this hodl philosophy will really hurt bitcoin one day. this could end in some kind of deflation spiral, nobody uses bitcoin to buy stuff because stuff will be much cheaper tomorrow.

to solve this hodl problem we need a new kind of service. A combination of payment and exchange service. with this service it should be possible to pay for something in bitcoin and also instantly exchange the same amount of fiat back to bitcoin - payhodl.com!

Trust me, when most of your wealth is tied up in bitcoins, you will spend them.

The flaw is thinking that people that get it will be holding very much fiat to spend. Maybe enough for a restaurant or groceries for the week but the big things like travel, large purchases, etc. are done with bitcoins.

Guys, is hodl a paradox? When are we supposed to enjoy our riches? I've never had riches before. Should I be living in a richly place now? I've never lived in a richly place before.

I just don't know.

Some time back, I bought my wife an Instant Pot (fancy pressure cooker) with Bitcoin at a 25% discount via Amazon/Purse.io. Told her by using Bitcoin (which was already way up for me), it was the cheapest Instant Pot money could buy.  Grin  Cool

Then Bitcoin quintupled.

Now she looks at the Instant Pot and says, "Most expensive fucking Instant Pot money could buy." Tongue  Roll Eyes  And sits there scheming over all the things she could have bought HODLing instead.

So yes. HODL is a paradox. Yes indeed.

Nevermind I bought all the dips on the way up. Nevermind I can retire early now. That fucking Instant Pot will always be my HODL reminder.

"Yes honey, it's a lovely house, but we could have bought a fucking castle, you idiot!"

To solve this hodl problem we need to hodl til fiat no longer exists. Then 1BTC is equal to 1BTC and I hope by then  we'll have managed the deflation "problem" spiral

Sir.. that is where you are wrong about bitcoin! Smiley

When the world will dump all its resources into bitcoin, the only way to make bitcoin rise again will be to create economic growth. So basically bitcoin will grow as much as there will be new people, new processed raw resources into higher value items with a demand. So when it will reach its peak it will just be very stable, the trading will have a bit of volatility, but the real growth will be lets say as an example 5-10% per year as the GDP growth of humanity / planet earth / solar system...etc.  Smiley

It's not 1MB to 2MB. It's more like ~4MB to ~8MB.

orly? What percentage of blocks since SegWit activation have been 4MB?

You're gonna go with that? You realize jgarzik is the lead btc1 dev, right? He's contributed more to Bitcoin than have most core devs and most blockstream devs. Not to mention his huge contributions to Linux before Bitcoin even existed. Your contributions for comparison?

And the team don't seem to care much about censorship resistance, either.

Bald assertion lacking supporting evidence.

Node operators, besides trusting the 2x Team to do the right thing technically, must be WANTING to take that step. I, for one, am not.

You're free not to take that step. Careful you don't end up standing exposed in the vast minority. Cold out there.

I just don't know.

Pick a small % (somewhere between 5 and 20%) and a starting price.  Every time price doubles from your starting price, sell your chosen percent.  Use a spreadsheet to pick the percent that gives you a mix of fiat and btc you can live with, assuming the wildest valuation you can think of, then stick with it.  If you have spare fiat, buy a fixed $ (or euro, or whatever) amount every week.  Then relax and enjoy the ride.

Food for thought. Thanks.

I finally have something to study during the dumps. Excellent contribution guys and well done to those who thought about such sites. The road to early retirement is still long but with the good incentives and the right plan that is not impossible to achieve.

The boatman on the river Styx now accepts Bitcoin. Cool

you know why? someone told this guy that there is an investment out there which existed for approximately 2500 days. investors who invested on 2474 of those days made a profit. only 26 days where the price was higher than today.  Smiley

Or alternatively, someone told Charon that there is something called fiat money which has existed for around a century.  Anyone holding fiat money during the past century has basically lost their shirt in terms of purchasing power.  Thus people who hold bitcoin at least retain (even gain) some purchasing power as the relative price vs fiat keeps rising.

I'm bullish but in the back of my mind I have the same thoughts as BMB. Also the same thoughts on whether I'm a forever hodler and will die hodling.

Surely some? I can not imagine a situation where I have 0 BTC

Exactly this.
