EDIT: Oh yeah, it seems the following night should be the first clear night here since a couple of weeks (well... no, i'm not in the UK), so i can get more data on the heart nebula (most recent pic) and present some clean, more detailed version, though the full moon will not make it easier for me.

We've had a good run of clear nights here (Aust) - not getting much sleep. I have the Tarantula Nebula lined up, but the moon is at 99% tonight :-(

Man who stares at charts (and stars, too...)
Hey @HairyMaclairy, have a warm "welcome back" from me as well, though with a little delay...  Grin

I have been kept busy by parenting and work, which i picked up again, after summer break, as i need some money for Christmas, and the trial against my insurance seems to be in a waiting state. (Mr. Judge, are you there?)

Some minor shitcoin position i had on an exchange triggered a sell, getting me a lil moar of those corn. No life changing, more of a day changing amount, but it's always good getting rid of shitcoins. In this case i got them by subscribing to some shit on the internet and receiving a batch of premined, worthless coins in return. Noice  Cool

OT:
A friend of mine, which i probably mentioned earlier this year got rid of his stomach cancer, still refusing Chemo. The nurse delivering his test results was more than impressed. Another friend, who called him, said he told him that his Dad made him take some Supplement, but he can't remember the name. I will call Jesus Junior in the next few days and post more detailed info here, maybe it's of use for somebody on the WO.
He already had a third of his stomach removed surgically, i don't remember exactly if the tumor cells have already spread after that.
Wolrd of wonders...

Yeah I didn’t hang onto the BFX shitcoins. Sold them right away as I had stopped trusting BFX.  Took a 50% loss or so.

So the US govt has my coins. Nemo dat quod non habet. Etc

This rule is exemplified in circumstances like the Holocaust reconciliation movement, where property, such as works of art, stolen or confiscated by the Nazis was returned to the families of the original owners. Anyone who purchased the art or thought they had ownership was denied any rights over the litigious property due to the nemo dat rule.
I could always sue the US government but probably can’t be arsed.

I am not sure if the holocaust property is a very good parallel precedent for a situation like this, and if you might have had disputed the way that Bitfinex treated the "hack" you might have needed to raise some legal concerns to even proclaim against the US Govt once the US Govt got the coins.  Sure it is possible that if you have some good lawyers with some good legal theories, you might be able to file a law suit that won't get you laughed out of the court. Seems like a pretty decent long shot to me.

This is not OK.

Hmm, how does one 'buy-in'? Signed message from a wallet containing a minimum quantity of coins? That'd be nice and exclusive Smiley

US hacker sentenced over Bitcoin heist worth billions

Ilya Lichtenstein pleaded guilty last year in the case involving the Bitfinex cryptocurrency exchange being hacked in 2016 and the theft of almost 120,000 bitcoin.

Morgan also pleaded guilty last year to one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering. She is due to be sentenced on 18 November.

Some of those are my coins, you assholes.

Wonder if I can sue them?

I am pretty sure that ONLY Bitfinex has standing in regards to claims of ownership of those remaining 94k bitcoins (or whatever might be the current number of BTC that the US government is holding).

As a prior holder of those coins, you could still sue, but your suit may well get thrown out fairly quickly for lack of standing and/or timeliness of your claim, since recall that in about August 2016 when those coins were initially "hacked," Bitfinex created various kinds of socialize the loss tokens and also equity in the lost coins tokens.

The socialize the loss tokes resolved themselves by around April 1, 2017 when Bitfinex bought out whatever were remaining of those tokens around that time.  There are likely some of the holders of the equity tokens that want to get their equity payout, but there claim would be against Bitfinex to make all good efforts to recover those coins.. whatever is remaining around 94k BTC remaining out of the 119 bitcoin that were hacked in August 2016.

I am surprised (but maybe not so surprised) that the US Govt has been able to hang onto those 94k BTC for so long without giving them back to Bitfinex, yet nation states engage in all kinds of injustices, and I doubt that Bitfinex and the US Govt are exactly on buddy buddy terms.

I had some BTC on Bitfinex at the time of the August 2016 hack, and I received that 36% socialize of loss payout, which was a bit of a rip off because of the way that the socialize the loss tokens were priced in the dollar value at the time of the hack and so then those tokens almost immediately reduced in value by 50%-ish because they were allowed to trade, and even though Bitfinex bought out all of the remaining socialize the loss tokens at 100% on about April 1, 2017, the BTC price had shot up during that time so there was some opportunity loss in value in regards to those socialize the loss tokens, but overall on a personal level, I still did somewhat Ok. in that situation since I did not sell my socialize the loss tokens at less than 20% their value as a lot of people seemed to be doing with those (even though I did sell some of mine at a reduced cost, not too many).

I did not buy any of the Equities token, and I am thinking that they did not even allow USA citizens to buy those equities tokens.

Holy shit, is Gensler on his way out? Has he been told to pack his bags? I sure hope so.

https://www.cnbc.com/2024/11/14/gary-gensler-reviews-accomplishments-was-proud-to-serve-as-sec-chair.html

That guy was so two-faced: supposedly such a proponent of Bitcoin ("not a security"), and yet did every obstructionist thing he could do to get in the way of its adoption and the ETFs. Obviously he was being paid by someone to slow it down. And he harassed brokers and exchanges with bullshit lawsuits and fines while never clearly defining the rules.

What a tool, good riddance.
BREAKING:  Gary Gensler releases statement hinting at resignation as SEC Chair.

Let's also not forget, that it was under Gary Gensler's watch that FTX was allowed to not only exist with zero oversight, but also thrive for several years, only in the end to destroy people's lives with jaw-dropping Ponzi mega fraud.
