Graphene-oxide membranes have attracted considerable attention as promising candidates for new filtration technologies. Now the much sought-after development of making membranes capable of sieving common salts has been achieved.

New research demonstrates the real-world potential of providing clean drinking water for millions of people who struggle to access adequate clean water sources.

The new findings from a group of scientists at The University of Manchester were published today in the journal Nature Nanotechnology. Previously graphene-oxide membranes have shown exciting potential for gas separation and water filtration.

Graphene-oxide membranes developed at the National Graphene Institute have already demonstrated the potential of filtering out small nanoparticles, organic molecules, and even large salts. Until now, however, they couldn’t be used for sieving common salts used in desalination technologies, which require even smaller sieves.

Previous research at The University of Manchester found that if immersed in water, graphene-oxide membranes become slightly swollen and smaller salts flow through the membrane along with water, but larger ions or molecules are blocked.

The Manchester-based group have now further developed these graphene membranes and found a strategy to avoid the swelling of the membrane when exposed to water. The pore size in the membrane can be precisely controlled which can sieve common salts out of salty water and make it safe to drink

You may be right on that one. But imagine a scenario in which 25% or 30% of the British soldiers holding a foreign passport (I am assuming that these Scottish soldiers will take the citizenship of Scotland and continue to serve in the British army). The question of loyalty will arise.

I'm not sure the Scots can safely survive the separation from great Britain and to establish an Autonomous economy. Why do you think that the UK has lost from leaving the EU, and the Scots will benefit from the exit from the UK.

The scottish should really break away from the UK, In the Brexit referendum, Most of Scotland voted to stay in the EU whiles England voted for the Brexit. In order to stop the UK from collapsing, i think the countries should be represented individually and not as a whole like the UK.

I think the consensus is that it might be reversible in theory, which of course would be vastly controversial.

However as time goes on it's going to become clearer and clearer how many lies were dropped during the campaign and just how fucked the UK will be. And there's no way it's going to be done and dusted in 2 years. More like 5-10. That's a lot of time for the smoke to clear and dissenting voices to increase.

Most voters declared in a poll they'd only vote for it if living standards didn't drop. They already have and it hasn't even started yet.

Why if? The UK has already launched the brexit. It seems to me that to stop this process is no longer possible. Those who voted for brexit not thought about the consequences. It seems to me that politicians have played in democracy. This may lead to disintegration of the country.
