As you can see, I'm a complete newbie; tailless and headless. I have no direction and I seek one. Educate us on the dos and donts of the forum.
How is growth measured here?

Op this your thread would have been posted on the first or second post of the account but this is 14 post and that means you are not totally newbie in cryptocurrency even though you are new in the forum. As examplens your breaking down of politics is not bad and here you are trying to contradict your knowledge. You are good in Politics and economics. Probably you might need the knowledge on Cryptocurrency. And from you posts, you can read and write therefore I recommend you to make some research on Google and read more on Cryptocurrencies and bitcoin. With that you knowledge will also be centered on bitcoin.

Yes according to his post history we can understand that he has knowledge on politics. But then I saw his replay to the bitcoin post. So as I can see he has some sort of knowledge on Cryptocurrency. As Agbe said Google is a best place for free education and also don't forget about youtube. I personally recommended you babypips.com also. There you can get all the basic knowledge from A-Z simply.

First of all,I will like to make all the newbies in this forum to know that the bitcointalk forum is  not a place where ones goes in search of the big bag,it is not also a place where one thinks another person's idea is his own,the forum was designed for people who are interested in Bitcoin, and wants to make money through bitcoin.thefore,I will advice everyone new in this forum to always make sure he or she observes the forum rules and regulations, and shouldn't violate it,if not,you will be automatically kicked out without hesitation and warning.
Every newbie should be more focused on making quality posts and not posts that do not meets the requirements of this community.Forget about merits and think of the quality of posts you can make to attract the minds of people

I think for beginners who want to start joining this forum, the first thing to start with is reading the rules embedded in the information thread, which is a very important first step to take before starting to actively participate in the forum. This will help beginners to understand how forums work and also provide information about what can and cannot be done in these forums. In addition, reading the threads pinned on the information boards can also provide useful information about the topics discussed in the forum. These threads usually contain information on a particular topic that is discussed in depth by more experienced forum members.

By getting used to reading the rules and threads pinned on the information board, beginners can more easily understand the rules in this forum. This can help newbies adapt more easily to forum activities and avoid inappropriate and prohibited actions on forums.
A frequent must read The Beginner Board and Help are specially designed to help beginners get started on the good use of this forum. Reading every post pinned on those boards is essential to understanding how forums work and to get the help needed to get started.

Because the Beginner and Help boards have information that can help beginners better understand how to use the forums and troubleshoot common problems they may encounter. By reading every post on this information board, beginners can avoid fatal mistakes and can get the help they need quickly and effectively. Growth is measured by what you get on this forum and the progress of your own account ranking.

How is growth measured here?

This post is basically asking “how do I get merits”. There is no education you will get that’s better than the pinned threads on this board, I suggest you read more and post less. Also use the search engine, so you don’t create duplicate topics, the forum has been here for over a decade and it’s very likely your questions may already been asked before.
I think it is already answered or there could be a thread with similar topic where the answer for OP's questions could also be used yo answer the other. I saw another newbie rank account asking how to get merits. At least, OP wants to know the Dos and Donts in the forum and I think op will learn grow sooner or later if op always use the search engine. Asking How growth is measured here could also mean op wanted to rank up to be able to join campaigns.

My first advise to everyone coming new to this forum is to take their time in reading the forum's rules and regulations, learn about bitcoin and the forum, be patient, avoid altcoins for a start, take low risk by investing on the amou you can afford to loose, also know that bitcoin is not a ponzi scheme, desist from anything that associates you with making quick money irrespective of the platform and don't use centralized exchanges for storing your bitcoin or crypto.

Op, actually when you visited this board, there was some information already pinned. and just visit it on the Meta board. you will get more information related forum. so if you don't know anything, I think you are too lazy to read first.
every day maybe there are new members, but I don't believe almost every day new members are asking this kind of thing to start on the forum.

Op, strengthen your stance and goals in the forum. it will help you to focus.

I normally would advice newbies to find an area of the forum you particularly enjoy conversing in and focus on your niche, before you spread to other boards, but your post history is full of posts in politics & society and discussions that are not bitcoin related. It makes me wonder if you’re here to discuss bitcoin or something else. Regardless you can still turn out to be a good member of this forum, take the advice that’s been handed to you and read the resources.

