At the start of a new season, it is always anticipated that the new season is more interesting than the previous one and every team will want to be playing at their very best form in order to improve in their performance in the competition. The level at which a team performs season after season is on how they play in the pitch and how coordinated they are and their connection with the coach during their training sessions. A competition like champions league has to be competitive and has to be very enticing to watch. Without those moments of wander on which teams to win, the game becomes unattractive and very predictable to know who the next winner in that match will be. Finished a season in poor stats and position, there's every tendency for such club to put more effort to be the best next season. Atletico Madrid used to be the major contenders in the UEFA Champions League competition but in recent seasons they've failed to deliver good performances in the competition and that's why a lot of people are of the opinion that they now come to make up the numbers and shouldn't be considered as a strong contender for the European title again. After they struggled in the middle of last season, Atletico Madrid were still able to make it to the top four of the Spanish La Liga at the end of the just concluded season which automatically qualifies them to play in the competition again next season.
The club management is very happy with the presence of Diego Simeone as the club manager and doesn't have any plan of sacking him anytime soon so I strongly believe that Atletico Madrid will continue to be more of a pretender than a serious contender for the UEFA Champions League title come next season because we have other clubs with more quality of players and determination to win the trophy than Atletico does.
