To be honest, legalizing gambling is quite complicated by looking at the impact that will come to society, even though some of the funds obtained by the government are used for anti-addiction service institutions, it is not necessarily effective, the most difficult thing to calculate is how the public stigma about gambling.

I don't think it's complicated though, government could have done their study on whether legalizing gambling is going to be good or bad. And in this case, I'm inclined that they did see more pros of it that's why they approved. And perhaps they have steps or plan already in place if ever there the number of gambling addicts are going to increased. They will have to build rehab facilities for that.

Whether it is because of its advantages or because they are forced to make this decision, because the people have already adopted gambling in their lives, it is based on the losses that the government gets because the people are actively gambling, so the last step that can be taken is that they have to accept gambling as a means for them to benefit from gambling itself, so as not to lose too much.

This is what can affect people's actions in gambling, if the stigma of gambling is only as a place of entertainment then it is likely that people will not always gamble, but if people think gambling is an alternative to seeking side income this will be a serious disaster for people who have that mindset.

It's already has a stigma, but perhaps the money that they can generate thru gambling is very big that Thailand is really willing to go 100%. And the government should be in top of everything here, in my opinion and again they have contingency for such disaster and maybe all corners have been covered by them and that they are ready to embraced all the stigma and negativity that will come their way.

The thing that makes us blind is that we don't know how much profit the community gets if it's talking financially, and the simple logic is that casinos can't possibly give alms to every gambler, but if everyone already knows the risks, it is their own choice why they gamble.

From all decisions there must be negative and positive impacts, and as the government needs to be wise in taking the right steps of consideration, because when talking about benefits there must be risks that may arise among the public, such as gambling responsibly, addiction and other things that might arise among the public massively because they feel that gambling has been legalized in their country.

Maybe setting a limit on the amount of money spent on each person who gambles will help a little to keep gamblers from spending money they can't lose on gambling, some regulations must be detailed and able to minimize the risks that may occur when gambling is legalized, because it will definitely get a lot of consumers.
The government can facilitate and address the problem of gambling addiction by budgeting a portion of its gambling revenue to certain departments. Because of course there are consequences, but this is the government's effort to eradicate the illegal gambling mafia which basically does not benefit the state at all. Only some government officials feel the benefits, while the state suffers the consequences. But I also wouldn't say that the decision to legalize gambling is a wise decision if it doesn't take into consideration various stages.

There is no doubt that legalizing gambling has some disadvantages for individuals who will find it easy to engage in gambling activity without limits, which will make it easier for them to fall into addiction. But let's ask two important questions:

> Are these people really prohibited from gambling before the activity becomes legal? I do not think so, because the practice of gambling has become easier with the development of technology, especially after the integration of crypto, as no one is anymore forced to use fiat money or bank accounts that can be tracked. Thailand is aware of this and therefore preferred to make it legal to benefit from it instead of fighting a technology that can no longer be controlled.

> Is the state required to take into account the health consequences of any activity it legislates? I don't think so either otherwise she should bring up the use of cigarettes and alcohol as well. Perhaps it is possible to demand the provision of health facilities to deal with sick cases (given that addiction is a disease), but this may not be a priority at the current time.

This decision is very appropriate in my opinion, where in a position the government cannot eradicate gambling, the more appropriate step to get the best solution is to take steps to regulate gambling, this is to control gambling in the country and get taxes from gambling activities.

Illegal gambling is troubling especially since it has no contribution to the state, the amount of profit made by casino players in Thailand shows that there is a positive response from the community to accept gambling in their country as a means of seeking pleasure or other things according to individual needs.

But as we know that gambling can also have a negative impact on people who are impulsive in gambling, this will be a big problem if most people cannot gamble responsibly, of course the government needs to have a strategy so that gambling is not misdirected in the consumption of its people.
I hope that this issue will be resolved quickly in Thailand, because tourists who come to this country would like to play there legally, and there are a lot of such people. Thanks to them, Thailand has already received huge investments, and if it becomes a gambling hub, then the influx of money that tourists bring there will be even greater than it was before.

