But as far as I know there 2 user is non merit source, S_Therapist & Coolcryptovator. Both users isn't merit source. I think there is more none merit source users but above 2 is sure none merit source.

There's at least three, I'm not a merit source either.

All you guys who are saying that most of the merits are coming from regular members, and not from the merit sources, should remember that without the merit sources awarding merits, the regular members wouldn't have any sMerits to award.

True, many of the merits I received come from merit sources.

Just speaking for myself here, I usually don't have sMerits left over when it's replenishment time.  Usually not even personal ones are left over.
I'm pretty much there too. My source sMerits are gone within 24 hours of them being replenished. My personal sMerit stash is usually sitting around 5 to 10 depending on how active I've been/how many merits I've earned myself over the last week or so. I struggle to spend myself down to 0 - when I hit 2 or 3 I tend to not merit anything at all until I am replenished/earn more, just in case someone posts something absolutely amazing and I find myself out of sMerits.

I used to check that list every week or so, just for the hell of it and for whatever reason I stopped--but it doesn't surprise me I'm not in the top 10.  That's actually a good thing, as I give out a lot of merits; it means there are some die-hard merit sources out there spreading the love.

How can it be used?

Saw the board under "Regional political discussions section" titled "Bitcoin and crypto in Africa" i feel it's a little bit restricting since the description says "The use of Bitcoin in Africa is increasing, use this board to discuss developments." maybe if you open the board to all Africa related discussion like political discussion, entertainment, blockchain and the rest the board will get some activeness. Right now it feels like the board should only be used to discuss "The Use of Bitcoin in Africa". Which will kind of reduce the level of discussion on the board.

It should be like a board where interested users can discussion everything related to africa not just the use of bitcoin in africa

If the inactive merit sources aren't fit for their job theymos should appoint serious minded ones i see numerous application on meta, people are out there who're ready to handle the job and do it perfectly

Maybe I should start another Fit to Talk English translation initiative. Maybe I'll do it for pidgin English, that should get a few members coo'ing.

Lets see how it goes. There are quite some untapped potential in Nigeria and africa in general. Anything that favour my country count me in you got my support Cash, you can make use of the Other language/location board using beginner and help board will just attract the post reporters and topic might endup been moved by moderator.

I don't think I get very many, as I only seem to award in ones and twos. I'd do a Pidgin post special for the Africans if I knew which board to start it on. Maybe beginners would work if we had an English translation.

My question was regarding rest 74 merit sources. Are their smerit allocation below 50? or are they not using allocated smerit?
Only theymos (or the individual sources themselves) could answer this. Even knowing the total number of merit sources (122) and source sMerit (20835 per 30 days), there are too many confounding factors (not knowing exactly who all the sources are, not knowing how many merits being sent are source sMerits or personal sMerits, etc). It would be impossible to work out what each source's individual allocation is and whether or not they are spending it.

As I've said though, theymos recently readjusted the allocations, so you can be fairly certain that if a source isn't spending their source sMerits, then they will be cut and the excess transferred to a source who is regularly running out.

I’ve just checked if I could spot a Merit Source on a given Local board with a low amount of sMerits (by checking on the Merit Dashboard the biggest Meriters on that local board over the last few months vs received sMerit, and then looking at their sMerit distribution on a monthly basis).

The source I found distributed over the last few months (not only on his local board): 13 sMerits (Jan 2019), 49 sMerits (December 2018), 10 sMerits (November 2018), 59 sMerits (October 2018), and so on.

The Merit Source in question therefore may not have that much of an allowance (60 per 30 days at best), merits primarily his local board (97,01% of awarded sMerit), and may not find enough meritable posts on his local board to empty his allowance every month. I've spotted other merit sources in the lower 2 digits, and recall 25 being a starting point for a specific one.

Some merit sources receive very few sMerits to send, some receive less than 30. Theymos made it clear that he would like to have fonts for specific locations like local boards. And some Merit sources only actively participate in these sections so they get few merits.

Most of these users who send a lot of sMerits participate much more in sections that already have many sources of merits. And that already has a good flow of Merits. Meta, WO, Investigations are sections where good Topics are always rewarded with enough Merits.

without the merit sources awarding merits, the regular members wouldn't have any sMerits to award.
It's true, and that's the reason why theymos added merit source. If there is no merit source they merit system will decay automatically. Seems you are also on the list, means you are using your smerit properly. My question was regarding rest 74 merit sources. Are their smerit allocation below 50? or are they not using allocated smerit? If they are from local board and unable to find good post it doesn't mean they can't use their smerit outside of local board. Theymos always encourage spend your smerit before refill date. @tactac already mentioned quote.

@Findingnemo what Jet Cash is saying is the following.
If there was no merit source to allocate merits to Users 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8... then Users 4,7,8 for example wouldn't have any merits to send to those top merit senders. You see, a member could receive merits from users who aren't merit sources but those merits originated from somewhere and most probably they came from a merit source sometimes in the past.

But how a member can be at top merit sender when they are not merit sources if they were awarded merits with the merit sources.

I think we are talking about the merit sources who didn't distribute their allocated merits so it is possible to have merits which came from merit sources.

I’m a source with a fairly low allocation. I haven’t even checked how many I get a month but I regularly run out. I think I get something like 3 source Merit’s per day which naturally I use.

Theymos prefers Merit sources to empty their source. He said (and I'm not going to find back the quote): if you find only a few posts worth meriting in a month, give them everything so they can redistribute sMerit again.

I think that this is the original post.

If they complain about amounts, tell them to complain to me. It's best if sources try to exhaust their source allocations, even if it means giving posts higher amounts than is typical. If you have 150 source merit and you only see 3 merit-worthy posts in a month, then I'd rather you over-give each of them 50 merit than let the merit expire. That way there are more people capable of sending merit, and the "merit economy" is less top-down.

I personally agree with this idea. I think that active circulation of Merit is important for the activation of the forum and each local board.

I don't know about monthly allocations but I don't think it will be less than a hundred.
You are wrong, it's less than hundreds. In fact, many of the members who were added after the modification of the merit system "new restrictions on Jraccounts[1]" came with relatively low merits.
Initial merit sources had about 200 to 400 merits so few of all merit sources could generate those sMerits.

Imagine that you are local board merit source, and your board does not have really high activity, you don't need more than 10-20 per month.
Maybe that's why. Many new members are merit sources of for local boards.

Well I don't think there are many posts that ever should have received 50. I do remember reading theymos's view that he would like to see the allocations spent. I disagree with emptying the sac for the sake of emptying it. If this is done it would always seem that we need more merit, as opposed to finding a happy balance.

What if higher rank member receive 50 merits merits for a post,Is it okay?
I think we need to serve the merit based on quality no matter of newbie or legendary.

On top of that, my "personal" sMerit pile is higher than ever.

the reasons maybe for not spending are

- cant' find the good quality post to merit them
- not enough time to read the most

I don't think merit sources are rewarded with any incentives
A better forum is my incentive Smiley

My source went from 200 to 400 at the beginning of January, and was empty at the end of the month. I merited many posts at the beginning of January, so those sMerits were all replenished at once recently, and currently I have a hard time emptying my source again. On top of that, my "personal" sMerit pile is higher than ever.
