Each state's conservation department usually keeps track of this, and adjusts the deer permits available in hunting season to try to balance.

If I see an obviously wasting or injured deer on my land, it will be lights out for them on compassionate grounds.

As I mentioned, the neighbors are avid deer hunters, so they can control the population.

I'll be blowing away any hogs I see with extreme prejudice. The feral hogs here are very gamey and not really good for consumption, so they are usually left to the carrion eaters out there, and are picked clean within a week.
