I think it is not necessary to ale alt for buy bitcoin. Because bitcoin and alts is almost built with each other if bitcoin rise alt will also rise and if bitcoin fall alts will also fall. So I see that there is no advantage of selling alts for buying bitcoin, because as of now bitcoin and alts are dropping. If we sell alt we cannot maybe get a big profit so it means that we can only buy few amount of bitcoin in short no advantage at all.
I only sell about 30% of the altcoins that I have to buy bitcoin, all of the altcoins that I sell are because I have got a lot of profits. If I still haven't made a profit, I won't sell
I am not one of those who sell my altcoin for bitcoin, on the contrary I sell my Bitcoin to buy some altcoins because I think holding lots of coins is faster for profit because now I think trading is the best way for me to do.
more holding Altcoin will get more opportunities than holding one coin. Bitcoin is indeed a good coin, but if selling Altcoin for Bitcoin is not a good choice.The movement of coins varies so that the stronger the strength of the coin, the more it is held it will make it easier for you to get results, because some Altcoin can be profitable and can also be calm so that not only one Altcoin can be obtained.

I will hold my asset if price still lower, I never sell my asset if price lower than ICO, keep holding for one or two years until price is under of ICO and hope bitcoin could be higher too, its my way how keep asset could be on higher price.
I will not divert altcoin I have completed for bitcoin. Despite the visible increase but the result of altcoin will be more beneficial when it is being held for the long term. In addition, many altcoins that have the potential for good quite down and surely this a good opportunity to start entry and not the switch.
I still see a big potential in a majority of top 50 altcoins, because if we would see another bullish market this year, Bitcoin can raise to 20k USD from now, and ethereum can raise from 120 to 1200 USD.
I do not think that now is the time to sell alternative coins. It seems to me that the market should go up after a long period of decline.
I am seriously waiting for the time that bitcoin will rise, but presently, it seems more ficus is on ethereum and less on so many coins. So far, the best investment has been in the line of altcoins. The period you can get more profit from bitcoin, is when there is bull run and it is not feasible we will be seeing that any time soon.

This old thread is even more interesting to say a few things like if you believe that some of your coins can not compete with BTC or simply help you get more BTC, in fact, it does not make sense to have ALTs. 
So if you think it does not make sense to have ALTs, why there are so many ALTs around us? For me, having ALTs will give a second chance to earn more BTC, but it depends on what ALTs you have. As long as you can buy a potential ALTs or having ALTs in the top 10 coins list, you will make a profit in BTC. I have many ALTs, and I am sure it will give me a profit again as before since the time for ALTs to increase will comes, and I only need to be patient and wait for the price increase.

You just did the right timing man, ETH has sink very hard and I think it's on the bottom now. You can buy back if you think ETH will again rise, of course there's a lot of coins in the market, it's also good to consider buying those coins.

I think we should be very careful and read well before selling off all altcoin for bitcoin, yes bitcoin is a good investment at the moment but so are some other altcoins too. If possible you don't have to sell your altcoin to buy bitcoin why not investment in bitcoin without having to sell off your altcoin. I believe there are some goodies cooking for altocins too.
I believe that for investment bitcoin extremely now not seems interested all want big money so I think altcoins is famously for this suited to now to invest
