Tezos, a network protocol specializing in secure, future-proof smart contract systems, has been given a share of Polychain Capital’s $10 million digital currency fund. The fund, whose limited partners include Andreessen Horowitz and Union Square Ventures, was first announced in December of 2016, and has also backed MakerDAO and Golem.
Founded by Arthur Breitman and Kathleen Breitman, Tezos is an independent smart contract platform built as an alternative to Ethereum. It focuses on transparency, security and governance by consensus as fundamental design goals. As such, all code is independently verifiable and includes integrated mechanisms for users to transparently decide on and implement upgrades to the Tezos system itself. When protocol changes need to be made, Tezos implements voting rights with its built-in consensus mechanism. This enables upgrades to be seamlessly integrated into the protocol with complete transparency.

Tezos seems to have a lot of common points with Tau.
@arthurb: can you confirm if the core language is total functional and if it remains expressive enough to perform more general programming? If it's not, how do you prove mathematically that core protocol operations will always be well behaved and terminate for all input sets?

Following...

This is the real kind of project! Working for so long before presenting to the community.
Nowadays, a lot are just launched utilizing walletbuilders or just copy & paste platform.
Very rare that you can encounter genuine project that are not after for the fast cash.

Having Tezos under review since the Webside is up. For me a ballbreaking project, one of the most interest I have ever seen in Blockchain.

Great you getting close to the finishing line Arthur!

Hi all, I'm heading the Tezos project. A few things about the project

 - We have real on-chain decentralized governance, i.e. we can upgrade the entire protocol without hard forks.
 - We support smart-contracts with a functional, statically typed language which we design specifically for formal verification. We presented it recently at the Stanford blockchain conference and the video should be online soon.
 - We're starting with a delegated proof-of-stake consensus model
 - We are headed for a crowdsale around late Q1, early Q2 2017.

We've been fairly discreet for the past few years quietly building our technology (our source code is available on Github). We did not want to go to a crowdsale without an actual working product. We're not a fork of any project, we built the entire thing from scratch in OCaml.

I'd be happy to answer questions about the project!

P.S. we're also looking to contract with translators and community manager.
