Many start gambling with the aim of increasing their initial capital or money at hand without doing any aggressive or muscle required work. This mostly end as another way of amusing oneself whether results are good or bad. The reason why we see people betting even when the odds are nothing to write home about. I rather see gambling these days as fun for most who engage actively in it.
I think in generally money is the most reason why people are like to gamble. They wants to earn or win easily if they lucky in gambling, and even if they get addicted, they ignore it, just to make money and this is the key reason why they gamble always.
Of course it is the money that is the key or sole motivation for gambling. There might be people who would claim that they gamble for joy and entertainment but that is a small portion of the whole population of gamblers. I think that it is money that motivates an individual to enter the world of gambling and make easy money rather than getting involved in businesses that require them to work hard.If you choose money is the key to gambling, then you need to prepare for losing your money because, in gambling, you will be hard to make money. You can make money only if you have luck so you will be able to make money from the game.
Many people motivate to chase the money because they hear from other people who can win in one game, but they don't know how much money that person lost before they can win much money. I think that is not worth it because no one will know how much he will spend the money before he can win big.

To start gambling you have to make a direction, I mean what is your interest and what is your side. If you make it them correctly when you start gambling then you will not fall to gambling addict. I saw a lot of people who fall to gambling addict are just because they didn't know something that should be fulfilled and something that should he leave. So, they play with a lot of burden until they keep spurred and spend lots of money for betting, with the result that they must try to replace all of money that he spend and finally they got addicted. Different with someone who play gambling and he start with makes a decision that gambling just for side income or side for entertainment then he will knows when he should stop to play. 
I realize this question was probably raised before, but I believe that the answers might be changing with time, because bitcointalk community grows and because the interests and needs of people can become different in years. I recall a video on addiction that explained that people mainly become addicted because of feeling sad and lonely. People gamble because this is the fastest way to earn money without doing hard work. And due to this mentality, many people have been coming towards gambling and as per the time, they make this thing to their full-time work for making money. Maybe as long we can control for what amount that we want to gamble i think it is not bad to do gambling when we are sad or happy. I mean people is different, maybe when they sad or maybe happy, as long it not make that people suffer, it is still safe to do.

Agree to your statement, we should have discipline on this action because it's very risky when you push it through, it might have a breakdown on your income when you lose. The most important thing is, gambling is one of the reason why people still buying btc except for trading. First time I got addicted just because I lost lots of money when I play foker so as I had a high ambition to got the desired profit at that time and I realized that this way was wrong. Because my target is win and before I win I never leave the room and the result was I spent lots of money because of that and I felt guilty just because I never win. There is only one reason why I doing gambling and it is to earn and make more money. Doing gambling is very risky but if you are lucky you can earn more money. I'll go with to earn money, most of the people I know gamble to earn money, they try there luck in gambling to improve their way of living. It's like thinking that gambling is the only way for them to improve when in fact, not most of them are lucky enough to win in gambling. But I think it still depend on who gambles whether they do it for fun, to earn money or to relieve stress.

Gambling addiction is one of the worse problem of a person, I read a lot of experience that some people even sold their car and house for gambling.
