If we are talking about profitability, which I'm sure OP is, then Bitcoin and Ethereum certainly aren't the best picks.
Plenty of DeFi coins have absolutely smashed the gains seen by BTC/ETH, this doesn't necessarily mean they are 'better,' but they're definitely more profitable.
When it comes to investment, it doesn't matter about which is better, it just matters which one brings in the best return on your investment.
Of course, DeFi coins are on the risker side of the scale, but that risk often pays off in droves. If people want to be truly risk free, they'd just invest in margin lending or something like that to turn a profit on their stablecoins.

If you are looking for coin then there is none better than btcoin.
And if you are looking for some random projects that you want profit from them, then i will recommend for well known defi projects like Aave, Ren, Kyber Network, Loopring, DIA, Curve DAO Token etc. Because defi is doing great at this moment that's why it's good choice to invest on it. You can still make other reseaches with those top altcoins but at the end of the day, what matters the most is the coin that will give you sure profits even if it means holding it for a long time. All good projects made some rise, while shitcoins are staying at same level. This depends on individual perception and differences, some people perceive best coins from those coins which have really appreciatein price, others perceive best coins to be such coins that have achieved a higher level of project development even though it has not reflect in price just yet, however, i will rather stick with those coins who can survive long term of which btc is top on the list.