As we see, in any situation, be it taxes or gambling, you need to act very quickly and flexibly, be able to adapt to modern trends, otherwise every day of delay will be a day that does not bring additional funds to the budget. This is an interesting topic for me, I hope this issue will be resolved quickly.
Of course tourists who like to gamble will come to Thailand to play there, as well as very interesting tourism in Thailand will definitely be more crowded, the government can get more money apart from gambling taxes, but maybe various investments from gambling entrepreneurs and for the development of tourism there will be very interesting in the future.

Yes, hopefully this is indeed good news in the country of Thailand, and quickly resolved to regulate all the rhythms of the regulation, because if there are some improper regulations that will harm both gambling entrepreneurs and the government, this may need some in-depth prior studies to solidify the final decision.
If everything develops well in this industry, then gambling tourism will flourish and there will be too many players. We must take into account the experience of Las Vegas and Macau and what risks this poses for those around them and the people living there. Surely there will be an increase in the number of people who will not be able to stop and will lose all their money, so much so that they will not even have enough for a return plane ticket and they may become homeless and beggars near the casino. I don’t want to say that this will definitely happen, but looking 2 steps ahead is also a very smart decision than looking for difficult solutions after problems arise.

Well, for the country where gambling is legalized, it contributes in generating  revenue for the country through the tax that those casinos are paying. With the new enacted law in some country according to news,  some country made it compulsory for gamblera to pay tax too. So, gambling is really generating revenue and it's  not a bad idea at all that the prime minister of Thailand decided to approve gambling  in the country. The idea  is not to only stop illegal gambling, definitely the government will big in  a big advantage too, because those casinos will be taxed.  I don't even know the reason why any country will ban gambling, meanwhile it's a fun activity that can benefit the country.

True gambling industry both generates tax revenue from the gambling host and gamblers which is very favorable to the government.  Aside from these taxes, they also generates jobs to the citizen from the infrastructure construction to customer service jobs which in addition creates more tax to the government.

What is more appealing is that many gambling companies pledge donations to charity institutions which further help support people who are in need.  In my country, the gambling industry is one of the major supporters of charity institutions.  They provide donations and financial support to people who need funding for their medical care and many other stuff.

You are very correct, my friend. It also creates job opportunities for some people in the country and therefore makes it possible for the government to still take "income tax" from the casino employees. Some casinos sometimes help to support the national football club, and that is really a lot of help, if you ask me. The advantage of allowing casinos to legally operate freely in every country cannot be overemphasized. It is very advantageous, but the reason why some countries ban it is because some individuals can get addicted and waste money unnecessarily on it, so the government is trying to protect consumers too.

Making it legal does two things:
1. allows the government to tax your winnings in a legal manner, all your wins for that matter.
2. stops random illegal gambling clubs to stop or run legally.

The government is usually looking for taxation and these sections are the places where they can tax and greedily get away with the money without problems than increasing the number of people paying tax.

Dont think that the government cares so much about the citizens gambling habits. It is never the case, just like with legalizing weed and so on.

That's right, the government's strong reason for legalizing gambling is to collect taxes from every gambling platform and offline casino which ofcourse will be taxed. Although they have reasons to fight against illegal gambling but still, their main focus is taxation. Because after all, it doesn't matter if gambling will be legalized because of course there will always be illegal gambling that can still operate. So yes, the point is about taxation, because the income from gambling will of course be very large, so the government will take part of this industry.

I read an article about Thailand's Prime Minister planning to legalize gambling in order to combat illegal gambling.  He also stated that the illegal gambling operation are earning trillions of baht but are not contributing to the nation.  Read more about the news here:
Thai PM: Legalise gambling to tackle existing illegal gambling

I believe the Thai PM realized that they are losing for not making gambling legal in their country.  I believe it is not to combat the illegal gambling but rather to take advantage of the gambling activities to get more taxes to fund the country's treasury.  It was said that if gambling is legalized the country might bring an amount ranging from TBH30B to TBH50B (US$0.8bn to US$1.3bn) in investments to the country aside from the annual taxes that can be earned from gambling industries.

I also think that it is a wise decision on the PM side since it is impossible to stop gambling, so why not take advantage of it for the country's development?  Your thought?

          -   As far as I can see from what the prime minister did, it was right that he made it legal. Maybe he saw that the authorities of his country were having a hard time suppressing it, and he also found out that illegal gambling is really making a lot of money. He saw it as an opportunity that their government can benefit a lot if they make it legal.

