This is what I love about this.  Yes, you cannot trust anyone.  But it is kinda wild west, no?   I mean, the world is so full of over-regulation.  It is nice to be dealing in something that is outside of all of that, and we have to use our own common sense.  Just a different perspective, but if you make stupid mistakes, you kinda deserve to learn from them, no?

MtGox does have limits on withdrawals and does not give you a checkbook, so it is incorrect to think of it as analogous to a bank account.

what is the best way to purchase bitcoins?

if i send $ to mt gox can it remain in mt gox as $, or does it automaticaly get converted to bitcoins?

Hi, that's what I'm doing. The $ at MtGox won't be transferred automatically but you will have them in your wallet and then you choose how you get bitcoins and how much through them  Smiley.

Thanks for the info.  Can you cash out the $ in your wallet irrelevantly of market condition?  Let me rephrase that; does mt gox act as a dollars bank account?  or is there always some sort of catch related to bitcoins?
