In late 2013 fontas' pumps kept getting shittier and shiiter. They degraded to a 2 hour period where he'd tell the troll box "pump starts now" and then "dump starts now" and you'd get this 2 hour bart chart. At some point he was selling memberships to learn about his pumps ahead of time for 25BTC each but by that time it was like a bad joke or a scam because his "pumps" were so terrible. He was supposed to make it up and have a super pump of litecoin on mtgox. Litecoin never opened on mtgox but then China took over and pumped it into the stratosphere way further than gox or fontas ever could have. I think he saw that with China on board with all the altcoins, he could no longer be in control, and he quietly disappeared. I saw him continue to make charts about other asset classes (like forex) on TradingView. I'm going to also guess that he wanted to distance himself from crypto for legal concerns and mixer his way out while he still could and the whole btce crime ring was still undercover and operational.Ahh the old midas is coming with the LTC. Always thought that he was a scam, and the only one making money by offloading when "pumps are turned on". Oh well another page in cryptocurrency book

i did look through the richardmille watch site, the one with dragon figures seemed okish
but $800k+ for a watch. lulz. no matter how rich i became, i would never pay that for a watch.
now, i could see myself with one of those olde skool red LED watches from the 70's.. press the button to light up the time. THOSE were cool.
I was watch shopping last year in Vegas, note that when you're in Cartier in Caesars, and they say they don't have what you want, but the Wynn probably does you're talking 150btc+. I'd recommend a 1960's Hamilton Electric, Titan or Ventura. The fact that you can keep it running will point you out as a man of means. :-)

Fine. Except we don't know how many (nor which ones) of those VPN service providers are controlled by evil actors. So while it does help in some way, it also is not the panacea.
You know that openvpn is just the software and you need to connect to a VPN service provider... don't you?
P.S.: And if you meant that you can run the server side too and connect to your own VPN, that's not what we are discussing here as it completely defeats the purpose of masking your own transactions.

More details would help but on first instance yes, it would help... As soon as there is nothing that can associate you with that VPN (ie: you pay with credit card, etc). The VPN provider would of course see all the traffic you route through them.
Cellphone/PC is almost the same in this case. Also take into account that there are additional ways to fingerprint devices or identify you if you use that same VPN for other things (such as web browsing).
For a "one-time-hit" it would be better to use a free wifi somewhere (without cameras around) with a clean OS (TAILS may be a good choice here). Expect your traffic to be captured... but it is assoting with your person what you were worried about, didn't you?
If you are concerned about the goverment I would just to try stay under their radar and keep a low profile IRL. As soon as you aren't moving millions, be involved in some bigger scheme even if you are a little fish, etc etc... you probably are not on their radar. If you were.... there's not much you can do if they are REALLY determined on getting you.
If they, hypotetically, were already sniffing your online activity, they would see you are using an VPN and try to subpoena (or obtain by other means) the VPN provider. That is highly unusual though as they prefer to resort to more "conventional" means of investigation which are also usually more effective.
