You don't have to be an expert on economics to understand what inflation is. Simply put, too many coins are being mined everyday with not enough buy support to sustain the existing new supply among the current supply. Until you have buyers (demand) for those new coins, price has no where to go but down. To ignore inflation or this very fact means you have been totally oblivious to the constant downward price action in your coin. But... if you are fine with that, continue disregarding inflation.

bitcoin, litecoin, and vertcoin are designed to have high inflation to allow early entrants in the first several years to get in at low cost, so the coin can hopefully be more widespread and effective as a currency. darkcoin (the coin you're primarily a proponent of based on your comment history) had a huge instamine, and then hard forked to change emission, so that almost 35% of the current coin supply (and almost 10% of the total coin supply) was mined in the first eight hours of the coin's life, then rewards were drastically reduced by hardfork. To be fair, vertcoin had it's own issues with instamine, likely due to poor difficulty retargeting when the hashrate was rapidly rising after the coin's release, resulting in 600k vtc being created in ~30 hours, but this is only about 5% of the current coin supply, and less than 1% of the total coin supply. vertcoin, however, didn't hardfork to reward the first day's miners (i.e., the dev(s)) with almost 35% of the current coin supply, like darkcoin did, giving themself/themselves an effective 10% premine.

I am pleased to announce Vertcoin will be changing its Proof of Work algorithm to Lyra2. Lyra2 is a password hashing scheme much like Scrypt that is not easily parallelizable and has scaling hardware difficulty that depends on memory and processing power.

Vertcoin has always been and will continue to be the leader in decentralization of cryptocurrency. Lyra2 is a natural successor of Scrypt providing an improvement on the same fundamental purpose – scaling hardware difficulty. The decision to move to this algorithm comes as a preemptive strike against ASICs and a move against Multipools. As many of you know, we have several concepts in the hopper to remain in step with the Vertcoin charter – Vertcoin’s [algorithm] is designed to resist the development of custom mining hardware and multipool mining, ensuring that transactions are validated by a widely distributed network and avoiding the selling pressure when large mining pools indiscriminately flood the market with freshly mined coins.

This means..we gotta push to get vertcoin to the point it deserves!

Changing an algo does not change the inflation rate that is killing the coin.

Just wonder, in your opinion:
Exactly the same inflation rate - is killing Litecoin or is not?

Yes, as well as lack of innovation.

dude... just ignore everybody that mentions the word "inflation".
This whole "inflation" debate is  completely pointless. Somebody heard somewhere a few buzzwords and decided that he is now the Master of them economical models, so he should now come here and enlighten us all...
Pointless, every time.

I believe in VERT!

So do I. It's still one of the most profitable coins to GPU mine if you have cheap electricity and the hardware already.

'Scuse me, did I miss something?
Are these "urima" and "urima2" accounts somehow related to the development team? And if yes, how exactly?

They're not, that text is from a previous blog post.

Good to know the new devs are more active in the community. I hope the switch to lyra2 will help VTC.

Hi Folks!
I think Vert Coins is the future for the ones who mine with graphic cards of low power, and this way we avoid big entrepreneurs with their big machines.
Share this with everyone and make the VertCoin price rise up to the the point it belongs.

Easy to mine, secure, with N-Scrypt tech to avoid big and powerful machines to mine. Lite and Bit coins are no longer wrth it to mine.

Shoot me your thoughts.

I thought scrypt algos didn't work on 14.x?

EDIT: They also seem optimized for 6xxx, not GCN devices (7xxx and up)...

Oh yes, they do and they also do better (for me). I use 14.4 and according to my testing, that is the latest driver that works (280x unmodified bios, use MSI Afterburner for lowering the voltage, don't know why but it works!).

Good day to all,

I'm new with Scrypt-N and looking for a much stable tool. I've tried the vertminer 0.5.3 and sgminer 5 but having some HW errors. Any help with the configurations of R9 270X GPU? Thanks in advance  Smiley

I think you might want older drivers for vertminer (I used thekev miner with 13.12 (old) drivers), and newer drivers for sgminer 5. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please...

You need 13.xx drivers, I think.

13.12 is decent but 14.4 is way more stable. I use 0.5.3 but I can provide you all the miners I have if needed.
Please let me know.

EDIT: You might want to check out this page: http://www.verters.com/vertcoin-hardware-list

I'm using 14.6 now. I'll try to check those drivers later tonight. Hope I can get rid of those HW errors. Thanks for the help guys.. Much appreciated and btw more thanks to Wolf0 neoscrypt kernel  Wink

No wonder you have HW errors. 14.6 is only good for X11. I got <200 KHs with my 280x instead of 350 on 14.6 with lots of HW errors and random vertminer crashes. 14.9 is even worse. Vertminer was not able to change anything on the card on that version (core, ram freq, etc).

14.4 is rock solid, though (at least for me).

I have always used 13.12 drivers and GUI Miner Scrypt v0.05. Yes, it has vertcoin support (use file -> new miner -> vertminer).

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/guiminer-scrypt-a-guiminer-fork-for-mining-scrypt-chains-150331

thread concurrency: 10240
vectors: 1
gpu threads: 1
use stratum: yes
extra flags: --gpu-engine 1100 --gpu-memclock 1500 --gpu-powertune 20
or use --gpu-engine 900 --gpu-memclock 1250 /*for more efficiency*/
worksize: 256
intensity: 18

You seem to not be stupid, based on your settings - why use GUIMiner?

When i mined scrypt-n for the first time i had harware errors because i didn't know that i need to set environment variable gpu_max_alloc_percent and with GUI miner it worked anyway. But today i don't use GUI Miner anymore, i only thought it could be easier for some people. I also know sweet spots of all graphics cards.

MSI R9 270: gpu ~1115, memory 1500
R9 290: gpu 867 or 925 or 947, memory 1250
R9 290 OC: gpu 1000 or 1040, memory 1500
7950: gpu 1125, memory 1250 or 1420 ;-)

Nice, or?
