still don't understand how arsenal can be slaughtered.

I'm not that surprised that they beat Arsenal. I'll go as far as to say they are the favorites to qualify here.

That's the obvious fact here! I just don't know why people are somewhat blind to the reality simply because of Arsenal's "supposed" big team title. I'm not saying there is no possibility of Arsenal pulling a comeback, I'm rather not just convinced with performance so far in the competition, and I'd gladly take Rennes to qualify for any odd greater than 2.50.

Rennes is not such a bad team.
They're doing well in the French Championship and they eliminated Betis in the previous round.

There was a lot of previously guessed results like it was bound to happen but there was a ton of results that shocked the world as well. Now, I know everyone is focused on the champions league results with how Ajax and Manchester United managed to beat their opponents and that is the talk lately.

Moreover, I feel like Inter somehow getting a draw with Frankfurt was a odd thing as well, I would have expected them to just destroy Frankfurt really. Also Sevilla getting a draw with Slavia Prag.. really who the hell is Slavia Prag, I don't even know which country they are from to be honest. All other results look like they happened just like people imagined it would but the Inter and Sevilla games looked like they were the odd ones that could have made you a lot of money.

I think Arsenal will go through still. They will hopefully have 11 men for 90 minutes this time (lol) and they play with their home fans - Big difference.

Really disappointing for Arsenal fans what they did last night was a shame.Losing Against a third class team is really a shame.Arsenal will get it tough and pressure to go through next round.Though a home advantage, they will get in second leg but It's always tough to recover from 3-1.

From what I remember watching a bit of their game yesterday they starting losing when the own goal went in from the arsenal defender with his arms behind his back trying to avoid hand ball but it went off his side into the net instead. At this point they were already down to 10 men and down a goal as well.

As a Manchester United fan I have been wishing that both Arsenal and Chelsea crash out of Europa, as Manchester United is close to finishing fourth in the premier league. I’m sure all will know the rules only four teams qualify from the premier league, and if one of the two wins it then Manchester United will miss out on a champions league spot. I feel Arsenal inability to get the best out of Ozil has hurt them, but playing on home ground they surely will have an advantage.

Sevilla haven't managed to beat Slavia Prague. Their recent results are shitty in La Liga and now they can't even win against such small club at home.
I'm surprised that Napoli won against Salzburg so easily. It's safe to say that Napoli and Chelsea in the next round already after 3:0 home wins.
Villarreal sitting in relegation zone in La Liga, but they don't have problems in Europa league. Solid 3:1 away win against Zenit.

Sevilla's performance has dipped a lot over the past few weeks, their struggle and inability to win matches in which they'd be considered the clear favorite is evident, I wouldn't say the 2 - 2 draw is such a bad result, but giving the lead away twice and two goal conceded at home could have its own implications.

I was also expecting RB Salzburg to cause Napoli lots of trouble, but Napoli were just too much to handle.

Arsenal are just so impossible, blowing every opportunity at the slightest chance they get, now they could get eliminated in the tournament with such a dismal display of football. Even if eventually they get to advance to the next, I'm not sure they'd go too far if they keep up with this kind of mediocre performance.

And imagine that Arsenal had the best odds to win the Europa League. After this humiliating defeat from Rennes I don't think that they will be able to compete for the qualification to the next stage.
I am happy to see Napoli and Chelsea winning easily, and I hope that both team will reach the finals. It will be an interesting match to see as the quality of the teams is similar to Champions League teams.

If I was an Arsenal fan (I’m obviously not) I’d be pissed off tonight but confident that they can still qualofy for the 1/4 final. They only need to win 2-0 at home to advance & I think they will.

Wonder what odds they are to qualify.

I'm not an Arsenal fan but it is frustrating to see a good side lose like that to a not so good side. The red card shouldn't really be an excuse they still have enough star quality to win, but I guess they are still finding their way around in Europe. They played and won almost every game until the last stage, so maybe it's just a case of tiredness but they don't have other games except the league now.

They can easily win 3-0 at home too, I agree. But all the way is tough.

That Rennes team is very surprising.
They have one player in particular, Hatem Ben Arfa, who when he was younger was supposed to become a huge star. He's been a disappointment in most of the teams he's played for but there's no denying that when he puts his mind into it, he's something special.
He was the main reason for Rennes passing through Betis and from what I heard he had another great performance against Arsenal tonight.

You are right, Rennes beat Arsenal 3-1 on the first leg. I thought Arsenal can win after that very early goal, but nope. I think that red card on Sokratis is a big one and that's why Rennes can make a comeback to 3-1, grats to them.

Ben Arfa hasms in his renaissance state at the ligue 1 after plying an unsuccessful in England, he had a great season last year, I've not been really following up him this season!

Chelsea and Napoli are declaring themselves are as the heavy favorites to lift the trophy, both teams had a comfortable 3 - 0 win each against their opponents, and are in pole position to advance to the next round. I think if both teams don't face each along the way during the knockout phases, We could witness a final between both teams.

I really won't be surprised If they fail qualify, they can't keep affording to that lose the 1st leg with the hope/notion of always bouncing back in the 2nd leg.

I didn't see Arsenal as a mediocre team, Arsenal defeat this time because they only played with 10 players with great pressure from the home fans and it was a very exciting match that I saw and I was impressed with the good performance of Rennes.

I referred to their performance as mediocre, not the team.

Arsenal are able to comeback in the second leg even though it looks difficult.
This mindset will get them knocked out earlier than anyone can Imagine, and this could be their last stage for this year's competition.

Lot of surprising results in Europa league tonight. First of all - Arsenal loss to Rennes. It will be difficult task for Rsenal to win by 2 goals at home - Rennes isn't BATE. And Rennes continue to surprise me this season, first they kicked out Betis, and now they are close to eliminate Arsenal.

P.S. Was a bit tough to find this new thread. A bit of a bother about the old one closing. Shouldn't we have just lumped Europa with Champs as UEFA club competition?
I think it's better to have two separate threads for different competition than have everything mixed in one thread.

First matches have just ended

Seville and Arsenal getting overwhelmed by their opponents.
Do you think Arsenal can over turn this result in the second leg?
