For business, There are no eternal rivals, apple vs Samsung? but apple still buy disply from Samsung, so for ebay or paypal, they can find a way cooperate with bitcoin in an certain form, that will make them not out of market totally, just like mircorsoft bought 2% of facebook to prevent other competitors.

Interesting thing with that secure bracelet, but it won't work. During a mugging situation, won't your heart rate increase due to flight or fight? Your heart rate is not as similar as a fingerprint.

As long as all currencies included in the Paypal list, the BTC currency can also be included.

 Cool

It really is as simple as that.
but that would make paypal act as a bitcoin wallet. why will people use paypal for btc then?

Just as they act as a USD wallet... and a EUR wallet...

The biggest complain I see about bitcoin is scammers. Which isn't so much a complaint about bitcoin as it is a complaint about doing business directly p2p without an intermediary. Paypal becomes that intermediary, and bitcoin becomes safe to use (as safe as USD via Paypal). The second biggest complaint is that it's hard to use/understand. Paypal solves both of those as well, for those willing to pay the fees associated with using btc in the paypal system.

BUT, we won't see this until paypal sees the profit (not the utility) in it.

Glad to see this change. It's about time that these guys got on board. Donahoe seems like a smart, forward-thinking guy so this comes as no surprise. Marcus is big on Bitcoin or so I've read, with a big stake in BTC.

Bitcoin will be mainstream when people are using Bitcoin without even realising it.

The Bitcoin Foundation STRONGLY recommends...
That each of you set up a Cold Wallet by...

(a) loading Linux onto a (b) virgin laptop after (c) disabling WiFi.

Oh, nevermind.

eBay... the Company that called Bitcoin the currency for "hackers and scammers" or something to that effect not long ago.

like everyone in this thread I'm kind of skeptical about this, Bitcoin is a direct competitor to paypal technology wise, so implementing bitcoin directly to ebay will have negative effect on paypal, so the only I'm seeing this working is that bitcoin would be implemented to paypal, and paypal will be a proxy or rather an exchange platform that will have fees to keep them making profit, while paypal is good when you are using ebay as it offer some level of protection the costs are still pretty high imo

...why should they risk mixing their existing business systems that smell like roses (due to all the $$$ they spent and spend) with a system like bitcoin that is still unproven and has an uncertain reputation? If Paypal/Amazon/WU added serious bitcoin support into their systems, they'd risk "poisoning" their existing payment infrastructure with something that might get negative attention from regulators.

You are correct. They will not adopt until either a) the begin to lose market share that they can gain back (or slow the loss of) by incorporating bitcoin or b) they think it's inevitable that others will adopt, causing "a" to occur, and attempt to be first to market.
they are loosing market slowly but sure if they dont embrase bitcoin

They are going to be extremely careful before they get on board, that's just the way it is.

Everyone wondering why PayPal/Amazon/WesternUnion like praising bitcoin but refuse to commit any resources to it...

...it's very simple: These companies all invested enormous capital building a legal framework that allowed them to establish their payment systems back in the 80s/90s. Paypal, for all intents and purposes is now considered 100% "legit", and the lobbying and legal fees that were spent to get to that point were extensive. They probably totally realize how innovative bitcoin is and would love to capture the bitcoin market, but...

A Great Time to Start Something!
Bitcoin will be mainstream when people are using Bitcoin without even realising it.
When we've got wearable tech that stores our crypto wealth and detects the unique fingerprint that is our heartbeat pattern, that's when crypto will be mainstream.

Take off the bracelet, and your wallet is locked. Your money can't be touched unless your heartbeat is detected.

...

THE END OF MUGGING. Theft as we know it will be obsolete. That's the future of money. That's what mainstream cryptocurrency looks like.

I like your optimistic look at the future. Sadly, some desperate crook will drug their victim and transfer funds while their heart is still beating.
Still it's a pretty good upgrade over paper trash money.
