Just got back from India!  The trip was everything I had hoped it would be and more. The women's conference we hosted was so well received that by the third night we had about 1000 women in attendance and they were so touched by us doing that for them.  We also hosted a medical camp with food distribution for 350 lepers.  So hard to believe that leprosy is still a problem in some parts of the world.  We put in water wells, two at elementary schools and the others at little village churches.  We visited orphanages, a home for women bought out of the sex trade, and elderly homes. Everywhere we went we were treated like celebrities there.  I guess it is unusual for blond women to walk around there.  Just smiling and shaking their hands or giving the women a hug made some of them tear up.   It was so humbling.  There is still plenty of needs there.  This particular organization is really growing and working on building more colleges to provide education and a chance for a better life for the children in that area.  If anyone is interested in donating I highly recommend going to www.harvestindia.org and checking it out.  They do not waste any funds from what I observed and the money received really impacts people that desperately need it. It really is shocking the standard of living there compared to what we have in the United States.  Something as simple as a clean public restroom is not even available even in the cities.  I foolishly thought that there would at least be Mcdonalds sprinkled throughout the cities we were in.  In Hyderabad I did see a few, but not in Vijiwada or Tenali.

What was interesting is that everyone appears to have cell phones.  Many vendors do not take credit cards and Bitcoin could be a huge help to the people in these villages if they were introduced to it.  It will be interesting to go back there in a few years and see if things have changed in payments there from what it is now.

I am leaving today for India!  Thank you so much Risto for your contribution towards this trip! I will pray your generous gift will be rewarded 100X!  We will be there 13 days and we are installing 7 water well throughout parts of Andrah Pradesh, hosting a medical camp and providing food clothing for a colony of people suffering from leprosy, and hosting a large women's conference for 500 women.  I am singing a song for them in Telugu called Sada Kalamuu Neto Nenu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f889BequyzQ. I will also be speaking a bit there too.  I am even going to tell the founder of Harvest India to check out Unocoin and look into taking some Bitcoin donations.

See you in a couple weeks!   Smiley

Much blessing for your trip! Funny that you also go to Andhra Pradesh, where I was on a mission trip exactly 10 years ago, in November 2004! Smiley

I have decided to pass my 1 btc that Risto Pietilä gave me on to the community. I would also like to throw in a little bit myself.

I would like to donate 500 mBTC to Andres Moreno, "Pruden" on this forum, who is running Sirius Iberia together with me, a Spanish Bitcoin broker service. He is one of the most honest and structured persons I know and I look forward to cooperating with him.
Thank you, socioSmiley I am humbled.

I would like to donate 200 mBTC to joesmoe2012 for the inspiring entrepeneurship he and others like him practice all over the world. 50 mBTC go back to Thorkil (Sword Smith) as token recognition to his unwaveringly sympathetic, honest and encouraging character, helping start businesses all over Europe as I speak.

The rest, 250 mBTC, I shall keep (1PWXzXgGPHKaiZcM2hZKgBkJz1LBVx6rCV) to help promote Sirius Iberia, whose effects should revert to the Bitcoin world as the first professional Bitcoin brokering firm in Spain.

I would also like to donate 500 mBTC to Vedran Kajic from Croatia, "bSpend" on this forum, whom I met in Copenhagen. He lived here for two weeks where he tried to survive on bitcoins only. He is working on a project of revolutionizing the bitcoin broker business in Croatia and I have made some contacts for him facilitating this (I can't tell yet, it is still a secret). I would like to support a growing Bitcoin interest in Croatia. Vedran also runs bSpend which is a bitcoin market place.

Last but not least, I would like to donate some bitcoins to the person that has given me the most contacts, given me a lot of awesome experience, and has presented me to a lot of economic and monetary theory. That guy is Risto Pietilä. Without him, I would never have met Andrés Moreno, Jeremias Kangas, Michael Dupree, Otto de Voogd and many others. Therefore I would like to donate 1 bitcoin to Risto Pietilä.

Thank you Risto for coming up with this great idea, and Sword Smith for the generous donation, I really appreciate it. Here is how I'd like to split up my 500 mBTC:

100 mBTC to Manfred Macx who is doing a great job helping to run http://crobitcoin.com Bitcoin news portal
50 mBTC to stick as I often use http://coinmap.org/
350 mBTC I'd like sent to myself ( 1B2VW51LweF2f74xo4bqvnGCdcByLCtX5i ) that I'll distribute accordingly: 200 mBTC will go to Klemo Vladimir (not registered on this forum), Bspend developer who himself doesn't have any bitcoins yet! 50 mBTC I'll give to Ivan Simurina (also not on the forum) who is helping promote Bitcoin in Croatia. 100 mBTC I'll use to pay a part of monthly http://www.bspend.com hosting

This is a welcome initiative to inject some kindness in this world (and I don't say this only because I am one of the prime recipient). So thank you Risto for starting this chain.

