A 70-year-old LA woman reportedly lost her home and Bitcoin savings in wildfires after her private key, stored on paper, was destroyed.
Wildfires have burned over 15,000 acres in Southern California, displacing residents and affecting businesses, including crypto firms.
Crypto firms like Swan Bitcoin and BlockDaemon have reported significant losses as wildfires devastate Southern California businesses.

Poor grandma. This is exactly why we should always have a backup location for our hard wallets. Even if we don’t anticipate these things, they can still happen. It was not only her house that was lose but she also lost her Bitcoin investment. It’s a tough situation, but it’s a strong reminder of how important it is to have proper backups, and things should be planned ahead.
No one were expecting wildfire like this here I am agreed with @philipma1957 they spend too much on illegal things but for their own peoples they have nothing.
Poor grandma have no way to keep backup of wallet so she lost anyone can go like this feeling sad for her lost as she is now 70 years old minimum chances of having anything like this in the future.

What kills me Is I am center left guy.

But the new left is so fucking nuts 🌰 I end up 🆙 siding with conservatives.

I just shut off the tv as I was watching the crap called the news.

How do you not say that california leadership did a complete fail that you could aruge leaves them prosecutable for criminally negligent homicide?

To leave a 117 million gallon reservoir empty for 11 months in a high brush fire area is an absolutely ridiculous move.

This video should be called "Three geniuses try to make a BTC transaction". For this in the middle it is quite clear that there is no idea what it is about, but those two are not some experts also.

You don't have to care much about your hardware wallet, but the seed(s) should be stored separately, in a form that is resistant to extreme conditions.

How to address this?
Stainless steel and letter punch.
No more words needed.

Thanks, I didn’t realize this before. It’s actually very simple and safe since even in the event of a fire, the seed phrase will still be preserved.

I’m definitely interested in this, but I think I’ll need to train myself by watching YouTube videos to learn how to engrave. I just can’t bring myself to trust someone else to do the job for me.  Grin

Oh ah that's really bad ,  Poor grandma!  Losing her home in a wildfire is bad  enough, but to lose your life savings in Bitcoin on top of it,ah  that is just pain full  .  It's a harsh  reminder that even the most secure  methods can fail anyone  in an unknown situation.  This isn't just about HODLing, it's about smart HODLing. We need to be better than this by  Multiple backups,  Different locations,or kept in a secured fireproof safe.  This isn't caution, this is  preservation!  Let's all check our own setups and make sure we're not setting ourselves up for a similar tragedy.
