Very simple, bitcoin is the most expensive currency today, although the price is very volatile but can not be denied that the development of bitcoin very rapidly. And most importantly bitcoin makes transactions faster and easier
It is because bitcoin is the first who become successful and it is the currency the become popular in many people because of that reason many people started using bitcoin and bitcoin user's increase it's grow and become the no.1 digital currency in the world it is just because of the user's who is using bitcoin because there's already a almost billion bitcoin users in the world and it's continue grow in the past years.
Periodically several altcoins are being developed. One thing we need to know is that the altcoins were created for the profiting and trading purposes. Only few gets into the next level of growth getting more acceptance. This gives a big difference with its different usage all around starting from a value token to high profiting investment.
I think altcoin is a factor, the presence of altcoin create a bitcoin be # 1, they will be the promotion of coins to new users and pay with bitcoin thus helping bitcoin popular.

Yes ,but its not that expensive ,we knew that bitcoins exist a long time ago and it proves his stability also the main thing was bitcoins is connected in the sense of blockchain rather than any altcoin even it has a big marketcap. Provided with the acceptance and legalization of bitcoins even there are better ones .Its too hard that any altcoin go over bitcoin ,however everything might happen in the future .Is because the name "Bitcoin" is the best name for a crypto-currency.
