You're right, this is how you win tournaments.
England have failed so often in the past by playing reckless attacking football, trying to cram in as many creative players as possible... and then getting ruthlessly eliminated by more efficient teams.

Southgate has specifically been studying how teams win tournaments, and the strategies and formations they use. And he's been trying to shape England into a tournament winning side. It seems to be working well. England aren't as fun as usual, but are far more efficient. Zero goals conceded so far in four games, and they've now a) won a Euros knockout match for the first time ever without going to penalties, and b) beaten Germany in a knockout match for the first time since 1966.

I was disappointed by Sweden, big time. They played pretty good until that red card (they were somewhat unlucky too). But afterwards they were busier to demolish the opponents than to actually play football, and that's a shame. Sad

England did very good against Germany and it could have been even more interesting if Mueller wouldn't have missed. The game could have ended with any of the teams wining. England was better and luckier.

And about the previous day's (wonderful!) games, did you see this? (I don't know if it's for real, but allegedly it was also published by Bild)

This is not disrespectful to Germany. England is not a weak team. Germany and England are teams of the same standard. However, Germany did not play well in the second half. They didn't have much chance to counter-attack after conceding a goal. We have seen lots of attacks and counter-attacks in Switzerland va France's match. But we didn’t see it in the match between Germany and England.

Surely, yesterday, Germany was not at there best at all else, you wouldn't imagine Muller loosing a much needed goal of that nature against J. Pickford. So far, R. Sterling has always been the .an of the moment for England and is doing greatly. His goal yesterday was completely of his doing, looking at the fact that, he started the working himself from the midfield and somehow through all the passes still found his way in the right position to score the goal.
Same thing with Harry Kane, the center defense of Germany was so porus to have let those 2 players into that spot and not having some challenge towards getting the ball at all. They made M. Neuel look bad.

I have to say that Ukraine was one of the teams I never thought I'd see in the quarterfinals. They were good again yesterday but Sweden had both the post and the crossbar before that stupid red card.

They conceded a cheap goal 2 mins before the penalties but fair play to Ukraine - they were not waiting for the shootout but were trying to score.

England should be happy with the draw, both for the QF and for the eventual semifinals.

Czech look better than Denmark and they have Patrick Schick who has very good form in the tournament but we've already seen many surprising results so far. Schick used to be considered very high but his career does not grow well after the transfer from Sampdoria to AS Roma. Germany isnt the team that we used to see in the last few decades. They look weak on almost all fronts. Beside the fact that the game was held in Wembley, which for sure a big advantage for England, Germany played below the expectation.

I guess the same for Denmark-England, but not for Spain-Italy. I think Belgium will defeat Italy since they have better players in every line, defense-midfield-attacking. In the match against Portugal, I noted Belgium players can play more solidly. They even could make C. Ronaldo has no chance to score. Their attackers played aggressively and the defenders showed their strength. So, I bet Belgium will go to the next stage.