(updated after Risto's reply)

What I will do with this money:
  • 600 mBTC: for me, converted in XMR. This may looks like I am a greedy bastard, but this will be used that way:
    • 100 mBTC for myself - I'm considering buying half Monero and half NXT with them, or maybe 1/3 XMR, 1/3 NXT, 1/3 BTC - or maybe full XMR Smiley
    • 300 mBTC for taking care of family (1/3 to my mother, 1/3 to my sister, 1/3 to my brother). I will keep this part in my wallet until the official GUI wallet is released. Then I will give them their Moneroj, that will be their first steps into cryptocurrencies and hopefully in some years the beginning a better life
    • 200 mBTC to spread the word, i.e. someone I know IRL who doesn't know cryptocurrencies already, that I appreciate and whose quality of life would benefit from it. That will be my concierge, so that he learns about BTC and XMR and, hopefully one day, he won't have to be concierge for a living anymore. Here also, I will keep the money until the official GUI wallet is released.
  • 400 mBTC to thre Cryptolanders that I trust to continue the chain and at the same time would benefit from my help (could not find any)

BTC address: 1w8aCciZ6md67VpUMVfXKqrzZzjAyPAcA

Well I only got 80mBTC but I will keep 40mBTC to get monero and with the rest I will divide it equally between all the people who posted on my locked thread and wished me a happy birthday!
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=482813.0;all

All the people who wished me a happy birthday will receive an equal amount!
Also they must have their BTC address in their signature OR profile!

Thanks again for giving me the honor of beeing part of something this big!

I counted them and there are only 5 valid ones as for the 6th I don't know what it is Smiley
so 40mBTC will be split equally between them

Many thanks and much appreciated, I'm traveling atm and unfortunately don't have the time to delve in to this fascinating project, any donations that I receive I automatically send to a charity fund that I set up for a friend's kid who lost her dad, details on it can be found on my site linked from www.otoh.net

If I need to send half to two people instead then I would, in haste, choose first Goat as PM-ing with him helped me elect to get in to LTC quite early on which has changed my financial life for the better more than anything up until now, I wish that I had more time to think about this and read it all, I will in a few weeks or so, for now my second choice would be Risto for all his giving back initiatives.

I'm not sure how the receiving of funds and allocating/resending works exactly, I guess that 100 mBTC is 0.1 BTC and I'll happily double this amount for my donations, sending 0.2 BTC to my charity or 0.1 BTC to it and then 0.05 BTC to Goat and 0.05 BTC to Risto.

I think the latter outcome is more according to the rules (one forum recipient would have sufficed).

As for me, I had sworn to myself that if I receive back, it will be used for cigars (where else do these wonderful ideas come from...?  Cheesy) but then I realized that Carlton Banks is a good solid guy and a voice of reason. So he will receive the 50mBTC that Otoh graciously gave me.

Thanks rp, it's good to receive the recognition more than any amount of money. It might not seem like I'm always around on the forum, as I try to limit my posting to my best original observations. I hope this means I'm choosing my moments well, seeing as you remembered someone who mostly lurks! And thanks also for drawing my attention to the thread, it's a great concept (and what a contrast it is to that which often appears on the forum). I will gladly accept the gift.

I'm going to draw up a list of people to continue the philanthropy, just trying to think of some overlooked recipients (there's no point giving to obvious people like the core development guys, they're probably at a level of bitcoin holdings where they'd only appreciate favors that money can't buy). There are a few forum handles making their way to the front of my mind, as soon as I've remembered a few I will post them + amounts here.

I will also donate to the QubesOS project, as they are making great progress in the field of computing security, and deserve some recognition, promotion, and not least, some funding. I strongly recommend using QubesOS for your online computing, in particular for secure use of bitcoin wallet software.

Edit: to stick to the true spirit of this thread, I'm donating to Qubes using the Armory donation matching scheme.

Wow! So much money has been gifted and people made happy! Smiley This makes me also happy. Sorry I haven't had the opportunity to update the table in the OP yet, since yesterday we started the Summer Retreat in Malla and the first day closed at about 11 am when people began to go to sleep after waiting for breakfast in vain for 2 hours (it was promised at 9 am but there were issues...)

If i forgot to send someone btc please leave me a note.

For myself i would like to donate 925 mBTC to Aleks N. (aleks648) to help him fund his Bitcoin related startup Xbterminal (xbterminal.io), it allows local shops/bars/restaurants to easily accept Bitcoins via NFC, i think all of us will profit if we can use Bitcoin in our daily life easier.

The remaining 75 mBTC i would like to donate to webbsy a talented graphic artist, may he buy beer and cigarets the next time i annoy him, which is prolly after he has read this.

Hey Thanks Othe, that's very kind!  We just demonstrated our terminal to the chancellor of the exchequer here in the UK and the govt just made a load of announcements about bitcoin and moving things forward in the UK, so hopefully we can repay the community kindness by getting our terminals out to as many merchants as possible so you guys can use BTC on a day to day basis.  Risto, if you would like one for the hotel then please let me know! 1LfLuR9EpGviKBhBPNe2h28VwiDscxcnCB is my address.

I'll be passing on 50mBTC to bengtåke and boristhespider for all the hard work earlier this year on VTC.

Thanks, aleks. I'll try to figure out what do with them.
