Which wallets are the best for keeping a wide variety of altcoins?
Unfortunately until now i don't find a single wallet that can store all you coins in it. But if you are looking to store your erc 20 token, i suggest buying ledger nano S, it's cheap and your tokens will be safe in it. If you don't want to spend money then you can use myetherwallet but be carefeul because there's so many phising sites.

I personally use exodus.

recently they have also released the Eden version which essentially has even more ERC20 token support and a whole range of new features. you should check them out if you haven't still, they have lots of positive reviews.

You also control your own private keys with them.

Coinomi would be your best bet. I also used Jaxx but let me down, too slow to load, some significant issue seems unable to solve. Plus, Jaxx no longer supports older android phones while Coinomi still supports it.

I use Coinomi for altcoins but be sure to keep your private key to a safe place or screenshot everything. it's a secured wallet and i highly recommended this wallet

Exodus good common wallet. But I would use for each coin in your own wallet.

I would choose Coinomi as a wallet that has a level of compatibility with many coins that can be used. Security features become very important because coinomi has a security level that I think is pretty good. but back again maybe the existing wallet from the developers of each coin remains the best.

I am using myetherwallet in all my altcoins , because most the altcoins that are being given to user must be ERC20. You just keep your seed phrase or your private key so that you are the one who can open it. And beware for phishing , you must be very careful in clicking , and be very extra careful in reading the spelling of some myetherwallet sites.

I would look at Exodus/Eden for desktop and Jaxx for Mobile.  I've used both and they both pretty good, and keep adding popular coins pretty quickly.

So far the best option to save Bitcoin for long term is using trezor hardware wallet. I heard Jaxx has an exploit which leads to a hacker to hack multiple eth jaxx users.  Search google and news about this.

May be you can use them to trade but not for long term.

To keep your ERC20 compliant altcoin and i will suggest you about use the iedoo wallet, because that was friendly users and really smooth for another support to your coin just like bitcoin, dash and another you can try to use jaxx or coinomi. it seems to be a very good choice to combine the eidoo wallet as your erc20 wallet and another mobile wallet. But eidoo will be supported various currency and decentralized exchange site at the end of this year or Q1 2018.

Jaxx or Coinomi for mobile are probably the two most commonly used.

I tried Jaxx wallet but i left it for the high fees they deduct each transaction

Get a hardware wallet like trezor or ledger, plus myetherwallet, you can have all the ERC20 tokens plus some big alt coins supported. Then the rest just open an account in supported exchange like bittrex or binance, hold them there.

The best wallet I heard of to hold your altcoins is Coinomi but they aren't open source so this poses privacy issues with their code. No one knows what they are doing with your private keys. However they have proven to be reliable and no one has never lost any funds so there track record speaks for what they offer. Jaxx is another one but not even comparable as it has proven privacy issues.

No single wallet covers all the coins unfortunately so need to sue a combination of
wallets mentioned above. Some small positions can be kept on good exchanges too.

myetherwallet is a good option if you want to store your coins, but you are going to have a trezor or a ledger nano to store them if you want to be safe and if you are very insecure with your funds.
anyway, if you want to have a free wallet without having to pay a pennie, then use electrum, you can store some altcoins in there without the need of having a trezor or a ledger nano.
probably myetherwallet is your best option if you are looking to hold erc20 tokens.
