Then The Bitcoin Foundation will flounder and fail afterwards I bet.

That would be reason enough to celebrate IMO. No idea why people think we need some sort of 'body' to give us credence (not that they actually do).

@OP: Maybe if Bitcoin gets big enough (ie a large enough userbase) but I'm not expecting that this will happen anytime soon. Bitcoin poses a threat to PP so I'm sure they'd weigh up the cost of supporting a competitor against the value of a larger userbase.

I can guarantee that if PayPal enters Bitcoin, that BitPay will be finished.

Tony Gallippi won't be to pleased with this. There goes his $30 million that Bitpay just raised. Then The Bitcoin Foundation will flounder and fail afterwards I bet.

Good or bad? Hmm...

probably his move will be integrating bitcoin into paypal.

That is definitely not the case. Just a few weeks ago, Paypal was banning its users and freezing their funds for trading in Bitcoins. Such hostile attitude means that Paypal remains scared of Bitcoin.

It's possible that Paypal integrates some bitcoin feature. Maybe acceptance and exchange.

But in the end Bitcoin will render Paypal obsolete. So all of ebay's efforts to stay in the money transmitter business will be in vain. Of cause not before they've introduced some more annoying features that restrict bitcoins use to serve their profit.

Bitcoin will be the end of Paypal. Quote me on that.

We hope, but I wouldn't be so sure. Plus, Bitcoin is always going to need payment processors so they'd be wise to try and accommodate it or even create their own 'bitpal' or something.

Don't pay any attention to people posting bullshit if they don't provide any source or evidence.

Do a couple of seconds of research and you'll see it's not bullshit, but it's not as exciting as the headline makes out.

i think the ceo is just saying they are thinking about implementing bitcoin because they want to erase their negative publicity and anger from their customers over them (ebay/paypal) banning bitcoin. they wont be implementing it unless its kicking and screaming.

Even if that's the case,  the BTC community will be very pleased that any organization that is powerful with big name like eBay will say that it just keep BTC in mind cause that could make a large change in the trust of who not believe in the BTC and by that rise of new business that believe in that coin and wanna earn it for a future use in eBay

John Donahoe ,the CEO of eBay told the shareholders yesterday that the company is considering intergrating bitcoin and PayPal actively .

Source please?

I don't believe this, where's the source?

Currently ebay and paypal are taking down anything bitcoin related, now all of a sudden they welcome it with open arms?

Carl Davis, Jr of the Silicon Valley Black Chamber of Commerce asked Donahoe what he thought of Bitcoin in regards to global trade. The CEO called it a new, exciting and emerging technology. "We think Bitcoin will play a very important role in the future. Exactly how that plays out, and how we can best take advantage of it and enable it with PayPal, that's something we're actively considering. It's on our radar screen."

John Donahoe ,the CEO of eBay told the shareholders yesterday that the company is considering intergrating bitcoin and PayPal actively .When talking about bitcoin potentiality on the global ,he responded that digital currency will play an important role in the future .
Donahoe said ,he cant imagine how bitcoin to be a more mainstream technology .eBay is considering joining in digital currency directly .
It’s not the first time that Donahoe talks about his interest in bitcoin .Last year ,he said he may add bitcoin payment option to PayPal .But this time he is more active than the past .In 2013,eBay is only searching for digital currency .He said ,I have spent much time researching it .It’s fascinating ,including its design and mining .
Attentively ,Donahoe latest opinion is not from his individual angle but the company .
Donahoe is not the only one Senior manager in eBay .Last year ,David Marcus ,the CEO of PayPal claimed that he is the fans of digital currency and will join in bitcoin payment option one day .
Though bitcoin payment option hasn’t been intergrated temporarily ,eBay has begun digital currency activity .At the beginning of April ,its website adds “virtual currency”sign ,allowing clients to buy and sell digital currency ,mining hardware and contract .However ,the company only revises some original parts but not advocates it strongly .
In addition ,According to the patent application on December ,2011,eBay is planning to build up a new digital currency payment system ,including bitcoin .Meanwhile ,it will develop different kinds of digital currency wallets .
