On 20 June 2019, Bukele announced his "Territorial Control Plan" which would increase policing of certain areas of the country in an effort to combat high crime rates and gangs in the country.[34][35] Both the National Civil Police (PNC) and the Armed Forces of El Salvador (FAES) would also be equipped with better firearms, ammunition, and vests as a part of the Territorial Control Plan.[34] As a result of his Territorial Control Plan, El Salvador's homicide rate fell 52 homicides per 100,000 people in 2018, the highest in the world at the time,[36] to only 3.7 homicides per 100,000 people in January 2020.[37]

Bukele founded the International Commission Against Impunity in El Salvador (CICIES) (es) on 6 September 2019.[38] The institution's purpose is to combat a variety of crimes, including drug trafficking, corruption, and white collar crimes.[38] He also established an anti-corruption unit within the National Civil Police which would cooperate directly with CICIES.[38]

... as per wiki El President is something of a populist autocrat who's cleaned the place up considerably in two short years, sacked a whole bench of corrupt supreme court judges and still has >90% approval ratings, just got voted back in on a super majority

... tbh I like a good autocrat, especially if they are competent, straight, honest-shooters and democracy has gone off the rails. Democracy is not perfect and countries come in all cultures, shapes and sizes, take a look at Singapore for a hugely successful autocracy.

Well to be fair the largest percentage of murders since he got in office are the gov rather than straight up criminals but it is going to take years before its safe for a westerner to walk around that country without guards. I give it a good decade and if they stay on the Bitcoin standard they will be a world leader in area in 20 years.

3. No capital gains tax for #Bitcoin, since it will be a legal currency.

... damn this sounds tempting. Will be really interesting to see what happens next with El Salvador welcoming the 'smartest people in the room'.

M. Saylor move...wow, but they are SENIOR notes and HIGH YIELD (aka "junk") at 6.125% interest.
6.125% interest on 500mil is 30.625 mil yearly interest. MSTR has only 81 mil EBITDA.
Basically, it is an "all in" kind of move.
Senior bondholders are in a pole position to get everything the company holds in a hypothetical case of a company going bankrupt...for example by not being able to service it's debts.

Next earnings report will be not good:
"The Tysons Corner, Virginia-based company said in a filing Monday that it’s taking a roughly $284.5 million charge during its next earnings report due to losses related to fluctuations in the price of the digital asset. That amounts to more than the company’s cumulative earnings since 2011."

Hopefully, WS would treat it as one-off.
This is potentially dangerous for the long term company survival, UNLESS he has some ace up his sleeve, and maybe he has, at least i hope so.

It worries me too.

I think his ACE is simple "Number Go up".

I hope for his sake as well as ours he's right.  I imagine his balls touch the water when he sits...

Pretty safe bet me thinks.

Well let's just say, if the bitcoin price is not at least double where it sits today in 7 years, then yeah 'Houston we have a problem'.

HA HA! Guys, after years of holding, I sold 4 hrs ago into Fiat. And now it pumps. Pathetic  Cheesy I sold all of my Solana because it pumped the last days. Anyway, big in profit. Traded 1 BTC into Solana 2 months ago and as I sold it was worth 1.75 BTC. I just was not sure if I should trade into BTC or Fiat. Because of the bearish sentiment I chose Fiat so I could buy back more BTC later if it dumps. Was gambling. Lets see, I dont trust the pump yet. But the volume looks very good! And it feels good to have soma Fiat on the side if its a fake breakout.

All good things to those who wait
Shorts squeeze time! Yesterday btw on paypal were traded bitcoins for $300 mil. Imagine what will happen when bitcoin buying is allowed in the rest of the world on paypal. Then good luck to the china communist party to block people using paypal. Of course, nothing can be compared with the El Salvador news. I knew that this will happen one day, but here we are now. Every news agency is reporting this. I used to argue with the energy guys that this energy for mining is not wasted. There are many people who have no access to the banking system, while bitcoin can be easily introduced and used by them. And here is the proof - 70% of that population has no access to the banks! The implications are so many that practically every FUD invented so far is invalidated.

But the fear is that the feds might have gotten some assistance from Bitcoin or from the currency exchange holding the funds, either through cooperation or through a subpoena.

Yup. Nice to see "Bitcoin" cooperating with the FBI. What a civic-minded bunch they are.

Mind-numbing.

And noobs telling me they must have cracked bitcoin, used a supercomputer, etc.

Annoying.