One thing I know for certain is this, as long as you do not relent in your effort to remain relevant by posting comments or new topics here, a time would come when you will earn from the labour you put in.
Also, try to make great posts that are Bitcoin or cryptocurrency related more, because it would earn you merits and help you rank up.
Avoid negative trust by all means and once you start taking advantage of the opportunity here, as per performing tasks with rewards, joining campaigns  and staying true to the rules of this forum, and most importantly using reference links where applicable, you would appreciate belonging to this forum.

My advice to beginners is to get used to reading more of the rules that have been pinned on several boards. because every board in this forum is actually almost all of them, there is always a thread specially made and at the very top of the pin. so when you visit any board in this forum, take the time to read some of the pinned threads. because usually it is about the rules for the forum/board itself.

examples of several threads about the rules embedded in the Board Meta.
 - Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?)
- Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ
- Do not post off-topic replies
- FAQ: Everything you need to know about forum 'activity, account ranks and merit

that's one example for the Meta board. and on several other boards there is also the same thing and especially on the Beginner board and this help. if all newbies read every post pinned on every board then I don't think there will be (at least) new users who get lost in the discussion on this forum.

As for what is not allowed and what is allowed, of course you only need to look for the rules that are in this forum or those that have been pinned on every board you post. And in terms of growth, it is measured by how smart you are in making good contributions to this forum, both through brilliant ideas and also through knowledge that you already know.

Because here everyone is required to always learn more about every thing that is needed and is not yet known, so you also need to study outside the forum so that you can provide good ideas through your posts here. Now start reading more things and then study them so you can understand them very well.

The most basic advice from me to you as a newbie is don't be lazy to read. Some of the threads that have been recommended in the comments on this thread can help you find the direction you are looking for.
Newbie should read and learn more than posting, learn all the rules and guidelines that direct you to improve the quality of the posts. To become an established user on forums takes time, you have to be able to get through it patiently until you master some of the rules that cannot be broken.
Good luck, I hope you feel at home in this community.

Dos;
• Follow the rules,
• Do more or reading than writing,
• Join discussions,
• Find what interests you,
• Slowly acquire more knowledge as you get good at the basics,
• Do more reading.

Donts;
• Do not plagiarize,
• Do not spam,
• Do not spread malware.

How is growth measured here?
The forum's metric is activity and merits which gives your rank. Merits being the most important of the two.
Your personal metric which is by far more important is how much you're learning and how close you're getting to your goal of being on the forum.

Don't give more attention to posting. Dedicate your time to reading about Bitcoin and the forum. Your focus now shouldn't be to grow but to gain knowledge. If you have sound information about Bitcoin and the forum, you will naturally grow. However, growth in this forum is a product of merit and activity. You can get merit when you do quality posts that give information, answer a question or solve a problem. Merits are like likes on social media and the more merit you get the higher your membership level.
Activity is determined by your age and consistency in the forum. Your activity grows as you spend more time and make contributions. Just  ba patient and learn.

Welcome to the forum, OP.
read the welcome message and also learn how to search effectively; Last but not least, see the FAQ for everything you need to know about the forum.

The Bitcointalk forum is the best place in the Bitcoin community to learn anything you want to know about Bitcoin and its technology. In the forum, you are under the education of some highly experienced Bitcoiners, miners, and developers, so as long as you have any difficult situation related to Bitcoin, you can use the search icon, and if you don't find your answer, you can create a thread about the topic and you will get more opinions that may be able to help you. Welcome to the forums.

for a start, you should be honest. As I can see from your previous writing, even if you are a newbie, you started giving political analysis and pieces of advice. this post of yours seems to me more like an attempt to collect merit (translation gave a different meaning).
~snip~

Good observation, I also find it strange when someone asks for instructions and has been writing on the forum for a week, mainly on the topic of politics and economics. If you come to a forum that has "bitcointalk" in its name, and you don't show that you have any interest in Bitcoin or altcoins, my only advice would be to ask yourself "maybe I'm in the wrong place?"

Not that I want to discourage the OP, but I just want to say that if I'm interested in football and not basketball, then I won't go to a basketball game, pretty simple.

Just be gentle, polite choose areas that you are good at focus on those boards. Few members has dropped links to the rules of newbies, in your own free time also go through the unofficial btt rules.
Don't plagiarize, don't word spin, take this two warning very serious.

How is growth measured here?

Growth is measured base on your learning approach, contributions, activeness, etc which the reward is Merit. Merit+Activity equal to Rank up.
