Implement the new algo in all the wallets including mobile (10/15/2014)

Has there been any progress? I have been long awaiting the day our community will thrive. I will be glad to add a few thousand vert as an incentive to the wonderful dev's that are apart of vertcoin.

Any official leaks on the progress?

So let us declare that VTC is a GPU coin. We will change the PoW algorithm whenever is necessary to fend off ASIC. So no ASIC miner will appear publicly. If we find out a secret ASIC in operation, we will change algorithm straight away.

If a algorithm is GPU friendly despite using large amount of memory, would that also be ASIC friendly?
Good question! Problem is, when in the design phase, an ASIC is still a very vague thing. They have a lot of weapons we don't and I see no way to put this in ELI5 version. Sure thing is using more memory increases resistance but other means must also be explored.

There are usually not even GPU otimized kernels, and GPUs have been on mass market for nearly 20 years.

Making something quantum resistant is not considerably different from ASIC resistant.

If something can be computed then it can be optimized, the hardware can be optimized. With quantum computing not being a real product and with basically no expertise available, you can bet no VTC quantum computing will take place in the next 10 years.

Be real. There are usually not even GPU otimized kernels, and GPUs have been on mass market for nearly 20 years.

Yes, changing algo at the end of November (thanks valsens).

Hi,

the fact that there is a buzz about quantum computing :
http://www.bitcoinnotbombs.com/bitcoin-vs-the-nsas-quantum-computer/

why dont we make vertcoin the first quantum resistant coin ?

great to see vertcoin devs are present on such conferences! Smiley
I think we should wait for the dev to finish lyra2RE. New developers need much time to work themselves in.
and I don`t think it would be fair to change dev.

So let`s wait till end of november and buy cheap coins;)

keeping the same devs but adding resources could be helpful and help them in the future.

i can't understand anything ... voice is not clear ... and accent is not really helping

Someone posted summary in reddit comments: http://www.reddit.com/r/vertcoin/comments/2izmb1/hashes_united_day_2_video_link/cl775az

Summary of what he says: (sort of) He believes that for altcoins, working to get away from ASIC miners is critical to altcoin success. In Vertcoin's case they are planning to fork into Lyra2 soon. Important aspects of a good quality coin is good intentions, good team and good execution. Another member of the panel from a cloud mining/mining website reflected on how the development team for Vertcoin is great. I don't want to butcher the Vertcoin developer's name so I will omit that. Heavy (Thai?) accent, but I had little problems making out what he was saying. Gentlemen-like in that he was always paying attention to who is speaking so he could move the table mic over a foot or two. Nothing really new here, but cool to see one of the developers!
