How did you stumble across UTC?

Kumusta and welcome to the UTC community Mr JM Erestain.

Thank you for your offer to assist this community - I am sure we are open to serious discussion of your offer.

It might be a good idea if you could give us a quick summary of your qualifications and experience in crypto and related areas.  I have had a quick look through your history here and you have certainly been doing some interesting things.

Checked your FB https://www.facebook.com/GMdpinoy13?fref=ts
How old are you?  About the same age as Vitalik Buterin - a plus in my books - look what he did.

Your site http://ph.newsbtc.com/ looks pretty good - is this really you?
https://www.facebook.com/newsbtcph/?pnref=lhc (note the link on your FB to NewsBTC needs the www deleted)

Do you know the guys from Coins.ph and Rebit?  Both great companies in your country, revolutionising BTC and I deal with them a lot (mainly Coins.ph).

You seem to be a straight up honest guy - with lots of energy.  This means a lot to me as we have a lot of scumbags in crypto.

Please get back to us with a few details and we can all discuss things here.

Maraming salamat po - usukan

If you are still in need of a marketing manager or a project head, I can fill in any of these roles.

Hello Usukan, yes I am just a 2 years and few months younger than Vitalik, May 13.
Anyway, yes, I've worked with them and have had talks with them before.

It's great to know another guy around here is more on the business side of things.

And yes, I also own ph.newsbtc.com but not much goes on around here because most of the news
in the Philippines regarding Bitcoin is about our organization anyway haha.

I'm a co-founder of Navette, an umbrella company of bitcoin-based companies and a member of CoEvolution, a digital foundry community
all based in the Philippines. I cover marketing, design and front-end web development. You might be seeing our product soon if you'll be dealing
with the Philippines often. I think I'm qualified for taking up either marketing or project head, cuz that's what I'm experienced in anyway.

Regards,
JM Erestain

I saw Paul's post at the Project Development subforum.
I'm a cryptocurrency advocate and I see lots of potential from this altcoin especially since it's actually a pretty aged alt. I can work around with making a new logo yes, and move a few things up and around the website.

I'll try making a chat for the dev team if ever, and I'd like to be able to talk to everyone who's willing to help. I am aware this is without financial compensation but I'm sure we can do this without much budget as long as we work closely and cooperate. If you'll have me, of course.

Hi folks,

Sounding positive, good news!

Could I just suggest, an app for android etc, wallet etc. For the coin to have a chance of being used/seen/played with, that needs to be high on the list of priorities. Must be a good way of getting folks, even older ones like me, utilizing the coin. Coins like scotcoin with its own wallet on the phone, are already more user friendly, and more likely for folk with smartphones to look up/play with/use? Not only that, makes it look like a more modern and up to date option

Just my thought, but seems so obvious/important to me...

Cheers,

Roister

Thanks Emerge

I read about Navette here:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/navette-an-exchange-in-the-philippines-1293003

Interesting and challenging project.
I bet you wished you did it via Ethereum rather than NEXT and SAE is closed now.
People are very quick to take up new projects in Ethereum DAPs - its the flavour of the day and may be for many years to come.

Personally I would be keen to have you on board in marketing.  You also have a major plus in Philippines/Asian area.  I know these areas well esp Fils and they are ripe grounds for Crypto use.  If I had the time I would have developed something here myself especially with simple SMS transfers. With your skills you might be able to mock up a new logo etc to mark the evolution of UTC to the next stage. What are your web skills - we need to update a few things on the official site. Dont forget to play around a bit with UTC - install the wallet and send me your address - I will send you 1000 UTC for trial purposes.

We need an overall UTC manager/coordinator really to get things started.  I can help here to get things kick started but it would be good to have somebody to take over the reigns properly as I cannot guarantee very much time at all. I am only here to prevent UTC from death and assist in putting together a new Team.

First and foremost we need a dev or two to sort the tech side of the coin out.

I see we have:
  • bret
    bathrobehero
    whortonda
    thispanda

discussing things - can we make a dev group up from you guys?

Do you 4 guys know enough between you to fix the retarget and fork things back to proper functionality?
@Emerge - do you have any devs in your circle of friends/colleagues?
Personally I am quite keen on Digishield as its tried and tested - but a simple reversion may be OK in the short term.
But then its probably better to do the job once properly so I would favour Digishield for diff retargeting with a delay while it gets sorted out.
Overall the wallet seems "heavy" to me - uses too much resources, freezes, crashes etc.  A total wallet rebuild is required in the future at some stage.

Things do actually work at present - the Bittrex exchange runs on a current functioning wallet and transfers in/out work just fine.  Exchanges don't like continual changes/forks in coins - they get annoyed and lose interest esp on small vol coins.  But Bittrex is certainly more responsive than Cryptsy ever was.

