch was little bit friendly for spinner as compared fast and due to that reason most of wicket taker was spinner, but anyway they play phenomenal against strong batting lineup of Australia, unfortunately Australia hasn't alot spinner which may put indian batter in trouble, now Indian has 2 wicket down on 130 runs in 42 overs, but the Captain Rohit take his responsibility and still on a crease unbeated with 77* runs hope he will get his century soon, while still India has long batter lineup hope they will chase the target and will give a huge lead of around 300 which may really increase the winning chances of indian team.
Despite being a good team in Australia they are not able to perform well against India they scored only 177 runs against India in the first test match where India completed 151 runs for just 3 wickets and they are expected to cross at least 300 runs so India in the first test match  Will be able to score 2x runs as Australia.  So it will be more difficult for Australia in the next match as it will be almost impossible for them to recover today's runs and clash with the Reds in the next match.

Finally the Australians managed to get Ravichandran Ashwin out, but he had scored 23 by then. Todd Murphy gets his second international wicket in his debut. So far the two inexperienced bowlers (Todd Murphy and Scott Boland) are the ones who looked more threatening from the Australian bowling attack. Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara are at the crease and they are being a bit cautious now. The more experienced Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon have gone wicketless and so far they didn't looked threatening at any point of time.

In the first innings, Labuschagne missed his half-century for only one run, which was genuinely sad. But it was actually a little funny how does Australian team be unable to actually put up any fight against the Indian bowlers. I find that funny because, after a few months, they are going to come to India to play in the world cup. Even though that is going to be ODI.

In defense of KL Rahul, I am going to say that he actually tried to hold on to the wicket from one side. And he left the other person, Rohit Sharma do all the scoring. Rohit Sharma was hitting the ball everywhere. So, I did not think that KL Rahul needed to accelerate. 9 fours and 1 six for Rohit Sharma so far.
Wasn't that surprising for me. I was expecting that the Australian batsmen would crumble against Indian spin attack. IMO, they have just two batsmen who have the capability to handle Indian spinners - Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne. But both of them failed to get to a 50 yesterday and got out in unnecessary manner. In case of Labuschagne, he looked confident out there and I was quite disappointed when he got out to the bowling of Jadeja. And as expected, none of the other batsmen provided any resistance and folded up without a fight.

It was assumed earlier that the pitch will be spin-friendly. Australian team management should have considered this in their squad formation. Also, Australia's batsmen are experienced enough. Had they batted with some responsibility they would have been able to collect more than 250 easily. On such pitches, the aim of the players should be to stay at the crease. But Australia's batting line-up collapsed badly. If the Indian batsmen somehow manage to score 300 runs then they will surely win. I guess in the second innings as well we will see a stupid performance from the Australian batsmen.

Never expected Australia to produce such a dismal performance in the 1st innings. India will comfortably win this one at this rate.
But I was expecting such pathetic performance from Australia in the first test match. I won't be surprised if India can end the first innings with a big lead and win the match by an innings. SENA countries always struggle when Asian countries team make a spin friendly pitch.

Test cricket is a game of mouse and cat.

When you think you are getting top of the opposition, something exciting happens. India took 2 early wickets and the Indians were on top, then Smith-Clone Marnus happened and Aussie were back in the game. Exactly after that, Sir Jadeja showed his class and at the same period of time a nice cameo from Handscomb and Carrey. Their inning is still not finished so India must look to quick wrap up under 200 as they are batting last and it won't be a cakewalk.

We couldn't t ask for a better start to BGT. I hope we'll see a same fight between Indian batters and Australian bowlers.
It was interesting at times, but then the outcome of the match was decided in the first say itself. The burden was on the shoulders of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne, but they couldn't convert the good starts which they got. Once they got out, it was all over for the Australians. I was not expecting much from the Australian bowlers, and things went ahead as per the expectation. I would be surprised, if Australia doesn't lose this test match by an innings. Given the presence of Ashwin and Axar in the team, it is possible for India to put up a total of 500 plus.
While I have nothing to say about today play, Aussies are bundled out without any resistance which was expecting specially after having wickets of Marnus and Smith things looking out of the way for them, and they can go down without any trouble because first day play is already given all impression how things could be happened in coming days as well and tally of wickets for Ashwin, Jadeja and Axar are going to be amazing, and they are going to have good start of 2023 while we can expect good performance from these in throughout year.

With whom is going to lead from front in batting this all will be clear because mostly Aussies bowlers are going to have the worst time and their tally is going to be more troubled after this tour of India and lost of BGT again with India going to win 5th time in a row.
