I guess most coins from the top 100 will have a 'bright future'. Once cryptocurrencies will be adopted by +500 million people, a rise of every coin will be imminent. Who's patient now will succeed by then. Others, those who want to get rich in a matter of days or weeks, will only cry out loud because they will realize what a wrong move they've done when they sold at such a low price. It's like buying shares of Apple while it was taking the first steps, and waiting until today, when so many dozens or hundreds of millions own their products.
Ethereum is making us rich already. If you are looking for altcoin with big room for growth, You portfolio must have a large percentage ethereum. Bitcoin is another coin that you must have. For the most promising ICO ever, Buy milkcoin. Those are my recommendation for you.
If it's about investing 500$ I think it's not the best way to put it in Ethereum or other already big coins.
Of course there is still a lot of room to grow also for the big ones but maybe if you can just invest that small amount I would
choose a coin which is still cheap and more under the radar (probably undervalued) with a good project that has an ongoing developement with a good team behind it. Something like SONM, ENIGMA, NLC, 1ST etc. etc.

Ethereum and Ripple are the best altcoin for long term and they can give you decent returns if your holding period is 3 to 5 years. Ripple is a banking coin and and this sector growth is phenomenal.
I think Ethereum is an alternative coin that has good prospects for future investments, with current price drop from Eth giving an opportunity to make purchases and investing in it, and I'm optimistic in the next 2 years the price of Eth will increase 100% from price currently.

If i had only $500 on my own wallet then i have only two prospect for new coins which seems really promising that has a strong potential in the near future and these are Utrust and POWR.. 
Many altcoin and token has big potential, but my opinion one of the token that has strong in fundamental is Power Ledger, because this project base on Australia and the CEO and their development also very professional in the field. Then the real product is working already in Australia, New Zealand and India. And other thing they has Staking program, where investor get % return from excess solar power sold from solar farm/wind farm.
I suggest NEO coin or some of new lending coin like REC, HTX...

Agree . Eth is really cheap right now it is the best time to buy a lot because it will pump sooner . Just hold it and be patient to hold because it has a high potential altcoin . Also try the minexcoin it is the best way to invest right now because of the price and also parking rates

I think we missed the boat on the "which alt con will make us rich" question. There are still profits to be made, but not sure we will see the same fortunes built that BTC has created any time soon.
Boy do I wish I held onto the bitcoin I had back in the day. Was only 23-25 BTC but that's worth a nice sum now days. I sold out at $300-325. Guess you can't complain at taking profit, just missed out on much, much more profit. I personally don't see any altcoin knocking off BTC from the top currently. My guess is that there would need to be something created from a well established entity to have an immediate acceptance globally to be bigger than BTC. Right now BTC was first to market, First to adoption, first to acceptance. There is an entire industry (mining hardware) dedicated or predicated on BTC. Until that changes, BTC will be on top.
Don't get me wrong, I think there are a handful of coins that have a better designs/fundamental or more ideal fundamental than BTC for world wide adoption, but BTC is too far ahead currently.
Can you imagine if Amazon, Microsoft, Alibaba, or Google designed a crypto to be used and mined? Do you think that might overtake BTC? They could make a boat load by premining a bit and selling it.

NEO is growing, so I think you'll earn some on it
NEO is currently going down as with almost all the altcoins as of this moment. NEO is one of the much hyped coins. I think it is because of the big number of chinese people who are also crypto investors. Since NEO is chinese, these people will most likely support it more than any others. But with an initial investment of $500, I guess you will not go far with a NEO investment. NEO is already more or less $40. With this price, your $500 will only get some 12 NEO. I suggest that you choose the cheaper ones.
