Belief among Republicans that Donald Trump is their next likely presidential candidate continues to rise despite his condemnation by nearly all the other GOP candidates for proposing a temporary ban on immigrants from Muslim countries.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 70% of Likely Republican Voters now believe Trump is likely to be their party’s nominee, with 31% who say it’s Very Likely. This overall figure is up from 68% last week but still falls short of the survey’s all-time high of 74% in late October. Interestingly, however, the number who say a Trump nomination is Very Likely has moved very little.

Only 27% of GOP voters think Trump is unlikely to win the nomination, with 10% who say it’s Not At All Likely.  (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Among voters who support Trump’s call for a temporary ban on Muslim immigrants, 73% think he is likely to be the nominee, with 39% who say it’s Very Likely.

Overall belief among Republican voters that the billionaire developer is likely to win the nomination had generally run in the mid-50s for most weeks since Rasmussen Reports began the weekly survey in mid-August until the terrorist attacks in Paris in November.  Since then his numbers have been climbing steadily through the 60s.

Never expected him to survive for so long, thought he will self-destruct. But he seems to be a Dark Horse. I really like his passion, aggressive tone but still he has to elaborate about his plans to improve economy, healthcare, and other critical issues. He deserves to be at top as no other competitor is as aggressive in his or her approach.
Trump has long been expected to fizzle out. However he does have a fairly large advantage in that he is self-financing his campaign, so he does not need to worry about appealing to donors the same way that the other candidates do, so the only thing that would cause him to drop out now would be low poll numbers, while other candidates could drop out because of either low poll numbers or low campaign donations.

I don't think he will be able to win the general election if nominated because, in part of his controversial views on immigration. Plus the blunt way that he speaks will often make him an easy target for the liberal media.

TRUMP SURVEILLANCE STATE WILL COMBAT ISLAM

--snip--
I am not even sure how effective this would be. ISIS has been able to recruit a number of Americans who have often not been Islamic prior to being recruited.

We are also nowhere near the state right now that would make it necessary to infringe of any group of people's rights that this would result in.

Trump can self finance his campaign but do you know how much of his own money he already spent so far? Google it.
Trump has been dead and killed and dead by the media non stop from the start and he is still here. On top. Yet you believe the media will kill and dead him "more"?
There is such a thing as over playing your cards, crying wolf and the mainstream media is doing just that. Non stop. Every time someone gets outraged by Trump they give him free time, non stop, sucking the air from everyone else. Trump knows his product very well: himself. Non stop.

Isis is already here. The next time you see a flash and body parts flying all over in a town near you, don't forget not to blame Trump, but the smart dude who said "isis a group of killers who are good at social media.".

He was then asked if heightened surveillance would require the registration of Muslims in a database and mandate special identification.
“We’re going to have to—we’re going to have to look at a lot of things very closely. We’re going to have to look at the mosques. We’re going to have to look very, very carefully.”

The program had the characteristics of an advanced police state—mapping of Muslim communities, photo and video surveillance, police informants, police “rakers” (ethnic cops who blended in Muslim communities), the widespread tracking of individuals and intelligence databases of the sort Trump endorsed.

Muslims sued the NYPD over the program. In October the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals found the Muslim plaintiffs raised sufficient allegations of equal-protection violations and reversed a decision made last year by a judge to dismiss the case.
Others have gone further than Trump in calling for draconian measures aimed at Muslims. For instance, David Bowers, a Democrat mayor in Virginia.

“I’m reminded that President Franklin D. Roosevelt felt compelled to sequester Japanese foreign nationals after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and it appears that the threat of harm to America from ISIS now is just as real and serious as that from our enemies then,” Bowers said.

If Rand Paul has better ideas, let's hear them.  And please don't go off on a talkfest a la Ron Paul about isolationism.  Let's hear the specific ideas that will combat terrorism by terrorists.

This is a thread about Trump, not Paul. Do you support this idea? Do you think the government will use it responsibly, and not abuse it by expanding what religion/ideology/race/class of people they think are terrorists? Do you see something wrong with the government enacting policies and agencies like this as a solution to problems they created?

If you can manage to say "trumped up" enough times in a row, fast enough that they all become a single, run-together sound, it sort of sounds like a skateboard going down a sidewalk.

That's right! When someone talks about "isolationism," he is really talking about governmental isolationism. Rather, crash the Federal Reserve Bank so that the banking system comes down, and the USA (common people) will soar, while the world goes into confusion.

I wonder who is really pulling his strings. He looks better than a lot of other candidates, but what will REALLY happen if he gets in. Probably the same as before... but maybe worse.

Trump is like any of the other crooks running for the Presidency. All of them want to keep the stupid System, and simply tweak it one way or another. Let me show you what would fix it all.

If a President would show the people how to legally and lawfully beat the IRS (how to volunteer out, because the income tax is truly voluntary), and then he put into effect the things necessary to shut down the Federal Reserve Bank... and one more thing - if he set freely usable Bitcoin up as the national currency - the strength of the world would collapse, but the strength of America would rise higher than ever.

None of the Presidents and candidates are worth the trouble that it takes to write even a short Bitcointalk post about them.

Both the primary political parties are corrupt to the core, it's really too bad our voting system punishes or ignores people for voting for anything other than the 2 primary candidates. Instant runoff voting (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-runoff_voting) would allow people to vote for the candidate they truly want to vote for, while ensuring your vote isn't wasted, or at worst, benefits the other party by splitting the vote. I doubt it'll ever be changed, it benefits neither of the 2 parties to change the system to one that would benefit third parties. Though it would eliminate the need for primaries, and stop populists like Trump from hijacking them, and holding the party hostage by threatening to run as an independent.

Democrats aren't even a party, it's just a coalition of groups who say whatever the people want to hear, or what polls well. That's not entirely a bad thing since they are supposed to be representatives of the people, but when you consider things like 40% of millennials support restricting speech that's offensive to minorities, it becomes dangerous to concede to popular opinions.

Republicans are no better, they spend their time sucking up to big corporations for donations, while trampling over the people.

Trump is on Barbara Walters show tonight. We will see what he has to say about his views on Isis.

He said exactly what everyone knew he was going to say.
I concur. He talks just like a sock puppet would. Saying what his views on the paris attacks and what he would do in the fight against isis: "We will bomb them where their leaders are and hit them hard!"
But you first have to find them first Mr. Trump  Cheesy

I must say as skeptical as I am about Trump, What Roger Stone has to say makes a lot of sense.

I think trump will gain more supporters now after he is officially trying to battle isis and his stand on not letting immigrants or refugees into U.S lands.

Trying to fight isis? Trump is the greatest ally of isis. Doing exactly what they want. Discriminating against muslims. Making muslims that live in the country unwelcome. Dividing society. What more could they ask for?

@Chef Ramsay so united fascist states of america? Marking muslims. That's what the nazis did to jews too.
