It's not very nice of them to just execute all queued orders now...

Anyone care to comment what kind of resources might be required to sustain what appears to be (by volume) a nearly 7 hour DDOS against Gox, assuming they are using Akamai (for whatever exact reason they said they were), and Midas (as seems to be the case) is *not* running?

a vivid imagination

He says buy orders are working fine but sells are not.
lol

what i really don't get is the difference to situation during april.
gox has constantly lost volume since then and yet they still struggle to keep their shit running.
no other exchange had problems in goxlike dimensions. (i saw some lag on stamp, but not that bad)

The good folks at Gox are pioneers in the field of incompetency.

It actually astonishes me that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Front_running doesn't get talked about more.

Fuck those guys.

I really, really doubt that.

And you have to remember China volume is at least half fake.

Huh? Did you just create that statement or do you have something to back it up with?
Whatever your opinion, you can't take the volume numbers as "real" as long 0% fees incentivize volume manipulation. How much manipulation is happening is anyone's guess. But I think to assume that what we are seeing for volume = what we would see with > 0% trading fees is misguided.

If this China volume is fake due to 0% fees, why would it stop now? I see even more manipulators lining up to increase profits if its this easy to do so.

Seeing 20k volume go by in an hourly view, with a price rise that would require no more than a 2k buy... thats fake volume.

E.G.

2k away from, say, 2300.

Look at bitcoinity "1h" view"

See 15+ 500+volume data points, all going up; price still hasnt reached 2300 (Again, example)

Impossible. Fake volume.

I saw this happen earlier with 2200.

I agree some of the volume might be fake, but that is no reason to not buy bitcoin. If anything it is a reason to buy bitcoin, because I do not see the fake volume just coming to an end soon.

Just talked to karpeles via personal cell. He says buy orders are working fine but sells are not. Not exactly sure what the problem is, but has determined this is a new kind of ddos. Should be resolved by end of the month.

LOL, best laugh of the day.

Honestly, this has got to be a joke.

It doesn't even make sense.. He's "not exactly sure what the problem is", but still determined it's DDOS. But wait, it's a DDOS that apparently can last forever. But wait, because apparently they can fix the supposed DDOS they don't understand in an amazing time frame of no less than 20 days ! Just wow.

Such a problem does not exist. Bullshit levels have crossed the 10 day average.

Walsoraj may seem a bit trolly sometimes, but you need to realize... ...that he just Goxed you!

Very well played, might I add.

I have started a policy of ignoring anyone who openly admits to trading on gox. I encourage everyone to do the same. The content of this thread has greatly improved.

Maybe it's time to start a thread listing everyone who trades on gox to publicly chastise them to do the right thing.

Why do you feel everyone needs to agree with you about Gox.  If I lived in Japan you can bet your ass MtGox would be my first choice.  For certain people it really is the best option.  Just because it doesn't fit your needs well doesn't mean every single person should shun it.

is there actually a better alternative than Gox for traders who want to trade in euro? And i'm not talking trading systems like bitcoin.de... Something with a real live trading market like bitstamp or gox. In this case Gox is probably the only choice for those traders. Not everyone wants to be exposed to the exchange rate risk dollar/euro has.

If you don't need the Gox Streaming API you can use btc-e

The delay showed right now by trading.i286 is 51 minutes, but I believe it's larger.
That's because I placed a tiny buy order, to test the delay, and after 53 minutes it still didn't show up.
This sucks. I am getting pissed off. Time to rest and wait for return to normal.  Angry

Gox is amazing. I guess it is a hidden blessing as really, they are the basis for other exchanges popping up.

A demonstration that Bitcoin is a Hydra, or to refer to a book that is mostly rehashing ideas well-known since the Ancient Greeks, it is "Anti-fragile"...  Roll Eyes

does bitstamp not offer that? I can't see btc-e lasting too long before they are shut down due to accusations of money laundering. I was part of the bitcoin-24 disaster (got my money back) but btc-e seems vulnerable to the same thing.
