This happens when you are not having enough backups of your important files. Sure, at the time he mined the Bitcoins he probably haven't sensed that 100 BTC could one day be his personal pension fund.

That is a loss, as of today of $1.3 million USD.  Even if a business lost this amount of profit, they’d go crazy let alone a single individual.  If it was me, I would be beside myself, i’d Go crazy.  You could buy your house cash and still have loads left.   Its really unlucky to be in that situation, I can’t imagine what it must feel like but I do know that it’s like a missed oppotunity.

He never had that money so better not even to think about it. It's the same as saying: "if I bought AAPL stock 20 years ago..."

I probably would spend the rest of my life whining about it. I mean, that could have change the current status of my life." I'd live like a king if i didnt lose the wallet.dat". Is there no really a way to recover it?

Wow, he has actually 103 Bitcoin in his wallet. He must be really disappointed with losing his wallet.dat. I wish he gets it soon as possible back but that is nearly impossible. Actually who is this guy ? Does he has a name ?

We are never going to know his real identity, and if we do, it shouldn't be revealed, because we are on crypto, and that is the first purpose of cryptos; ANON.

So i feel very sorry for this guy, but how could he be so dumb to do not protect his wallet.dat?

This just goes to show how HODLing too long can cause complacency.  You have to remain active in that which you believe in and even take the necessary precautions to ensure you don't lose what could amount to millions.

Similar story like the one with the guy who paid 10 000 BTC for 2 pizzas back in 2010. Poor guys  Embarrassed

That's actually a different story. That was a milestone, a sacrifice meant. Had that transaction never happened, BTC could still be a neopet currency.

This guy has lost 103 bitcoins he mined back in 2011 and then lost his wallet dat file similar to what I have done but wow this guy must be gutted the amount of money he has lost compared to me

His Address    166BuLPWHUjqoqiYp5rGE3B5r5AmqgHpoL    Final Balance   103.20832384 BTC

So many people have the same problem and I wonder just how much Bitcoin is stuck not being able to be used Sad

He says "I used to mine Bitcoin back in 2011 and I lost my wallet.dat file (through several stupid moves on my part). It's got approx 103 BTC in it, anyone is welcome to it, I've given up trying."

WOw! imagine of I can get all the Bitcoins, I will be a great millionaire here in our country. And I will try to recover that Bitcoins.

This is the problem with Bitcoins. Once the coins are lost, they are lost forever. Can't blame him though. In 2011, no one thought that Bitcoin will hit an exchange rate of $19,000 per coin after a few years. LOL.. not even Satoshi might have thought like that.

I do not have this experience, but I really sympathize with you, I would like to avoid making such mistakes.

If realy he has lost his 103 of bitcoin .He gets a big loss.103 bitcoin is a big amount of money. If it was happend with me what i do that time or what was the situation with me i just can't say.nothing to say about the loss by me , Because i don't face this type of loss my life .In my currency it's a big amount .I just say don't think the past ,just try to make a amount of big like this .
we cant say that we can calm on that way of course there is a depression of to be but we may almost to be more productive let in a day or an hour to calm you and think for some positive way to be what may be the best thing to do for, 103 bitcoin are too painful.

It's so sad to hear this kind of story. This probably didn't expect that the BTC price will pick up this high in the future. It's been only 7 years and see the turnout. Hopefully more people will learn from this and keep their passwords and wallet address safely and secured.

Yes, of course he was unlucky. But he had to think about the future and take care of the safety of your wallet.

Wow that's the saddest thing I have heard this week. If I had such an amount I would backup my private key 10 times. I wonder how he actually lost it, must be some very bad luck as I'm sure he had backups.
