I am Bill Gates.

Well, Bill...will you sort out your fucking OSes...I gave up after XP and my wife's version of Win8 is so frustrating, the updates take forever.

I gave up on my OS a while ago and use OSX. The money keeps rolling in. What do I care? Shhh...

I think there is internal manipulation going on in gox, so they can buyback the BTC they were running on by fractional reserve so they can handle everyones withdrawals.

+1

Every since I first started watching the charts I automatically thought "What are they going to make it do now?" when watching Gox. Never got the same feeling with the others. I guess it's the Willy bot. That's got to be an internal thing - any reasonable exchange manager would have cut the API to the puppet master long ago!

Well this is exactly the kind of sentiment that you usually see around a big reversal too. There has to be despair and kind of a hopeless feeling that there's no upside left and everything is going down to shit.

Exactly. Capitulation turns into despair. People like to say "buy when there's blood in the streets" as if it is an everyday occurrence but the thing is that in a real dive the blood in the street is also yours. It's no longer "where is the bottom" but "will there even be a bottom?" People get afraid to buy. It tests one's will to even hold, let alone buy.

How are you feeling right now? Just out of interest.  Grin

What if most people on gox have already gone full btc thinking that the low would be 500, 400, 300, 200...? Billy may have dispersed so many coins into the market that btc is going to go lower from here no matter what. If most people are already full btc, with little fiat left, then the price won't go up as much on gox as I expected given that mtgox enables withdrawals again. Instead, arbitrage to other exchanges will be a major factor in leveling the price over the other exchanges because of the major increase in supply caused by Billy. At first I thought that gox enabling withdrawals would cause the price to go from where it is now to 700-900 or even more, and I expected that the other exchanges would follow the price, that there might be some arbitrage to lower the price on other exchanges but after the period of volatility a net increase. Now I think the price is going down no matter whether mtgox enables withdrawals, or says they need more time, or actually goes bankrupt.

Next week we'll work on "cow." The cow goes mooooooo.

in which language the cow goes mooooo ? English ? hahahahaah

The varying onomatopoeia for animal noises across cultures is very interesting - for example while dogs in English go 'woof', in Korean (IRC) they go 'bow wow'.  The noise for pigs varies quite dramatically too.

Great. I come here for some insight and the discussion is on animal noises.

Just the rockets.

[...]
My picture of the typical Huobi client is a low or middle-class person, who does not understand English, has no programming knowledge, and keeps his bitcoins in his Huobi account.  He cannot use bitcoins to pay for things in China and does not usually travel outside the country.  Would he need to download the software and/or create a private wallet in order to open an account at Huobi?

Is this peer-revieewed science?

Yes. His brain and his heart have both confirmed the findings.

not a very clever thought, at that.  it would be very expensive to sell bitcoins at half off the market price.  instead, they would be buying coins, not too quickly, but continuously, at these levels, and selling them on other exchanges.  this would have the effect of pushing down the prices on other exchanges.  or if they were really clever, they'd just be buying them cheaply on gox, and freezing them until summer.

Buy now and then sell in the summer for $100?  That wouldn't be too clever if indeed the price goes down to $100.

I can't find the reply that first posted this, but it deserves to be re-posted IMHO:
http://trilema.com/2014/mtgox-and-ancient-bitcoin-history-the-straight-dope/

MP is a professional scoundrel who even calls Coinbase a scam without having any conceivable way of proving what he alleges.
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/mpoe-prs-list-of-things-you-always-suspected-were-scams-but-never-dared-say-so-140484
Note he took icbit.se off his scam list because they paid him.

His nebulous operation works in the same sphere as the scams and some allege he runs one himself:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/mpexco-the-scientology-of-bitcoin-finance-350103
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/list-of-ongoing-scams-216280

There have been plenty of scams in Bitcoin and there will continue to be. This is why some in the U.S. push for regulations because even though regs won't stop crime it will create more reliable and accountable services. Pro tip: this is essentially why strict Libertarianism doesn't work.

Where exactly is the upside of holding btc now, except for if your btc is stuck on gox?

If you're on bitstamp and haven't sold yet I'm not sure what's going through your head

So, by extension, since it takes one hour to deposit BTC, your statement is equivalent to:

If you're [holding bitcoin] and haven't sold yet I'm not sure what's going through your head.

[...] and MtGox appears to be almost completely decoupled from the broader market.  Very strange and interesting to watch.
Just witnessed a ~900 BTC buy spike on gox to which (inexplicably, for me at least) all the other markets reacted immediately.
If we're still moving together with Gox on ups / downs, it means it's high time to wire all the fiat in there and buy the hell out of them cheap BTCs right about now.
