This guy has lost 103 bitcoins he mined back in 2011 and then lost his wallet dat file similar to what I have done but wow this guy must be gutted the amount of money he has lost compared to me

His Address    166BuLPWHUjqoqiYp5rGE3B5r5AmqgHpoL    Final Balance   103.20832384 BTC

So many people have the same problem and I wonder just how much Bitcoin is stuck not being able to be used Sad

He says "I used to mine Bitcoin back in 2011 and I lost my wallet.dat file (through several stupid moves on my part). It's got approx 103 BTC in it, anyone is welcome to it, I've given up trying."

How people manage to do that..... Huh Huh Huh

This is very surprising, i mean how is he going to bear this big lost. please the rest of us has to be careful in how we keep the details of our wallet, at least share it with your wife/husband or your child so that they can help when we are lost, this is too big to loose

So sad,  loosing that big btc is so disappointed. You will just end up seeing your wallet but cannot access your own wallet. Let us all keep our wallet in a safe mode.

I am just google it that address and I am shock when I saw how he get by mining bitcoin on that year. But its really sad to see that amount of bitcoin can be traded because with recent price, it can buy a house and car in the sametime

I also saw somewhere a rating where the largest bitcoin's sums that people lost were indicated. So this guy is not the only one unhappy. We just always hope that this will not happen to us, so we carelessly take care of the safety of our assets. So we need to be a little more attentive.

Is this a joke? Seriously and kidding aside,  I this this is too good to be true or can I say too good to be bad?  Why?  It is because it is a very large amount maybe today but actually even before it is a big amount in terms of the number of bitcoin.  I am not that expert in Bitcoin but I think its if this is true,  the owner is probably his fault if anyone had known his password because it's actually hard for anyone to hack a password.  It is maybe because of his incapabilities.

In fact, the number of people who have lost access to their wallets - Much more than you think. But, unfortunately, the fact remains that most of them will never be able to regain access to their money.

There are some rumors that few mill of BTC are lost forever.
That's a lot of money.

103 btc is not that much. I think that the scariest and sorrowful story is the one about pizza. How much did it cost? 11 thousand btc. In present time, this deposit could have been in the top 100 of richest bitcoin addresses.

Those coins are completely lost and there is nothing to be done to retrieve them, it is impossible to know how many coins have been lost because there is not a way to differentiate between the coins that are lost and the coins that are held in long term storage by their owners, after all even if the coins did not moved in decades that could just mean the person holding those coins has decided to still not sell his bitcoin.

I'm really sorry for the person who lost 103 big coins. In fact, Bitcoin customers never thought that Bitcoin would get the price. It's lost forever never found again. So do not wait for the lost forever and move forward.

Sad. It is a very big loss. Especially with the exchange rate from the end of 2017. But everything can be made up. Every error teaches us ...

This obviously sucks but the bigger question I ponder is how many Bitcoins will be lost by the time most are mined? I could see that number being in the range of 2-5 million, but it would be good to know as that definitely changes the price Bitcoin should sit at. Currently it should be worth more, given we know some Bitcoins are missing, yet the market doesn't reflect that.

I previously read news on a news site about the loss of 850,000 bitcoins. in the Japanese cryptocurrency exchange, Mt.Gox, which declared bankruptcy and closed its business in 2014 after losing about 850,000 Bitcoin. Its founder, Mark Karpeles, at that time pleaded not guilty to allegations of embezzlement. unimaginable, If we have so much bitcoin  Huh

in 2011, I almost everyone who knows bitcoin, can have bitcoin up to 10 btc more. it used to be very easy to get it. but at that time I admit, I do not think long with bitcoin future. and all the btc I have run out on the 'online table'. then I have 11 btc and earn 32 btc. but all are just memories, because of my own mistake. and if it still exists (btc), it's very fancy at the moment.  Grin

If he lost that year, I do not think he was too upset because I thought that bitcoin had a low value. if he keeps it until now and he lost 103 BTc recently, I think he must have been very stressed and succumbed to crypto.

Cry I cringed so hard reading this, that must have been soo painful  Shocked yikes. Would have been much better losing it over a dumb move at a loss than to lose everything like that.

This kind of situation is definitely unavoidable. But at the same time, many people will still make same mistake now and later regret it in future. There are so many new project out there right now with a great potential but the coin is either not very valuable right now compare to others and because of that reason, many will be careless with it. But I believe that there would be a mean of retrieving all those lost coin in future.