@Alenevaa - are you keen to follow the new evolution of UTC and keep your pool running?
We will need more than one pool - so we need to think about this too.
Miners - what are your thoughts on all of this?  Without you on board we could just waste our efforts here.

So - we need a bit more discussion here and ideas from the community on the above.

After that we can set some directions and put this UTC thing back together.

On the bright side - there does seem to be a bit of a stirring at Bittrex
https://bittrex.com/Market/Index?MarketName=BTC-UTC
check out the 1D version of the graph

I don't want to take things over here - so if anybody else wants to step up and help or take over - be my guest.

One thing stands out for me with this coin. Ultracoin traded for a long time in the top 100 marketcap altcoins with a high price, i.e. it has potential for trading quite high. There are allot of investors (like me) who hold a bag since the beginning, who are refusing to sell with such a crushing loss (I rather just loose it all in that case). Should we however be able to turn this around I believe there are many that can make a small furtune, why are not these bag holders more active, more concerned? Have they all written it off as a loss already?

Purely looking at price is not a long term thing, but we are all in this game as an investment opportunity and how active users are are very much dependant on the notion that in the end there is a gain which is noticable.

I think there are many holding 100k UTC or more, be active, support the coin again and do the math. Could we get the price up to 0.0001 or higher then we stand the chance to at least earn more than pocket change.

*drumroll* Here comes the comments about that price should not be main concern of the coin. Price reflects value, add value and price will follow, but the people who are going to add value will not not do it for free!

ask yourselves how much UTC are you holding? Is it worth it? For me it is! I do not hold allot, but for me, say we succeed in getting back on track, it would make a change in my life.

If we need to fork the coin so be it, Steven and Kracko obviously jumped ship, thus we need to change the people in charge too.

Thanks Marnie - yes I would love to but I dont have the time unfortunately.  I run business in the Australasian region and I am awake 18 plus hrs a day and always travelling to keep these in check.

I do promise however to assist wherever I can and give advice to any new team we may put in place.

if you install the latest UTC wallet, sync it and send me your UTC address - I will send you 1000 UTC to play with.

Price going quite well on Bittrex - but maybe a momentary aberration.

@bathrobehero: Good call. Smiley

I think reverting to the V3 retargeting would work fine and may save some effort.  It's still simple averaging as in V4 and V5, but back then the averaging interval was 10 minutes (10 blocks).  That makes it much more responsive to what's currently happening with the network.  Makes me wonder why they ever decided to change the averaging interval at all.  The max adjustment was also different (was 16% down and 8% up in V3, changed to 16% down and 12% up in V4-V5) but that's somewhat arbitrary.

great to hear from you Paul. I also don't know anything about coding and am just an investor. I have been here from the start and was attracted by the speed of UTC and the cha-cha tech, which is only used by a few altcoins.

There are thousands of people interested in Altcoins and im sure there will be many suitors willing to take the reins. Maybe post something on Reddit or somewhere where many people read about Altcoins?

im interested how come you have all the user accounts for the UTC twitter/facebook/website etc if you havent heard from Steven as he dealt with all that side of things?

Dear UTC community members,

Please let me explain a bit more so there can be no misunderstandings.

As a metaphor:  The ship is “slightly” damaged sailing around, carrying a precious cargo.

Because the “current” captain and his mate gives no signals at all, for a longer period, we have to assume that they have left the ship. So the ship is sailing without any crew, captain or mate.

For me was this the moment I had to take action and explain to the community the situation how I see it is.

Unfortunately, I have no possibility at all to lead or do jobs for UTC because of my business commitments.

The only thing I can do for now is helping to find a new dev team for UTC and share or handover the “UTC infrastructure” (as mentioned before), this so the new team members can make a fresh re-boot.

Bottom-line: If the “old” dev-team doesn’t come back and starts leading again or there are no volunteers found for a new dev-team then the UTC ship will continue to sail damaged in circles without a crew and therefore without a mate and captain.

Anyone who is serious interested and have some special capability’s or is willing to be the new dev-team manager, please step in this forum or pm me.

Thanks,
Paul.

@whortonda

I'm not a coder by any means, I just know how the difficulty of this coin behaves and looking at the code those things stood out to me.

I'm glad to see some discussion from people who actually know what they are doing.

I'll take a look and see what I can do. When I do get a new wallet built, how do we get people to use it?

Nice, thanks! Sign me up for testing it and if it works we should pretty much just set a block for the changes to go live and contact people/pools/exchanges/etc before then to make the upgrade.

I'm also glad Paul came back to clear the air.

Nice work on getting this going. I believe there are several difficulty adjustment algorithms out there, and one that might be interesting is Digishield (by Digibyte), also used by Dogecoin and several other coins - I think this is designed to handle large and sudden changes in hashrate, but I'm no expert.

Edit: on second thought - why not use the old difficulty adjustment? I suppose that worked fine, and might be easier to implement and require less testnet testing etc..?
