you want to unionize a forum where people simply make posts about bitcoin? Are you high? This isn't a workplace.

People could argue that a proven pattern of activity makes so many coin per month.  Interfering with that pattern could be the same as having shifts cut at your workplace.

Community based programs work pretty well for the most part.

Unionization is just introducing democracy D:

I just post on here, have no real responsibility and get to enjoy the use of it.

Yeah but doesn't it annoy you that other people post stupid shit on it too? Wouldn't it be nice if only union-approved posters could do it. /s

While that appears to be quite an appealing idea. (It certainly would reduce the drama). Sometimes some great suggestions come from unexpected people. These people might be non unionized.

Doesn't look like the forum is too resource-intensive. Smiley
We might have 2.6 million users but how many of those are actually active? Considering we have sub-10K posts per day, it doesn't seem like a lot. It's a 0.3% ratio of members to posts/day.

Any good designer plans for the future. Eventually(tm), bitcoin will be the universal currency. I'd imagine the bitcoin forums would be quite popular under those conditions.

That shit software won't scale beyond 50,000 users, let alone the millions on this forum.

If enough of us sign a petition using a non-reputable signature, we get unionization...
Really?  You sign a petition and magically things change to your advantage?  Are we living on the same planet here?

Honestly I don't know what your point is and what exactly you want to unionize.  Seems like you want a seniority system, which I'm pretty sure Theymos won't implement as far as rank determining how much of a voice you have in forum matters.  What matters most is your reputation and whether you can make logical arguments.

This forum is centralized whether you like it or not, and no amount of digital signatures on a shitty-ass petition is going to change that.

Maybe it was sarcasm.

Theymos is slave to the community. His todo list could be made public for all the forum to do. Distributed work is done faster with more nodes.
Theymos' todo list can be found there:
Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them)
Sometimes, theymos run contests to improve the forum, but it is not too often. The forum has nearly one-person-coded by theymos.
The Epochtalk forum, the new forum software has been here for too long, but there are limited developers help to test it. I don't think we should ask for more public sources if don't join and help the new forum software testing procedure. I am sorry but I am not a developer, so I can not join it, but if you or anyone else can and have spare time, you all should do it.

Trust is only a small part of the system, but the web of trust can easily be abused. Between activity, reputation, merit, and trust, I think we can find a common ground of systems.

Ok, so give us an example of the perfect system with no abuse please !

Most of this abuse are traceable here and acted upon by the community if you don't see.

LOL, that sounds funny , Theymos is a person with high morals and ethics, great technical, political even cooking knowledge and probably much more, on the other had you seem to find it hard to get some brain cells active at least. He was made an admin here as he was trusted, not because he wanted to be a slave of the community.

His to do list is not public, it's all about his own choices and time management too.

To be honest, posting here is a real responsibility too. It takes some thinking to write a post that

 - Doesn't offend anyone
 - Post an honest opinion on the drama around so you don't become the next target
 - Post something stupid or sarcastic because you never knew when newbies will pick it up and actually follow it

Why would you want to take over or make a new forum ?

This forum is run by people more organised, motivated and skilled than me.

They take care of the technical issues, financial costs and associated stresses.

Can just build a new forum with blackjack and hookers once the majority membership signs on.

Far too late at this point, with something like this it has to be implemented right from the start, otherwise it just goes to shit. Plus it just adds complexity for no reason...

Trust, merit, activity were added post-forum creation my friendly dude. I remember a time when none of these concepts were concepts here.

After the new DT changes, the system has already changed to a voting system, just use your trust list to participate in the voting process.

None of this petition would give shit here until theymos finds it worth implementing, you even don't know how many things are on his to do list anyways.

But if you see the good side of theymos's administration he already wants the community to get the power to decide who is trustworthy and who is not, so we should just respect this young mans thoughts.

Nope. That will never happen.

Even in real world, petition and shits never happen so it will not happen to in this forum. Do you think that you can just post a thread here like this and admins will agree with you when most of the users sign the petition?? Its pure stupidity.

In the end, admins and mods will be the final decision here so creating threads like this will be useless.

If enough of us sign a petition using a non-reputable signature, we get unionization... let's say 50% of membership, and we can do log(xxx) level, so even mods and admins get say, with a fuckton more votes.
Or we can pull an amazon™ on your bitch' ass since unions are for pussies.  Cool
