Nothing else but bitcoin itself. We cannot deny the fact of being the best crypto and that makes it on top cryptocurrencies.
The demand of bitcoin in 2016 rises up much and those who trusted to invest there. So I guess, this year will be good year again for bitcoin as 2016 hits it on top.

Bitcoin is the only relevant answer.

And I know there are other currencies, but when are they ever accepted as currency with businesses? If "alternatives" exist, they need to be accepted and transacted as currency. Period.
If we judge from the percent increase in the market based on investors funds, another coin may be number one but they are still far far away from bitcoin, ini value or usability as an alternative payment. Bitcoin value grow more than a hundred percent in a year is more amazing than 2769% but the value only $0.4807. I'm not underestimate it, and looks like it has pretty fast growth as now reach $12.
Overall, anything can happen in cryptocurrency world but the number one still bitcoin.

You forgot to mention that not all altcoins have the goal of being used as a currency in the first place, just look at Ripple for example, RIpple provides blockchain solutions to banks.

And there are many other altcoins that do not have 'becoming a widely used internet currency' as a primary goal.

They are the top 10 in my opinion, and interestingly, not all of them are in top 10 by market cap.

Zcash Coin must be interesting, and also Tether which is a very classic old coin.

And it became an altcoin discussion.  Grin

Hell! Bitcoin did a good at the year of 2016. Before it ended it made a good jump and also after. From where? $300? $350? Look at where it is now. Tripled the amount it was. And you say other crypto's besides that. How cruel is that to bitcoin?  Grin

WOLF.BET - Provably Fair Crypto Casino
Many cryptocurrencies appear all the time trying to compete Bitcoin, usualy with not much success. I would maybe put accent on Monero which is on the way up and to become more popular. The main reason is perfect anon at th moment and Bitcoin has lost a great deal of anonimity and that is the reason why some users have abandoned it.

Of course these altcoins were profitable investment, but Monero seems to be outstanding. I think some coins and Ethereum based tokens has good chance to achieve the same success until the next year, people are recognising the profitability of the blockchain projects.

Why bitcoin not became number one, maybe because it is really expensive compare to other coins.
Anyway, thank you for this information I have been searching for this for about 2 days since I am planning to start to invest the next month. And now I know which coin will I put my investment aside from bitcoin. Of course, even if bitcoin did not hit the number 1 I still believe that bitcoin is the number one.

the ranking is based on ROI, and of course of factors are more important in the long term, like how serious the developers are, the scalability and the innovation.

But 2769.02% of ROI in a year is not something that can be overlooked

In 2017 I expect to see the rise of new competitors to Bitcoin. There are many reasons for that: 1. mass adoption; 2. transaction speed; 3. popularity among businesses; 4. user friendly and very secure apps to use. I'm looking at Byteball, Monero and Dash very closely.

I agree with you Sir. Monero is gonna go big this 1st part of the year. One of the few altcoins that if you would look from the time of launch, that there is enticing development in terms of price. Unlike other coins that start big, then go down.

I think it gonna do about the same as bitcoin. Not identical, but with lots of similarities.

Not your Keys, Not your Bitcoins
Bitcoin is obviously the king of the crypto-currencies,but monero has proved to be a reliable crypto-currency over the years as well. They provide one of the highest anonymity in transactions and they still have room to expand. It is surely on my watch list for 2017. There are a few more recent launched crypto coins that catched my eye for 2017. For example Stratis which made a lot of new developments and I see it explode this year. There are some more but I don't want to promote them here. Wink

According to my views in 2016 bitcoin was the No.1 crypto currency while in your provided list bitcoin is kept at 10 number. I have a doubt on that list. In 2016 I am sure that bitcoin got a great success due to the adoption in that year.

Yeah Monero is on the rise!

It's a really cool coin, I bought some few months ago. Fact is that anonimity is an important aspect of cryptos... But BTC hardly answers to this precise point and that's really something missing.
Especially when dealing withn the less legal part of the web Grin

Aside from Monero, I will nominate for Ethereum since they have shown great price and the number of users are indeed increasing, they are my favorites aside from bitcoin. Though there are many coins that are on top such as ripple and many more but I will nominate Monero and Ethereum since I have hold of that coins and made some profit. This 2017 the coins that has high potentials will be Trump, Putin, Bill, and Pesobit. But dont ever forget bitcoins its the unbeatable crypcocurrency.

There are many other crypto currencies besides bitcoin, but bitcoin with no doubt is the most popular among it. I heard that Litecoin and Ethereum are also attracting many attention from the side of investors today.

What I like is that nobody can see my wallet address somewhere then see the amount of money in my wallet. It doesn't have necessarily to be tied to the illegal stuff...
However, let's be nice and keep the discussion about the list not only Monero Wink
The list has more coins, some having a surprising place. Still thinking I should not have given up to Maidsafe so early/so easy. Ohwell...

Bitcoin is the probably on top of the list because of the most adopted coin all over other cryptocurrencies.
The demand of bitcoin in the year 2016 hooks up that is why when 2017 entered it reaches up to 1100 $ which is good thing for everyone and on the face of bitcoin.
So we look forward for more this year in bitcoin.

IMHO there are quite a number of other coins that need to keep an eye at, some are "sleeping giants", some are strong newcomers.
While I hope that Monero will continue to perform, I am afraid that such a good year as 2016 will be hard to beat...

Adoption Blockchain e-Commerce to World
Yes it is true, the 2016 world cryptocurrency very lively, very large transactions increase since first bitcoin found in 2009. I think, to repeat or exceed 2016 is very difficult, I predicted the industry cryptocurrency would drop in this year.
