Security Flaw:

Of course, those who must be scrutinized closest are those at the centre of the system – in this case, Ian and I . . .

and anyone in our camp.

The first P-WIP was a triumph; but I neglected to note that the trade was between two people in one camp. The P-WIP is great -- but it can't be used for Verification.

Benefactor noted that it was an error for me to say that cragv has one ounce of silver – the person who sent it must vouch.

There is also the fact that – at present: I propose a change – a person who is Verified to receive one DVC can buy as trade as many DVC as she wants.

If there were collusion, that would be a stunt you’d pull.

So, a newcomer with small trades does a P-WIP with Bloke A. That newcomer-Bloke A trade can't be Verified by a TT.  Then Bloke A tries to vouch for that newcomer.

Nuh. Not good enough. Let's improve the protocol.

Thanks, Benefactor.

@BC, taking that a step further, one could also offer Mastercard/VISA prepaid debit cards via secure mail in exchange for cryptos. Of course, postage then factors in to the cost of the exchange for the buyer, but the relative anonymity of crypto remains whilst having fairly portable fiat.

@ Bitcoin Charlie: 'Mr Transactional' already buys Uno-priced gift cards from an Australian mob -- is that what you meant?

No, I can get numerous e-gift cards of different brands and would trade them to people in exchange for $UNO.

Each cert typically has a number and PIN that can be sent via bitcointalk.

I though it would be a good exercise in trust. The brands are iTunes codes, Land's End, Gap, etc.

Just a thought in our experiment to exchange in other modes of "currency"

Trading DVC:

10 days ago, one DVC was just under 12 Uno. Today it's a penny off 15. That's a 25% shift -- 'trading-instrument'

m

Damn! Not one of my better trades, but typical for me.  Grin

@ Verifying cragv: some one please 'second' this:
(a) 'cragv' is a newbie here; but he has been an associate of IndiaMikeZulu for well over a year.
(b) I can verify that he holds 2 oz of silver because I paid BigTimeSpaghetti for it, and had it mailed to cragv. (Say, 'Merry Christmas' with Uno!)
BigTimeSpaghetti could verify it, but the rest of us have no real proof.  It's best not to use derivative trust from a trusted trader, and instead go for the higher-grade proof.

I completely agree, Benefactor. The burden should be on the new trader with (I think) 3+ trades under his/her belt, followed by two photos of the same precious metal pieces (coin, bullion, etc.) in two different settings, as this is harder to fake.

Here is an album of my two legit photos for TT verification. Note the same silver bars (thanks IMZ!) in different settings, angles, light - this is difficult to convincingly fake. Also note the album contains an example of a faked verification photo (plus a Making Of collage for reference). This is why two photos in different settings makes sense to me for comparison - it's easy to create (just take two different photos and post them) but difficult to fake (image editing can only go so far for the average person). Cheers.

You're right, Benefactor. I shall ask BigTimeSpaghetti to vouch.

And let's clarify the policy: 'derivative trust' is unsatisfactory

I saw some talk about fiat currency:
I can take cash (WU, MG)/PayPal ($USD and $GBP/$EUR) and transfer it into any crypto-currency for free (as long as all fees are paid for).

Also, @mark: ticker location changed; http://bad.ass.ink/uno/ticker.html.

@ Bitcoin National -- still anxious to hear how you're gettin' on with your 'incorrect passphrase' problem.

@ My DVC: Ian has disbursed my DVC. I will be trading on 15/12 -- two more sleeps!

cragv trade #02: 10 Uno sent             [Wheeee -- purple! Wheeee -- maroon]

Guys, this is a big deal! IndiaMikeZulu calls it 'P-WIPing' -- 'Peer-to-peer-Website-Internet-banking-Phone.' It is the cornerstone of national chapters. So, Ian and I will sort out how to accept cragv's fiat. Go, us.

Loving the discussion here. Very exciting. Randomly met a bloke in the park this morning whilst walking our respective dogs and chatted about the state of the world (Russia + Turkey, China, India, USA etc.), banking, precious metals and cryptocurrency. Times they are a changing.

cragv trade #02: UNO received (gracias), am awaiting instruction for payment of my shiny, valuable fiat*. Thanks Mark & Ian!

*suckers!

so nice it needs to be said twice

P-WIPing is a big deal ... And I hope it catches on ... the ability to buy with $$ local via bank-bank transfer from a trusted peer ... just like localbitcoin for any that use it ... NEXT we figure how to link regional/national chapters and Badda-Bing-Baby!

Now here's the big dream ... you hold the true stores of value coins and build your trust/rep ... and in 2-3 years you will have little need or use of the traditional banking system to store or transfer value for you ... NOR ... will you have to even use the big exchanges.  Disintermediation is the big word for this idea.

But the true golden nugget ... UNO will be the leading 'distributed' and 'vaulted' coin on the virtual planet ... 0.01% of it will be in-trusted in the hands of big exchange houses (read the next Gox/MintPal).

cragv trade #02: WTB 10kg UNO for AUD$30.00 via PayPal (or USD$25.00 via PayPal).

Offer details:
- I'll send money to your PayPal first, then you send UNO, then we confirm in thread for mutual, public verification.

You should try friend and family option ... free in some cases.  I have a $usd account tends to only charge if you send to another country recipient (but under 1%).

Not many like the PP around here but it is useful ... if you have a PP card you can pull cash instantly ... but it is just a tool in the box of many tools.   Cheaper than bank wires.  I think of it like the ability to send cash from one Un-Ex regional office to the other regional office.

But since you mentioned banks ... this is un-thought of so far but is likely the very best way to send cash inner-regional.

We've got the States (ACH?), Aussie, and need some Euro-GBP banking network.  We should get Swiss, Canada, Singapore, HK, and Panama in the loop if we want to be like the rich folks.  This all helps push BTC price independence ... and if we get a fair $/uno market going at Blue then we have a $ spot price too.
