Even as a newbie, I like it. Hell, it could be 50 posts and 5 weeks. I think the quality of the content is a reason so many lurk and don't even need to post to ask questions.

Though, if the point is to prevent spambots, couldn't a bot get around this?

I still dont like it.

I didn't like it either.  I, too, had been popping in and out over the last couple of years, but didn't feel I had anything really to contribute, so I didn't.  Then came the time that I REALLY wanted in on a conversation... so I ran into newbie jail, too.  Hated it.  Toughed it out.  You can do it too.  It sucks.  Wait until you see the various things available only to people with a certain longevity.  Just today, someone giving away licenses to MS product, but only to people who registered before I did.

I call it my lurker tax, or lurker penalty.  As a long-term lurker I was really a taker for a couple of years before giving back, however modestly.  Welcome to the boat.

Keep reading - you'll have your 4 hours soon enough.

I'm with everyone else, I don't like it because of the situation I'm in at the moment where I have to wait to ask an important question to TAT about my securities.

The combination of 5 posts and 4 hours of time spent browsing is to weed out spambots and trolls.

If you don't like it, the rest of us (jr., full, sr., hero, mods) don't care.

We all like clean forums, don't we?
The problem is the forum doesnt want any spammers or New Age wotanist.

I dont think this 5 posts 4 hour rule is any good its a pain in the ass and spammers/scammers are still going to make accounts.

The 4 hours, especially, makes it even more of a pain in the a** for scammers.  Most scammers are going to be too lazy to go through the process of setting up an account, making 5 posts, and reading the forum for 4 hours.

You also overlook the point that the 5 posts / 4 hours rule also helps with the purpose of making new uses familiar with the forums.  This system cuts down on duplicate messages, since the new user has been able to read more posts on the forum.

As you said, scammers are still going to make accounts, but they won't be able to post on them.

I still dont like it.

RichG you registered january 23 of 2013 and looks like you've been spamming messages. Your post count makes you no better. And your still more of a noob then me. Been around Bitcoin since 2010 and own 300 BTC what about you?

This seems logical. I have seen many forums ruined by the bots. So, lets wait little bit...