Because it would be a big help if it became legal because of the taxes they can get if these gambling businesses operating in their country earn trillions of baht, so the decision he made is fine.

Thailand itself is a country that is known through the television media as quite an active gambling country and more over I believe there is no country that completely moderate the need to gamble of their citizens, instead the citizens actually look for other measure and method to actually gamble and so them actually making a step to legalize the whole would be off benefits to them as a government too because they would be able to tax and make lots of revenue from it.

There are always two sides to consider rather than just state income. If countries really want to legalize gambling - then they must also consider how to deal with the impact of gambling which will likely only increase since it is legalized.

I have even heard that a country that has legalized gambling is campaigning to no longer allow gambling promotion in public and is also limiting the amount of budget that gambler can use each month. The positive is of course good for state revenue - but the negative is that the impact of gambling is likely to increase rapidly and need appropriate handling.

If you do not let your citizens to gamble, you are only deceiving yourself because gambling is in the nature of humans. That is why you will see the citizens of the countries where gambling is not legal going to foreign gambling sites to gamble. It is good that Thailand government see this now and know that they should legalize gambling and generate tax from it. Buddhism religion do not totally forbids gambling while they do not also totally support it.

There are lot of people who live their life without gambling at all irrespective of whether they are in a country where gambling is legal or not so we can't normalize everyone is gambling but with the evolution of technology it reached into the palms of everyone so accessing it from there is their own decision which can be influenced or manipulated that's a different issue.

Thailand is a country relies more on tourism to generate revenue so for such countries allowing anything possible is going to generate money but countries made it illegal for other reasons can still survive without generating that revenue but we also can't deny where gambling is illegal there will be unregulated gambling business will starts to evolve.

I had the same thought while reading this post. It's foolish for them to be watching people gamble on their backs silently and they aren't earning anything from the wins and losses of those people because gambling isn't legal within the country and the platforms are operating illegally and discretely. If they make gambling legal, there will be legal and licensed platforms that people can use for their gambling activities and the government can tax both the casinos and the players annually for their wins and revenues.

This is also the case in our country. Gambling is illegal here due to a lot of reasons but we know that a lot of people are still involved in gambling because there are mobile applications that people use for gambling where they fund their accounts with mobile wallets and withdraw the money in the same way as well.

Take a look at my merits, It's lucky number
in fact in these countries the only way to regulate this is to legalize it so as not to give the possibility to any mafias or illegal activities to proliferate within the state, then we know well how prohibitionism works, we know how it went in America with alcohol and in Europe whoever limits something then people will always find a way to do it illegally so that's why they would do better to make it legal and regulate the money flows of these activities

Yes, you're right, the only way is to legalize it, this was also related to Bitcoin (BTC) in the past. Currently the majority of countries & central banks legalize Bitcoin (BTC), but look at what it used to be like? they even made a ban on crypto. This also happens in our country regarding crypto, although it is not legal tender in our country, but here crypto is legal as an asset that can be traded. Governments don't want to lose the opportunity to get profit from this huge influx, and therefore they legalize cryptocurrencies and make them legal.

I think the reason why the prime minister is taking such a huge step in legalizing gaming to to make sure that gamblers start paying taxes including gambling companies would must have been operating at the back and not allowing the government knows that they are functioning. This might be a good innovation per say if this is not going to increase criminal activities and make people start doing more to gambler increasing individual addiction especially when they could not have control of their gambling decisions or gambling too excessively.
The gambling industry is growing very rapidly over time and many people are starting to touch this industry regardless of what gambling regulations are in a country. The increasing growth of illegal gambling basically provides no benefit to the government at all, although it should be remembered that the flow of funds from this gambling also goes to the accounts of corrupt officials. It is indeed good if the country legalizes gambling and makes strict regulations for every gambler, but I am aware that there will most likely be negative impacts due to the legalization of gambling.

Maybe a deeper study needs to be done regarding the legality of gambling, but I don't know for sure whether Thailand has legalized it since the news was broadcast. The increase in criminal activity and various financial impacts among gamblers will be consequences that the government needs to consider in this case, meaning that they cannot ignore the impacts caused by legality.

AFAIK, every citizen of this country  for once in  their  life  were in in gambler's shoes.  Why PM should not be in their class.
