Because it was the first one, at least that's what I remember. I'm not even familiar with alts and more so on the technical details of each crypto (I couldn't even wrap my head around the basics of a blockchain). But one thing I'm quite sure is that when people think of crypto, they think bitcoin. Heck, they probably even heard of bitcoin first than cryptocurrency, just like me. Bitcoin is a pioneer and started this trend and so have a massive head-start against the other cryptos, especially with regards to adoption and actual use in transactions. Looking around here it seems that alts only exist to either smokescreen the movement of bitcoin (like this Monero they like to talk about) or for trading in exchanges. Maybe that's why they're called alts -- they're just bitcoin alternative.

Though you are right that the name is really unique, for pronouncing it also seems great as it is really easy and attractive, but i feel the reason why we all think this is the success of the coin, if the coin was not what it is right now and another coin was in place of it then maybe we would have been praising that other coin, it is possible always.

The name is an added goodness which along with the potential makes it as the best of cryptocurrency. Bitcoin is the one which has sustained long compared to several other currencies that's been created during the same time period. Bitcoin price is also a factor that keeps it alive for a long.

Out of all the Alt-coins, I like Monero the best. It sounds nice in a variety of languages. Even still, it doesn't really describe what it is very well, although Monero is a very cool way of saying "money".

Instead all would have agreed if you wrote that bitcoin would be no one, because it's decentralised, it has no taxes whatsoever and it's simply awesome in use. It's more than a name, for me it's symbol of hope and change. So you should consider editing the post it's got more than a name.
I could be wrong, but bitcoin will always be the first in preferences of people worldwide. It is the leader and has gain a vast user base compared to alt coins. Even the name "alt" means something alternative to bitcoin. Furthermore has the longest history and has prove its potential all of these 8 years after genesis block. yep the name BITCOIN is very attractive , also there is other good names like Litecoin, Dash, Ethereum, Monero, Lisk........
I think that is why bitcoin is always in the number if you are talking about in rankings because bitcoin is the first crypto release and the rest are just his children.. and for now it is hard to replace bitcoin since many companies are already invested in bitcoin and i think they don't let other to replace it because the value of bitcoin can be affected.
Man your argument is very bad, no one cares about names. I agree it's good name but in reality the reason of bitcoon being N1 is that bitcoin was first cryptocurrency and at that time it was innovation. It's most trusted and if you look threads here, icos are invested by bitcoins, not by any other altcoins, in most cases it's like that and also there aren't any hard forks which is very important.

I think people will always find a cooler name than bitcoin, but the reason why Bitcoin is number one because of being the pioneer of cryptocurrency and being adopted by majority of population of cryptocurrency. And that is also the reason why Bitcoin is almost the best name for cryptocurrency.
Yes, I'm agree. That fact that bitcoin is on the first place doesn't have anything with it's name. The popularity of bitcoin made cause of it's was the new thing and first thing in the area of crypto currencies. Such new projects as bitcoin usually have a big future in the history, the same as invention of telephone or radio. Other crypto currencies are jut trying to be the same as bitcoin with the wish to repeat it's success.
There is certainly a bit of truth in what you are saying, but I would not say that it is the only reason. The general branding will make it the number one forever, that is true, and the name played a big part in this success, but that is far from being the only one. Some people think that with a ridiculous name they will attract many people if their crypto-currency is good enough, but now we haveve entered in some kind of branding competition, and people will not look at your coin if it has a shitty name for exemple.
I think it do not depend the name but it depend on the features and the trust on it. It is the first cryptocurrency coming to the internet and then people started to use it and then they knew that it is the most secure currency out of all other coins and so it is still No.1
