I can only second this. I have been following the forum but only recently joined.
I too do like clean forums but now I will need to virtually spam the forum:
instead of replying to an existing thread with meaningful content now my 2cents will be separate in newbie section.
hmm
I'll get over it i guess Smiley

it would be  helpful if there is some form of more visible notification for newbees. I have also followed this forum for more than a month only to realise now that I have to have 5 posts and 4 hours.

Any PM or banner for newbees?

My only issue with the current system is that I spend most of my time lurking on various forums, subreddits, hackernews, etc. I've been following several threads here, mostly ASICMINER and Friedcat, but also auctions and other stuff. Today I came across something I wanted to add to in a meaningful way, realized I didn't have an account, then had to go through the process.

It seems OK though - I just need to pick up a plugin for chrome that autorefreshes the page for 5 hours...

I would just add that someone having read the forums for dozen of hours (like me) should be allowed to write in any forum. I suddenly need to reply to a thread and can't even though I have followed this forum for more than a year.

The combination of 5 posts and 4 hours of time spent browsing is to weed out spambots and trolls.

If you don't like it, the rest of us (jr., full, sr., hero, mods) don't care.

We all like clean forums, don't we?
